Our father was a resident for end-of-life care from December 12th to December 26th, the date he died. Care was very good from the enquiry to the after-death closer. He did not participate in any activities, so I have not marked the rating.

St Michael's feels small and friendly. There has been a significant improvement in cleanliness, efficiency and communication in recent months. It is a great comfort to know that fully qualified nursing care is on hand - something of a rarity in the area. I am made to feel welcome on visits, and all
my family's interactions with the ladies at reception have been excellent. The managerial staff are now far more approachable. The food is rather dull, but efforts are made to find alternatives where requested. My mother is safe, warm and hugely reassured by knowing that her medical needs are being taken care of.

My 95-year-old mother was transferred to St Michael's from a local hospital for end-of-life care. She was a resident for 12 weeks and was unfortunately too ill to make use of the facilities on offer. Her care was excellent, and the family was very grateful for the sympathetic way we were all treated
at such an emotional time.

Exceptionally caring staff from maintenance through to the manager, friendly, helpful and professional. Lovely, well-kept nursing home. Comfortable rooms, lounging areas and grounds. Overall, I think it is a very good nursing home. The staff are brilliant, polite and always willing to help. I personally have had no problems. However, I can only comment on my wife's behalf that her room is, in my opinion, far too small. I would also like to see the garden in good weather used more
for visiting. I only ever leave after visiting, thinking my wife is being cared for properly.

My sister entered St Michael's nursing home for end-of-life care when the hospital, after a two-week stay, could do no more for her. She didn't know who she was, where she was or why she was there. After a period of isolation for her, I was then able to visit regularly as the Covid security was so good.
Other friends visited with a screen between residents and visitors. The staff were at all times friendly, polite and caring. They couldn't;t have done more for a 95-year-old. Thanks to the care she received, my sister became herself again and strong enough to be determined to go home, which she did, living alone with a fully active life.

The recent party in the garden at St Michael's was excellent. You could see how the residents reacted to the party, and seeing the children from the school was great.
More stimulation and interaction are needed.
The garden and garden room would be used more.

My wife was transferred to St Michael's from the hospital in April of this year. She was suffering from both chronic kidney disease and Alzheimer's Dementia, requiring end-of-life palliative care for the former. The care, treatment and compassion provided by the staff of St Michael's were nothing less
than excellent, and my wife's final months, weeks and days were settled and peaceful. We both found the staff to be very professional, but also approachable and clearly showing tremendous consideration of the resident's needs and wishes.

The staff are very friendly and approachable. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Dealing with the paperwork when Mum was moved to the home was easy and straightforward with the help of the reception team. They had a lovely afternoon with residents and family in the garden, which was enjoyed by everyone.

My father received excellent respectful palliative/end-of-life care from the team at St Michael's. Without exception, all team members from clinical, catering, activities staff, domestic, clerical, maintenance etc, were cheerful, polite, extremely helpful and kind to my father and his family.
The
team have a well-established professional working relationship with external multidisciplinary caregivers; they worked extremely well with the hospice consultant and specialist nurse who visited my father at St Michael's. The dedicated GP service was second to none.

St Michaels staff provided wonderful care for my stepmother last year. Everyone was really kind, caring and supportive to us as a family during a very difficult year for us all. They kept us informed and helped us to visit and contact her whenever and however it was possible. Every member of staff
that we had contact with worked very hard at making us all as happy as possible. Would recommend them to anyone looking for care for a family member. Cannot thank them enough for everything they did.

My brother became a resident of St Michael's Care due to terminal cancer. The treatment he received was just amazing. He was always treated with dignity and the staff became friends to him. They knew exactly what he liked and how he liked to be treated. The nursing care he received was second to none.

Mum was in the home for just over one year and sadly died at the age of 101. In the time she was there I can't talk too highly of the care received it was kindness personified, we were always kept up to date with a well-run home continually innovative. Well done.

Mum's care was exemplary. For the last week she received palliative care, she was clean, comfortable and had the most peaceful death. Her room was lovely and my sister and I were confident and pleased to place Mum in St. Michael's.

