The resident is male, eighty-three years of age, and in his career was a highly respected professional member of the community. He moved to Verulam House on 1/9/2025, suffering from acute Parkinson's and dementia, and his family in Ireland have taken no interest or responsibility for him. I visit him from my home in Cape Town. Verulam House has provided him with a loving, caring home which seems impossible to improve on. The management by Neil is second to none, professional, cheerful, kind, and spills over to a staff who feel valued, and give of their very best. The building is stylish and gracious, with lovely gardens.

My respite stay in Verulam House was from 10th Feb - 27th March. I was very well looked after by the staff who were friendly, helpful and thoughtful. The happy atmosphere throughout the time I was there. Helped me recover well from the impact of an accident and the subsequent surgery, for which I am very grateful.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We're delighted to hear that your stay at Verulam House was a positive and supportive experience. A heartfelt thanks to you all.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a heartfelt review. We are deeply moved by your kind words. It was a privilege for all of us at Verulam House to care for your mum over the past four years, and we are honoured to have been part of her life, especially as she reached her...
After a stay in hospital and despite wishing to return home mum went to Verulam House. Unfortunately she was only there a short time but in that time the care she received was excellent, knowing she was comfortable, warm and well looked after was very reassuring. We are most grateful to all the staff and management. Thank you.

My mum has been given exemply care since she was admitted to Verulam House. The staff are always friendly and address her by name when they enter the room. Neil and his team ensured that mum had a smooth transition from the hospital to Verulum House and she has settled in well, given her condition. Our family can be at ease, knowing the staff at Verulum House are taking good care of her.

Our Dad stayed in Verulam Care Home from April 2021 to October 2025. In the time he was treated with care, compassion, humour and kindness. It become a wonderful second home full to the brim of people who cared.

