Mum had lost mobility. She frequently needed the toilet, some carers showed it was a nuisance for them. The wait for assistance was often 30 minutes or much longer which was distressing for Mum and she was made to feel an inconvenience. She told me ‘just because I’m old they think I have no feelings’. She deteriorated, I often found her confused and nervously grinding her jaw. After 7 months Mum moved to a better care home, she improved dramatically! Within a week she was walking again with a frame and was even able to visit the toilet by herself! Mum was no longer confused or anxious, she regained her dignity and quality of life. I wish she had moved away from Heather Dale sooner.

Emma's impressive journey began with her qualification as a Registered General Nurse in Spain back in 2001, achieving a commendable 2:1. Her decision to relocate to the UK was driven by her participation in a UK and Spanish nursing program, as well as the desire to be closer to her grandmother. Emma expanded her nursing repertoire by becoming a Tropical Nursing nurse, allowing her to contribute her skills globally for nearly eight years.
In 2011, Emma shifted her focus to nursing homes, where she took on various roles, progressing from a nurse to a deputy and eventually a manager. Her dedication to professional growth is evident through her completion of a Master's degree in Advanced Health Care Practice, with a specialised interest and thesis in Palliative Care.
In her leisure time, Emma remains committed to learning, currently pursuing an MSC in Education. Emma's passions extend to the culinary arts, as she enjoys both cooking and baking. As a mother of two children and a dog, she finds joy in embracing both her Spanish and English cultural heritage.
