  • Northcott House Residential Care and Nursing Home, Gosport
Northcott House was originally constructed in the mid-1950’s to provide care for residents of Gosport as part of God’s Port Housing Society but is now part of the Prime care Group. The home comprises 60 single bedrooms.

There is 1 large lounge and 4 smaller quiet lounges. The attractive communal dining area, with a seaside theme, leads to a large south facing conservatory which is a very bright, pleasant and airy room overlooking the grounds at the front.

Many of the rooms have views of the well-established secure garden containing a water feature and raised beds which create a very pleasant area for residents to enjoy. A gazebo offers shade from the hot sun. There is also a family of ducks that live in the courtyard garden. Several of the residents are avid gardeners and enjoy pottering around in the flower beds.

Activities are person-centred based and have activity staff work 7 days a week

My mum is very happy and well cared for both physically and mentally. The staff are kind, caring and happy. The new manager and deputy has made a positive impact on residents' experience, environment and clearly care for the residents' and staff's wellbeing.

My dad has been at Northcott since early 2024 and we as a family are very pleased with the care and compassion shown to him each day. The care and nursing team engage with my dad with his humour and wit and nothing is too much trouble. His room is kept clean and his needs are met with empathy and understanding.
Thank you to all the team at Northcott.

My Mother was not treated with the respect that she deserved. Some of the staff were brilliant and really helped and really cared, whilst others could not have cared less. Her needs were not met satisfactorily. The management lacked basic compassion, they did not listen to any concerns or worries that
we raised with them. The management was cold and unfeeling. We as a family found some of their behaviour very offensive. All in all it's a care home that we would not recommend. The management team were good at treating the relatives of the residents with contempt.

Dreadful place. Poor communication. The management team are appalling. They have no understanding of treating patients with dementia with any dignity or respect. The standard of care was poor. Management is very good at covering up their errors.

Thank you all for your kindness and care looking after my wife, especially the last weeks and for the care and love you gave my wife whilst she was with you. My wife could not have been looked after better and we really appreciated all the care you gave her. It has been a difficult time for the family
but made much easier knowing she was in the best of hands with everything she needed and that she was happy. That has made such a difference to us. Once again thank you all, we hope you all realise how invaluable you all are and what a difference you make to people's lives by doing what you do.

My friend is always treated with the utmost courtesy and dignity and her care is tailored to her needs and personal likes and dislikes as much as possible. All the staff are very kind and approachable, and any issues raised with senior nursing staff and management are responded to sympathetically and
resolved in a timely manner. I enjoy visiting my friend and am always made very welcome by all the warm and friendly staff, and it is a warmth that permeates all areas of the home.

We have been hugely disappointed by Northcott House. The standard of care we expected and our relative deserved was not provided.
There have been significant inconsistencies in the information given to us and other health professionals as well as prolonged errors with medication.
The Management lacks
courage, compassion and credibility.

My Mum was carefully looked after by Northcott House and she was nursed through a very challenging time. The senior staff/management were very attentive and made themselves available to us whenever we had questions or things to discuss. I cannot praise them highly enough. The new system of logging
care needs on mobile handsets seems to be a very useful innovation so that all care staff know about the needs/concerns of their users. The care staff did their best for Mum and our experience was that great kindness and dignity was shown to Mum at all times. We were delighted that Mum could be looked after by Northcott House in the last days of her life.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.422) out of 10 for Northcott House Residential Care and Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.422 for Northcott House Residential Care and Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (150 Excellents x 5) + (76 Goods x 4) + (23 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 256 Ratings = 4.422
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Northcott House Residential Care and Nursing Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
