From my first contact with the manager when I was looking for a respite placement for my mother-in-law I found responses to be quick and informative. Needs changed quickly and instead of looking for a 2-week respite placement, I was changing to CHC-funded end-of-life care. Iden Manor accommodated this with no difficulty and my mother-in-law moved in. The staff were all very welcoming, extremely caring and very respectful of my mother-in-law's dignity at all times. They made family very welcome and we were able to come and go at any time of the day or night. They offered great support to family members by offering them food and even making up a bed on one occasion for us. I was involved in the care plan and my input was valued and acted on. Whilst our ideal would have been for my mother-in-law to remain at home this was not feasible but we found that Iden Manor provided the very best of care right up until the end. Words do not truly convey our gratitude to all the staff on the Good Shepherd unit, you are amazing people.

The care given to my husband during the last weeks and days of his life was good-humoured, patient, watchful and unfailingly kind. I was in and out of the home three or four days a week so had ample opportunity to observe examples of best practice. I am thankful, too, for the sensitivity shown to him and to me during the final hours of his life. I will never forget the care we both received.

My brother has been resident for 22 months. I visit him regularly and have always received a friendly welcome from staff. Iden Manor always looks and smells clean and fresh and the residents present as well cared for and content. On a one to one basis I am so pleased that my brother is being treated with dignity and kindness. Staff also seem to be well trained in understanding how dementia affects residents, like my brother, responding with extreme kindness when he is confused or anxious.

It is such a relief to see that my brother now receives appropriate care both physically and emotionally. Over the last two years the staff have had the huge challenges of Covid outbreaks as well as cuts in water supply. Through all this, I’ve only ever seen staff staying calm and not panicking. It is a lovely residential home all round.

Mum has been in Iden Manor since July 2021. Her care throughout this time has been excellent. She waxes lyrical about how wonderful everyone is, how the food is superb (she’s gone up 3 dress sizes since moving in!) and how much she loves living there. There are very regular activities including a lot of visiting entertainers. There really is something for everyone. The attention to detail is great, birthdays are always celebrated with cakes, banners etc. Mum's party for her 90th was wonderful.

Overall, I think the care home is very good but am concerned that on a number of occasions, the lounge is left unsupervised which I have mentioned once before.
Being a regular visitor each week, this has become quite noticeable. Although on some occasions, the duty nurse is there, they usually have their head down doing their own work.
It would be good for residents to be offered cut-up, fresh fruit in the afternoon, not necessarily every day, as an alternative to cake. It is not possible for my relative to bite into a piece of fruit which could well be the case for others.
Those who cannot stand up and walk to the cart need to be asked if they would like anything periodically during the day.

Majority of staff are very good and spend some time chatting to some residents.

Reply from Jean Reeves-Yates, General Manager at Iden Manor Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your feedback, it is always with this that we can continue to grow further in ensuring true person-focused interventions. I am sorry you are finding the lounge unsupervised, as you will be aware, we have many lounges, with our high dependency lounge always having at least one...

My aunt has been living at Iden Manor Nursing Home since mid-January 2023. She has settled in brilliantly and loves the setting and the staff. She has really gained confidence since going into Iden and is very content and happy. The staff are always cheerful and helpful and there's a real sense of community and family within the home. Her only complaint is that there's not much in the way of religious worship at Iden, which is very important to my aunt.

Reply from Jean Reeves-Yates, General Manager at Iden Manor Nursing Home

Thank you for the lovely review, so pleased your aunt is happy with us. We can certainly look to improve the availability of worship opportunities for her. Leave this with me.

I have been overwhelmed by the friendly welcome, care and kindness shown to my husband and to me by all members of staff, that is prior to, and since his admission. Iden Manor Nursing Home is not only a wonderful and interesting building but it is also set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings, which together with the caring staff, must be beneficial to patients' well-being and reassuring for friends and relatives. Although residents in The Good Shepherd secure wing for dementia patients, it is good to know that the main building and grounds are available to those residents when accompanied. The atmosphere of Iden Manor can be likened to that of a friendly, informal hotel or home. Even the mammoth problems of lack of water supply were overcome. Well done and thank you.