Thank you for your kind, efficient and effective care of my brother. Verulam House was his happy and peaceful home during the last weeks of his life and you looked after him superbly, helping him through the final stage of his terminal illness with affection, support and expertise. I have told all my local acquaintances what an excellent care home Verulam House is. Thanks also for your helpfulness towards me!
Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. It was a pleasure to care for your brother and support him through the final stage of his terminal illness. Please accept our condolences. I will pass you kind words on to the team.
I shall always be deeply grateful for the care my wife received for the last two years of her life. She was suffering from terminal cancer and had been paralysed from the chest down by a tumour on her spine. Verulam House was able to provide the personal care, medication and in particular hoisting which enabled her to continue a high quality of life. My wife was able to maintain her friendships, interests and even professional work thanks to the flexibility of staff who aided her independence and attended her individual needs. She was able to use her electric wheelchair inside and outside the home and her many friends made warmly welcome. Nursing staff were willing to discuss her medication with her and liaison with the GP was excellent, both when changes were needed and in the all-important palliative care. Help was always prompt from health care assistants too. It was the excellent relationships with staff I remember most fondly, meaning she was always encouraged and never despairi.
Mum was cared for at Verulam House Nursing Home from Feb 2023 until 20 Feb 2025. She was treated with the utmost care and dignity by all the staff there. Everyone is friendly, courteous and professional. The team ran by matron puts everyone at ease and fills residents and relatives with confidence of a caring environment.
Thank you for your lovely kind words. It was a pleasure having your mum with us at Verulam House. I will pass on you kind words to the team.
After a tough battle in hospital following a deterioration to my Grandads health and a battle with Cancer over the past 12 months prior to his hospital admission, my Grandad was informed that the Cancer had returned and he was too frail to receive treatment and he had a few months to live. Despite his wishes to return home, this sadly was not possible. His wishes were then to get out of the hospital to pass away peacefully. Thanks to the management team at Verulam House, we were able to make this possible. Although my Grandad sadly passed not even a week later, he received amazing care and treatment and he passed away as dignified and peacefully as possible and that is down to the care and treatment that he kindly received. Myself and family are most thankful to the team, not only for supporting my Grandad but for the care and support given to us as a family also.
My wife entered the home from a hospice and spent 2.5 weeks there before she died. The home managed her medical needs including a syringe driver. Once the care became 'End-of-life' care the staff could not have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
My husband moved to Verulam House when I was no longer able to cope with his advancing Alzheimer's. I feel he settled well and was at all times well looked after. I visited weekly and was welcomed by the friendly staff. If I raised a concern, I felt it was immediately addressed. The parking area made it convenient for visits.
It was a pleasure to be able to support you and to look after your husband. I will pass on your kind remarks to all the staff, they always appreciate positive feedback from all relatives and visitors.
Sadly both Mum and Dad passed away January/February... we received support and compassion during a very difficult time... nothing was too much trouble both Mum and Dad were looked after with great care and all staff provided support to myself and sister.
Mum and Dad's last year together in the home was a blessing for them to be together... thank you to everyone at Verulam House.
Thank you, it was a pleasure to look after your parents during their time with us. Thank you so much for your kind words which I will pass on to the whole team at Verulam House.
He and I were so grateful for all the care and attention he received. I cannot speak more highly of them. Sadly my brother passed away on the 19th of January.
Thank you for your review. Your brother was a friend to Verulam House for many years. We will miss him.
My mother was a resident at Verulam House for over two years. She was treated with care and kindness by everyone, from the maintenance staff through to Matron, throughout her stay and was very happy there. As a regular visitor, I felt part of the 'Verulam House family' and always welcome. The standard of nursing care provided by both day and night staff was wonderful with a consistently high ratio of staff to residents. Due to their care, Mum was able to stay in her room at Verulam House for her end of life care, with family able to visit at any time. Staff were very kind to me during this time and I was very well supported. I would definitely recommend Verulam House - we could not have hoped for a more caring home for Mum.
My husband's mother had been with them for many years and we knew that my husband would receive the care that she had had. I would recommend this care and nursing home to anyone looking for care for their loved ones. I have nothing but praise for them.
Thank you so much for taking the time to send in a review. We appreciate all feedback and pass all comments on to our team.
My brother and I were happy that our decision to move Mum to Verulam House for the last year of her life was the right one. She was well looked after and comfortable and said activities were available if she chose to take part. The staff were very good at keeping in touch with us and always friendly when we visited. Although the fees were expensive, we would certainly recommend Verulam House to others in a similar situation.
Unfortunately, my father only spent a week in Verulam House. However, the palliative care you gave him was excellent. You were all so kind, caring and above all, gave my father back his dignity. All the staff went that extra mile to ensure my father was comfortable. Time was spent to ensure he could enjoy the tasty food your kitchen prepared. His every need was considered. However, what strikes me the most is the extras given to a man who had only, very recently, become a resident. For example, the deputy matron sat with dad for an hour after her shift one evening, when she knew his time was growing short. She spoke words of great comfort. I am so grateful to you all as I could not easily be with my father as I live 280 miles away. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Over the six years that my mother was in Verulam House Nursing Home, I have found the level of care and support to be very good. Mum seemed very happy to be there and I always felt welcome.
My father commented on the good care and liked the way everyone waved into his room as they passed. (He was bedbound but compos mentis). The home has a lovely, friendly feel, and the staff were fantastic at the end of my father's life.

Neil Copping took over Verulam House as its new home manager in 2025. With nearly 25 years’ experience in the care home sector, Neil is passionate about delivering care that respects dignity, choice and individuality.
Neil started his career in care on the night shift in a dementia care home. This early insight sparked in him a lifelong passion for person-centred care, an approach that puts individual needs, preferences, and well-being at the heart of how care is delivered.
During his long career, Neil has held a series of roles across the care industry and has spent 18 years in management, including a period as an area manager overseeing multiple assisted living sites. He has earned a reputation for driving high standards, embracing innovation and being an inspirational team leader.
Neil is looking to drive positive change at Verulam House and is already overseeing an extensive refurbishment of the home, including the lounge, dining area and all the downstairs rooms. He is focused on enhancing the range of activities provided and is looking to get a minibus for the home to take the residents on more frequent outdoor excursions.Neil Copping, Verulam House care home manager, said:
