Burford House Care Home, the latest luxury addition to Westgate Healthcare, opened its doors in September 2022, offering first-class residential, nursing, palliative and respite care to accommodate 46 people.

Following a complete re-design and re-build, the home features spacious en-suite rooms, luxurious lounges and social dining areas for residents to socialise in, a relaxed café to sit and chat over a cup of tea or coffee and a quieter space, the orangery.

Enhancing the extensive activities available, Burford also boasts a luxury cinema room, hair and nail salon, and its very own Burford Bar, an additional social space for residents to enjoy.

Burford's in-house professional chef creates nutritious multi-national menus, which can be enjoyed in the social dining rooms or in the privacy of one’s bedroom. An opulent private fine dining area on the ground floor is available for hire to enjoy more personal celebrations and events.

Respite Care Services
Short term private respite care provision is available via a pre-booking system. Minimum 2 weeks stay is required to guarantee availability, subject to assessment. Please contact the team to discuss in further detail.

Set in a residential area of Chorleywood, the home has a tranquil sensory garden for residents to enjoy outdoor barbecues and al fresco dining. It also includes a greenhouse where they can grow and nurture their own plants.

Burford House is close to local shops and amenities and residents are not far away from picturesque villages of Little Chalfont and Amersham.

Burford House Care Home is an incredibly compassionate and caring home for people like my husband who was suffering with Lewy body dementia and Alzheimer's. He was a patient here from April 2024 until December 2024 and I knew as soon as I stepped through the doors that it was the perfect place for him.
All of the staff and the management team move heaven and earth to make things as perfect as possible for not only the residents but also the family. The rooms are beautifully clean. Although no one really wants to put their loved ones in a care home, this really is the next best thing to their own home. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I shall be forever indebted to you all for making my husband's last months the best they can be.
Reply from Jay Demetrious, Marketing Executive at Burford House Care HomeThank you for your heartfelt review. We're honoured to have cared for your husband and are grateful for the trust you placed in us. It means so much to know we could make his last months as comfortable as possible. Your kind words are truly appreciated.

From the moment I arrived to Burford House Care Home, I knew it was the right place for my mum to spend her last stage of life. The staff are all so welcoming. You enter and from the minute you enter, there are smiles from the receptionist, the clinical manager and admin staff. The nurses, carers and
absolutely everyone cannot do enough to help you. The rooms are bright and clean. My mum is very happy in her new home and that makes me extremely happy too.

Our friend said: I live here but it is not my home.
Actually, we were a bit shocked - maybe because we are Danish!? We saw a fine, elegant place with a kind staff, but it felt like a hotel.
We felt that our friend was under severe restrictions, - maybe due to risks - but in DK it is forbidden to lock
doors in care homes.
And we were shocked when we heard the price!
Rating of management is not possible for us! That explains the one-star!
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at Burford House Care HomeThank you for sharing your feedback. Our primary focus is always the safety and well-being of our residents, the key-coded entry system is in place solely for the safety of residents living with dementia and other cognitive conditions. Burford House is a nursing home, and residents with full capacity can freely access all areas of the home. Each resident's needs are carefully considered, and we provide a detailed breakdown of fees before admission, ensuring that families can make an informed decision about the services we provide. We strive to ensure our services reflect the value we provide. Ensuring open communication with residents and their families is a priority for us, as we believe it plays a key role in delivering high-quality care. If you have any further questions or would like to discuss the care we provide, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Home Manager. We're always here to help and we welcome you to visit again soon.

The care, compassion and understanding afforded to my husband, our family and friends was outstanding.
We were able to spend some happy final months with my husband relaxed in the knowledge that he was safe and well cared for. Some of the staff here really are earth angels!
Thank you for a painful
but perfect goodbye.

