Unit smells of urine. Poor staffing levels, only one trained nurse on shift. Bedroom not en-suite, separate toilet only.
Staff that can only speak in broken English. No activities for fee paying residents. No interaction between staff and clients, left in chairs with no motivation.

Clothes changed only when wet. Very poor staffing levels for a unit that has 30 clients, staff overworked.

The care home is doing the best that it can on limited staff, but I felt that some of the communal areas were in need of a deep clean and tidy up. Some of the food (so I have been told) is sometimes tough (meat etc.) or overcooked and dry.

My brother has had Parkinson's disease for close on fifteen years. He is quite happy at River Court but is now in a stage where he needs quite a lot of attention and gets rather confused. The staff look after him well and he enjoys the activities. He must like the food as he has tended to put on weight!

My mother has resided at River Court Residential & Nursing Home for about 8 months. In this time her care has been first class. The staff are always friendly and very efficient. We, as a family are very happy with everything about this home.

When a family finds themselves in need of a nursing home, it is a very emotional time. At the onset, I could not imaging leaving my father in anyone else's long term care. My mother felt exactly the same. Each family will have its own set of needs. River Court have exceeded our expectations. My father being a resident for almost three years. The staff are excellent and have almost become extended family and have provided the "home" that proved necessary for dad, a Parkinson's sufferer since 2002. Thank you to all involved in this care.

My sister has been in River Court Residential & Nursing Home for almost 3 years. We are happy with the service she and myself receive, she is well cared for and wants for nothing apart from wanting to come home (which is impossible). The staff are excellent.

My sister has received excellent care in the past 2½ years. Her every need has been met and when needed medical attention has been called promptly. Whenever this happens we are always informed. When visiting I find the staff friendly and approachable and their interaction with residents is understanding and compassionate. This is very re-assuring for relatives in a unit for those with dementia. They carry out a very difficult task professionally and with great care.

My mum has been a resident at this home for over eight years in that time I have visited at various times and days. I have always found the home to be well staffed clean and my mum, depending on the time of day/evening up and dressed, well fed, wearing glasses and false teeth. As she was not capable of putting them on/in herself. I have to thank the caring staff, who when she recently passed they were very helpful and supportive.

Cecilia Kassanga
Cecilia KassangaJob Title:Home Manager

As Home Manager for River Court Care Home, Cecilia closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

Discussing her approach to working in the care sector, Cecilia said:

“It has been my dream to be part of an environment that allows me to help and support those in need or are vulnerable. It is also imperative in the care sector to be patient, caring and a good listener which are all characteristics that I possess, making care work completely natural for me. Over a decade later and I remain truly overjoyed to be part of a rewarding sector!”

“My HC-One name badge says: ‘A good laughter, heals’, which I chose because I believe it’s important to make each other smile and laugh as you never know what someone is dealing with in private.”

When asked what she enjoys most about being a Home Manager, Cecilia remarked:

“Knowing that I am making a positive difference at every opportunity I get is extremely fulfilling.

Cecilia has also achieved much outside of work, with her proudest achievements being supporting less fortunate children with starting and progressing their education in Africa.

Outside of work, Cecilia enjoys spending quality time with her two children, including as she says: “Either travelling across the country, world or simply down the road!”