My father was treated with the utmost care, compassion and dignity at the end of his life. His illness was far advanced when he went into St Michael's so sadly he was not there long or able to enjoy many activities.
His room was adorned with his paintings and photos and he enjoyed a constant stream
of visiting friends and relatives.
When he deteriorated staff did all they could to keep him as pain-free as possible. He died peacefully and my family is very grateful for the kindness he was shown.

Rema

Rema Sankaran

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2005

We are delighted to welcome Rema Sankaran as our home manager at St Michael’s Care.


Rema joins us with a wealth of experience, having started in the acute sector and worked globally in this field. Having joined St Michael’s in 2005 she quickly became an integral and valued member of the team, being promoted to Clinical Lead responsible for the nursing team. Her experience and knowledge of our home and the residents make her – we feel – the ideal person to lead the team and we are delighted for her. You can be assured of the very highest standards of person-centred care under Rema’s guardianship and we look forward to continuing the many years of success and great care that she has been a part of.

Sharon Parker

Job Title: Accounts Manager Joined: 2009

Sharon, our Office Manager has been a part of the team at St Michael's Care since February 2009.


She is friendly and has a welcoming approach, she is always willing to give advice, not only to the residents/relatives but to the staff too... she is the secret glue to our home!

Dawn Erby-Weare

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2017

Dawn was a qualified Nurse for over 20 years, previously working in the community with bundles of knowledge and experience.


She is our go-to lady when it comes to our online care plans and keeping our staff in check with their training.

Millie Parton

Job Title: Receptionist & Customer Relations Officer Joined: 2011

Millie has been a part of the team at St Michael's Care since June 2011.


Millie started at St Michael's as a Health Care Assistant where she cared for our residents for over 6 years. She then became our Receptionist back in August 2017.


As the years have passed, Millie has worked hard and this time 4 years ago, alongside her Reception role she became our Customer Relations Officer where she looks after all our enquiries, holds viewings for the families of potential new residents and builds relationships with them to ensure a smooth admission into our home.
Millie also keeps our social media and website up to date with St Michaels events & activities, and builds relationships within the local community, alongside organising our open days and events.


Millie is enthusiastic, bubbly and friendly... Often described as an excitable puppy. Should you have any questions you will find her at the reception desk or hidden in the small library lounge on Botany Bay.

Emma

Emma Harris

Job Title: Senior Administrator Joined: 2013

Emma has been a part of the team here at St Michael's for 10 Years.


Emma started at St Michael's as a Senior Health Care Assistant on nights where she cared for our residents for 4 years, she then went on to be our Receptionist for 2 years.


6 years on from joining the team, Emma has progressed to our Senior Administrator, she shares the finance office with Linda and together they make a fab team.


Emma is friendly, chatty and always willing to help others... so, although she is hidden away in her office upstairs, remember the door is always open should you have any financial questions.

Gina

Gina Minter

Job Title: Housekeeper Joined: 2011

Gina has been a member of St Michaels for 12 years.


When she first joined the team she was a Healthcare Assistant, and she cared for our residents for 9 years before changing roles to be our Housekeeper.


Gina takes pride in her work to ensure that our home is cleaned to a professional standard and although her role changed 3 years ago, she still has that caring side, she is bubbly and friendly and engages well with our residents whilst cleaning their rooms and helps in any way she can.

Holly

Holly Stevens

Job Title: Healthcare Assistant Joined: 2022

Holly has only been a part of the team here at St Michael's Care as a Health Care Assistant for 6 months.


Although Holly has not been with us long and did not have previous experience with care work, she has certainly fit right into the role with her caring and compassionate personality.


Holly was keen to become a Health Care Assistant alongside going to University to study Psychology and is due to graduate this year. Once Holly has graduated, she then wishes to further her education by completing her NVQs in Health & Social Care here at St Michael's.


With the training and support from the team here, Holly has fitted in very well.