From the first step into Burford House Care Home, you are greeted with a smile at reception. The management and staff in the offices are always pleasant and professional. They will update you with anything they feel you need to know about your loved ones residing in the home. The coffee club area is
always busy with residents with relatives and the lounge provides a quieter setting if needed for private conversations. The care staff, nurses, catering and housekeeping staff are all excellent, stopping to say hello whenever you're seen. They are truly a well-oiled unit of professionals. In my opinion, Burford House stands far above other care facilities in the area and I am grateful to have both my parents' well-being looked after.

The care home is a very special place. The residents are encouraged to feel like a real community and to take part in communal activities wherever it is physically possible. They are also treated as individuals, each with their own personal likes and dislikes, interests and tastes in reading, TV, food,
music, etc. All the staff are caring and committed, and the home itself is stunning.

Burford House Care Home provided us with emergency respite care.
I cannot fault the care, sympathy, personal attention and support we were given.
I would like to give special mention to a member of staff on reception and two other members of staff, in particular. All other staff gave Burford House
a warm and welcoming atmosphere where my father-in-law settled much faster than we thought. Thank you to everyone.

Caring, clean, homely environment. Very welcoming, empathetic staff. My mother received the best end-of-life care in the seven weeks she was at Burford House Care Home. All her needs were met and her care and medication were closely monitored and adjusted to make her as comfortable as possible as the
illness progressed. The caring and support also extended to us, keeping us informed and being compassionate. We could not have wished for better care.

In general terms, we find the service at Burford House Care Home satisfactory. However, issues common to most care homes still need to be addressed, namely:
- Laundry: despite all of my mother's clothing being labelled, we still find missing items and clothes in her wardrobe and drawers that clearly
do not belong to her.
- Food: whilst soup does provide required nutrition, my mother would dearly love to have an occasional change from this, such as pate/toast or prawn cocktail etc.
- Outings: with an annual charge of almost £100k I am unable to understand why, as a group, a shared minibus (between the group care homes) is not considered a viable option. My mother has stated to her friends that she feels "trapped". Whilst Burford has a good selection of public areas, it would be in the interests of your guests' self-esteem to be taken out on a more regular basis. On a more positive note, a couple of local care homes only had the one public room where all guests were dumped for the day.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at Burford House Care HomeAt Westgate Healthcare, we always aim to provide a high standard of care in all of our care homes. We value all feedback and encourage you to raise your concerns with the home manager directly, by meeting with them, telephoning them or writing to them to discuss in detail. We will endeavour to reach out to you so that we can ensure you feel that we have acted appropriately for both you and your mother to make her stay with us a pleasant one. My mother spent 2 weeks at Burford House for respite after a stroke and trauma. We wanted her to have some comfort, kindness and luxury after months in hospital and rehab. Burford House delivered on all levels and we were very pleased with staff, ethos, care and outlook at this establishment. To be
honest, my mother was somewhat confused/disoriented and so may not have fully appreciated this herself - but my siblings and I know that she was safe, well cared for and listened to. We would not hesitate to recommend Burford House.

Burford House Care Home is exceptional on every level. My mother stayed for two weeks respite. We hope to use again. From care to hairdresser, all staff to reception, excellent. From going into reception, there is a warm and friendly atmosphere. My partner was extremely well looked after during his respite care stay. All the staff went out of their way to be helpful and introduced him to other residents. Excellent food, and he appreciated being offered a glass of wine at meal
times making for a relaxed atmosphere. His room and everywhere else was clean and well-kept. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Mum has dementia, her needs are therefore complex and ever-challenging. The team always finds ways to understand Mum's needs. (which is much help as she is mute). The team always treats Mum with kindness and dignity. The home itself is beautifully presented and well-clean. When you walk in there is
always a friendly welcome. I feel I am walking into a degreased environment (which can be the case when visiting an elderly retirement relative). I can highly recommend Burford House.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.882)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.882) out of 10 for Burford House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 47 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.882 for Burford House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (513 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 561 Ratings = 4.882
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Burford House Care Home is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