Dad entered Iden Manor after losing his wife to cancer. He has had Parkinson's Disease for 20 years. The home welcomed him in during a difficult time with Covid raging and despite him being very agitated whilst settling in they treated him very kindly and professionally. They certainly know how to deal with those suffering from Parkinson's and dementia. The manager is excellent.

I was admitted to Iden Manor late March 2020 having been transferred from hospital due to the virus and lack of beds. I spent appropriately 6 months at Iden recovering from being a drinker and a fall due to this which damaged my knees. The nursing staff and all the backroom staff who looked after me couldn’t have been better, first-class all of them. At the end of August, it was time to go home. They all helped to get me off the drink which I so greatly appreciate from them and a route that I will never go down again now I have my life back. A very big thank you from me and my family for all the hard work you put in to save me. Mean that from the bottom of my heart. Many thanks.

My mother has been in Iden Manor since August 2019 and we have nothing but praise for the management and the staff there. Like many elderly people, my mother wasn't keen on going into a care home as she would have preferred to have stayed living independently. However, following two nasty falls and two broken hips, it became clear that there was no other option for her. She has a nice room with ensuite facilities and mixes with the other residents during the day and during a range of laid on activities. She gets three meals a day plus cake and biscuits - together with lots of tea! She has made friends with other residents and feels safe - which of course is very important. The team have kept us informed of all the precautions they have taken relating to Covid-19, including regular testing of residents and staff. The home remains virus-free as I write this. I have no hesitation in recommending Iden Manor to anyone who needs a caring and good home for their elderly loved ones.

Our very dear friend was admitted to Iden Manor Nursing Home for end of life palliative care. We visited every day and during a very sad time both he and we were treated with the utmost sensitivity and kindness. For the brief time he rallied as symptoms were brought under control he was as happy as he possibly could be, frequently praising the quality of the food, the surroundings and the amazing staff; all of whom showed him warmth, respect and thoughtfulness. At the end, he was not alone and was made very comfortable. His passing was peaceful as he would have wanted. We are extremely grateful to all at Iden Manor for the support and warmth shown to us all.

My father spent 6 months at Iden Manor and I was a frequent visitor to the Good Shepherd unit where he lived. In that time I was able to take an objective view of the running of this care/nursing home. The overall management is excellent and I never found any of the staff with other than a very caring and considerate attitude toward the residents. Facilities are good and there are regular activities in which residents are gently encouraged to participate. The home is secure and each of the staff are very attentive in the admission of visitors whilst ensuring doors are firmly locked on their departure. The cleaning is methodical and is to a high standard and I never found any cause for comment, let alone complaint, in any of my walkings through the home or in visits to my father’s room. I have no hesitation in recommending Iden Manor as a Care home offering excellent care and support where residents are treated with a gentle dignity in an atmosphere of calm which the home encompasses.

“I am very excited to be given the opportunity to lead the fabulous team within the magnificent home and grounds of Iden Manor. I was initially drawn to the home, in the role of quality assurance manager by the splendor of the surroundings, the person focused values of the owner, but have since come to truly respect and admire the care, support and affection the team share with the residents and relatives within the home. It is so wonderful to be part of a team who care about our residents, not just for them.

I, have been within the care industry since I was a young 18yr old girl, working as a healthcare worker in a nursing home, and shortly after commencing my mental health nurse training. I have always been passionate that the care and support that I offer is the best it can possibly be, and thus have continued to gain a breadth of experience in many different areas of health and social care, including obtaining MScs in both mental health and social work, and managing health and social care, and continued to also teach within both NHS and private care settings. Supporting people in need is such a privilege and one of the most rewarding jobs, challenging at times yes, but immensely rewarding. I too have travelled the journey with my mother when she was diagnosed with dementia, and I am fully understanding and empathetic as to the emotions, challenges and worries that are associated with having others caring for someone so precious. That is why I am so pleased to be with a team whom I am proud to say can deliver that caring, effective, responsive safe and loving environment we all want.”
