Overview

The Review Score of 9.7 (maximum of 10) for The Cotswold Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 24 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Cotswold Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.751 for The Cotswold Home is calculated as follows: ( (220 Excellents x 5) + (59 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 285 Ratings = 4.751

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.98 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Cotswold Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 10.2 positive Reviews (51 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 10.2 Target = 0.980

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I was most impressed with the Elizabeth Finn Care Home at Bradwell Grove. The staff were all excellent and very kind and helpful. The home is well run, the accomodation comfortable and there is a nice atmosphere.
The food is good and also the entertainment. The garden is pleasant and well kept.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the home to relations or friends.

Very friendly reception and all numerous staff.
Stayed for a week of "respite" and enjoyed good food and conversation at meals and pleasant view of a green landscape. As a first experience, (although 87 years old), it was entirely positive.
He is determined to do as much as he can for himself but very friendly and accessible staff always there to help.

My experience was very good except for the lack of regular (i.e. daily) showers. Response times to calls for assistance were generally slow.

Catherine Lines, General Manager at The Cotswold Home responded to this review on 09 May 2018:

Thank you for your comments. We have addressed the access to daily showers with improvements made to all of the lower floor bathing areas. Call bells times are checked daily for response times and extended waits are investigated on an individual basis and the extended waits are usually as a result of care staff prioritising with emergency responses or sicker, frailer residents requiring more than one member of staff to deliver safe effective care.

After falling an breaking her pelvis my mother was discharged from hospital into the wonderfully caring, compassionate and supportive environment of The Cotswold Home. Following intensive physiotherapy, she regained her mobility and continued enjoying all the comfort and benefits the home was able to offer until her long and happy life ended just before Christmas.

Having been a volunteer visitor for fourteen years, I know the excellence of this home. In November 2017 I had a fall and infected chest and came to the home for respite on 8th December.
Since then I have had excellent care and attention from all the staff.
The carers are professional but extremely friendly and non-patronising. I have decided to stay long term. Food is delicious, with a wide choice. A happy and very positive home.

Liz has settled quickly and knowing us for so long as a volunteer, has certainly been an advantage.

Care tailored to the individual - excellent relationship with all members of staff. Nothing is too much trouble. Happy, peaceful environment. Staff show an interest/care for the relatives of the resident.

Thank you for your review, I am very appreciative of your comments.

My sister initially came to the home for respite. Her life changed dramatically when she had a urine infection. She then became a resident. For the next two years, she was so well cared for from the nursing staff who looked after her with such kindness, to the other carers who cared for her social life. Everything was so well thought about from daily newspapers, hairdresser and even manicures. The responsibility of getting it right for your nearest is great, but I can honestly say I can only feel grateful to the home for making years special.

Thank you very much for your comments it was a pleasure to look after your sister.

From the initial phone call, I felt relief that someone was there to help. They worked quickly and efficiently to help get Mum out of hospital and into their beautiful home. We knew we were looking at Palliative care for a short period of time but they made Mum's last week a calming and peaceful experience. Everyone was so helpful and understanding. It is just a shame Mum didn't have longer to enjoy her surroundings.

Thank you for your comments, I am glad your mother was able to feel comfortable with us during her end of life.

I was very fortunate and privileged to be able to visit the Cotswold Home for two weeks respite care recently.

I was more than satisfied with the level of care I received, and the beautiful surroundings both inside and out.

Every effort is made to ensure the comfort and safety of their service users.

The Cotswold Home accepted my husband for care at very short notice, he being in hospital, able to leave but no care package in place. I cannot express my admiration for the standard of care and all the staff which was, and are, excellent.
He returned home "100% better" in his words and was very happy there, so much so that he is happily returning for 2 weeks respite care in June which gives me 100% peace of mind. For him to go there was the best decision I have made on his behalf.

Thank you for your positive comments.

The Cotswold Home is an outstanding care and nursing service. I would have no hesitation in making an unreserved recommendation. Staff turnover is non-existent, management are proactive and the atmosphere is calm, peaceful and contented. Anyone who is able to be a resident of the Cotswold Home is immensely privileged!

