My brother had his first-ever taste of a respite stay anywhere at Hatch Mill recently and really enjoyed himself and felt at home. The staff are very friendly and it was very reassuring to know how well looked after he was.

After my 97-year-old mother fell and broke her leg in October 2021, she was in hospital for three weeks and needed a place to go to for respite care. After a lot of support from Hatch Mill liaisoning with Adult Social Care, a place was secured for her there, and with the necessary OT equipment, she needed.
The staff are very kind and friendly and do all they can to help my mother integrate into the care home activities. We are not sure of my mother's future plans, but at the moment it is her 'Home, from Home'.

Thank you to all who work hands-on, and behind the scenes, we are grateful.

We went to visit Hatch Mill at 17.30 hrs on 20th April and were so impressed, that we contacted the hospital the following morning and my husband moved in on 22nd April. He is now nicely settled in, unfortunately, I have only seen him once, which was on 5th May, when he was very tired and his amplifier was not working. His daughter saw him on Thursday 6th May when his amplifier was working and he could hear everything she said. I look forward to seeing him on Monday 10th May and hope he will be able to hear.

The nurses are very knowledgeable and most helpful. I hope the rules will change soon so I can visit more than once a week. It is good to know that he is being well cared for.

My aunt is so content at Hatch Mill, and the staff seem happy to offer support to the family and loved ones at any time. Even in these restricted times, they keep me updated with all that is going on, and it is good to know she is cared for so well. Thank you to all the wonderful staff.

My Mum has called Abbeyfield 'home' for the past 7 years. Firstly at Wey Valley House and the last 2 years at Hatch Mill. During that time, she has received exemplary care and compassion from the excellent staff and carers. I have always felt that Mum is safe, clean and extremely well looked after. One outstanding aspect of her time at Abbeyfield has been the wide range of activities arranged - these have been, I believe, especially enjoyed during the Covid-19 pandemic. I would recommend Abbeyfield Wey Valley House and Hatch Mill unreservedly.

I transferred my sister to Hatch Mill from a care home in Frimley after being impressed with the outstanding care my mother-in-law received in Hatch Mill. The staff are kind, dedicated and caring and the majority have worked there for many years which speaks volumes. They all do their utmost to meet the needs of all the residents and provide an amazing environment in which to live when the time comes when you can't manage on your own. It needs to be seen to be believed. The management and staff work as one incredible team and the way they have coped with Covid-19 confirms this. All credit to them - they deserve to be applauded.

My mum was at Hatch Mill for nearly a year, and before that at Wey Valley House, the sister home for almost a year.

In that time she was consistently cared for extremely well by a friendly, conscientious and highly professional staff.

Lots of personal touches, and outings and social events (pre-lockdown)

Can’t recommend them highly enough.

Every time I visit Mum, currently the oldest resident in Hatch Mill at age 102, I never cease to be amazed at how beautifully she has been turned out by the Carers. When I look back over photos from previous visits, it’s like a fashion parade and her hair, so beautifully done that even my wife, (thirty years younger - but that’s a secret) is jealous!

And on a practical note - especially important in these times of social distancing - the Carers always go to the trouble of checking her hearing aid batteries are full, a small but vital detail. The Management have also taken special steps to allow us, relatives, to continue visiting safely over the summer by adapting the side terrace and also by providing covered seating to be able to talk to our relatives through a side window of the Sun Room and I understand there are plans under consideration to construct full doorway access to the Sun Room during the winter months with a safety screen. Brilliant. Thank you.

My mother has been a resident in Hatch Mill for 9-months. The nurses and carers were wonderful with my mum. She has high-level needs, of which the staff dealt with amazingly.

My mum could not speak as she had a very bad stroke, but the staff built a great relationship with her getting to know her needs. They were all very patient and loving. I was very happy with my mum being in Hatch Mill.

Finding a care home for someone you love is not an easy experience, but was the expertise and help from the staff at Hatch Mill was and is invaluable. My mother has been a resident now for 18 months and her view often expressed is as follows. "I have a lovely room, I can see the garden, they look after me well here, it is kept clean and I feel safe here".

We cannot praise the staff of Hatch Mill highly enough for the extraordinary care and consideration with which they looked after my mother-in-law over the last nine years, and particularly in her final few weeks. Our family was enormously comforted by the fact that she was treated so well during her long residency by largely the same group of staff from beginning to end, each of them caring and compassionate. During her early years at Hatch Mill, we were impressed by the number of outings she was taken on and the activities organised in the home, and the sense that Hatch Mill is a family in itself for those that live there. We will miss the staff and would not hesitate to recommend Hatch Mill to anyone considering care options for loved ones.

There is a lovely homely atmosphere at Hatch Mill the moment you arrive. The lounges have plenty of light and are spacious - well laid out with comfortable chairs. The en-suite bedroom accommodation is also good.
Management and staff address all their patients by their first names in a caring way and there is a social programme with a monthly schedule of activities. Minibus outings are arranged to places of interest, plus local shopping centres. The hair salon is popular too.
Special occasions like Valentines Day are celebrated providing interest and conversation that also involves visitors.
Last summer the BBQ in the Japanese garden was excellent. Family and visiting carers were also invited, making it a very special day.
The dining room is both practical and very bright and the food is good. I normally stay for lunch so I overhear patients' comments like 'they do their best to please us'.

Each time I depart with peace of mind that Mum is really well cared for and comfortable.

The staff and management have been amazing helping the family feel welcome at Hatch Mill and giving mum the best care possible in a home where she is safe, respected and cared for by staff who are kind, patient and thoughtful, as well as being enthusiastic about the work they do and the residents they care for. The home is well supported by volunteers which assist the team to offer the residents outings throughout the year at no additional cost - unlike most care homes. The management team are outstanding and the staff reflect their high standards. Hatch Mill has a warm and friendly environment where I would be happy to reside should I need care in the future.

I would NOT recommend this home. My grandfather was not well cared for. Although the facilities are nice, the staff are defensive and unsupportive and the food is not nutritious.

We decided to move my grandfather to a different home.

We visited 24 care homes within a 15-mile radius of mum's home, which varied in terms of accommodation, size and cost. We found at Hatch Mill exactly what we were looking for. The staff worked well as a team and offered longevity of service with Abbeyfield/Hatch Mill (something found lacking in most of the other homes visited), excellent on-hand managers and a warm, homely environment. We were immediately impressed with the feel of Hatch Mill as a place to live. We thought to ourselves, "If I needed residential care, this would be a fine place to be", which made it just right for mum. The staff and management show kindness and consideration, are always available for a chat and are good listeners.

Very caring establishment. Does not smell of cabbage or wee. The carers are a remarkable team and always go the extra mile to help. It is people that make a place and notably the carers but the management are excellent too. Welcoming entrance foyer which I think is one of the hallmarks of the establishment. My relative is well looked after and afforded more dignity than I would have thought possible given the challenges of cognitive decline.

My wife has been at Hatch Mill for just over two years. She is very well looked after by all concerned. Everyone is human and mistakes happen, but these are all quickly resolved to everyone's satisfaction. I must also mention that there are very regular staff and residents meetings (separately) Management are always present at both types of meetings and any problems are very quickly resolved. I must also mention the activities during the summer there are weekly trips to places of interest and every day there is also something going on. There is also a stylist who comes in once a week and attends to everyone's hair. Overall I couldn't cope at home and I am extremely pleased that I chose Hatch Mill