My mother had limited mobility but was encouraged to participate in many activities, the occasional outing and made friends at the dining table! She appreciated the excellent facilities. Gradually the physical abilities declined until she required full nursing care. This was well-planned and executed with medical input as necessary. Her choice of pureed food and thickened drinks were always nicely presented and given right to the end. She retained her mental faculties and astute perception, enjoying conversations with staff sharing knowledge and life's ups and downs. She was fortunate to have a light sunny room looking into the orchard and country fields beyond - good bird watching over the years. The Cotswold Home became her home and the little oasis of calm for us as a family to visit and spend time, with support from us as well as her.

I feel the home is comfortable but on entry it is more like a hotel - reception area and dining room in particular. My father's room appeared to be smaller than some of the others but maybe that was his choice. I feel that fresh flowers in the public areas should be provided by the home and not the resident's families who are given a very small budget to work with.

Catherine Lines, Manager at The Cotswold Home responded to this review on 13 Feb 2017:

Thank you for this lovely review. We have recently refurbished our reception area to incorporate a lounge area for residents and visitors as this was something they requested. We have been very distinct in our furnishing choice to ensure we use local designs.
We are very fortunate that our Gloucester Committee have always had volunteers who come into the home and assist us with our flowers in the public area for which a budget is supplied. The floral displays are beautiful and the residents love having fresh flowers on their tables at lunch.

I had 10 days respite care and found it a very agreeable time. The staff were most attentive and kind and gave one the feeling of being very safe. The food was very good and very varied. I did find the bed and chair in my room rather uncomfortable but we always like our own beds.
I would recommend the home to anyone as the standard of care is extremely high.

My sister was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer aged 80 and decided she wished to be looked after in a home for her final months. The Cotswold Home has been outstanding in every way. The staff have been particularly caring and sympathetic to her needs, and when the end came they could not have done more to try and make her comfortable.

My cousin was a resident for about ten years. We chose the home together after a long search and decided that this was a place to suit my cousin. It was built for purpose and had pleasant seating areas where residents could get together in small groups for coffee and talk and no large sitting room with TV where all were expected to gather!
Alternatively one could be alone in ones room or join in various group activities. The staff were very friendly, but treated residents and individuals. Later in life there were trained nurses to care for the very disabled. Exceptionally kind and loving care when my cousin died.

My mother came to Cotswold House in 2010. She received excellent and sensitive care having been recently widowed. She thrived in this new and wonderful environment until 2015 when she became less able, her mobility and sight was deteriorating and was needing extra nursing care.
This was organised and sensitively attended to. She was happy with the extra care given and feel very secure. It was explained to her that this was her home and where she would stay until the end. It was a wonderful experience, beautifully administered by all the team of nurses and carers, cleaners, maintenance/gardening team. Bless them all. x

The Cotswold Home is a wonderful home for someone to stay at the end of their life. The d├ęcor, cleanliness, food and facilities are excellent. All the staff are welcoming, caring, approachable and very caring.
Visitors are made most welcome and can visit any time and for as long as they want. Information is readily available and there is always someone to talk to.
There are no negative aspects to this home and I'm so pleased that my mother was able to spend her last weeks there.

Until last autumn my mother was self-sufficient, driving herself to the shops and caring for herself in a close care apartment. When her cancer spread, however, her general health went downhill very fast. I was so grateful to the Cotswold for finding her a room within a week of her requesting one.
In her 2 months there, up to and including her death, she was cared for with sensitivity, respect and compassion. All staff did their utmost to make her time there and mine as her regular visitor, as easy as possible. I only regret that my mother was unable due to her health, to get more benefit from the lovely restaurant and interesting activities on offer.

My mother initially went into The Cotswold Home for 2 weeks respite care. After 3 days she stated that she did not want to go home as she was very comfortable and the care was excellent. Mother spent the next 7 and a half years in the home during which time she celebrated her 100th birthday. I would not hesitate to recommend The Cotswold Home to anyone.

The Cotswold staff are exceptional. Patient, supportive, understanding and positive. One of their biggest assets is they give you time, and detail. They care!
Within 10 days my father is out of his bed for the first time in 3 years. He has experienced a proper bath and also opens his eyes more. I trust the staff and home. Wish my dad could have been there sooner. Thank you for giving him his life back!
