The care and support my mother has received at Tupwood Gate Nursing Home over the last sixteen months is exemplary. Staff are experienced and respectful and adapt their approach to her changing needs. They are professional and welcoming towards visitors/relatives and nothing is too much trouble. I am so pleased my mother is there - it is a great support to me. Thank you.

Excellent and friendly welcome to the home, the care is some of the best I've seen. Personal level, if I was requiring care, I would be happy to be here at Tupwood Gate Nursing Home. All the staff are respectful but ultimately they genuinely care.

The care my grandad received in his last week of life at Tupwood Gate Nursing Home was like no other. He was comfortable, the staff truly cared for him as if he were family and they were welcoming to us as visitors. When he passed he was well looked after and they cared for him with dignity. He was at peace and the staff were incredible to us and comforting in our grief. I cannot recommend Tupwood Gate enough.

My dad was in this amazing care home for only 4 weeks, but the experience for him and myself was 100%. The staff were dedicated and extremely caring. Unfortunately, my dad passed away last Tuesday in the early hours of the morning. The dignity and respect that was shown to my dad, myself and my husband was unbelievable. Thank you all for making my dad's last weeks happy.

I am so grateful to all the staff at Tupwood Gate, who look after all the residents so well, but for me and for my family, we are particularly thankful for the love and care shown to my mother. The organised activities, the care, and indeed the good food, are all helping to make this a positive experience, when it could so easily be difficult. You can feel the friendly atmosphere immediately when you arrive at this lovely house, and being able to sit in the garden is a huge bonus too.

I am writing to tell you of the exceptional care received by my father at Tupwood Gate Nursing Home. He was transferred there for end-of-life care. Every member of staff we encountered was warm and caring, including the night staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we were very impressed with the standard of nursing care there. There seemed to be a good caring ethos to the whole home, led by the deputy manager, in particular. Communication was excellent, both with us and his GP. They made his last few days as comfortable and dignified as possible and we are very grateful to them.

I visited the nursing home to visit my stepmother. They were very patient with helping her - walking with a frame. My stepmother always looks clean and well looked after and appears very happy. Whilst there, I spoke to a member of staff regarding advice concerning funding. She explained very clearly the procedure required to obtain funding via social services. She also suggested moving rooms to one cheaper, to extend the time. Very professional.

Reply from Sue Stepney, Registered Manager/Matron at Tupwood Gate Nursing Home

Thank you for such a wonderful review; we’re delighted to hear such positive feedback about how well your stepmother is being cared for. Tupwood Gate has a range of rooms available to suit our residents and will work hard with families to find flexible solutions in the event that funding does change, so that we can continue to deliver the high calibre of care we are well known for.

I visited over a dozen care homes before selecting Tupwood Gate for my father. As soon as I walked through the front door, I knew I had found the right place for Dad. Dad has been a resident at Tupwood Gate Nursing Home for more than 3 years. He regards Tupwood Gate as his home. The atmosphere is welcoming, relaxed, and peaceful. There is always a warm welcome from the helpful and caring team.
We feel confident that Dad is safe, comfortable and treated with compassion and respect.
The activities team work exceptionally hard to keep residents active, engaged and entertained and are a real asset.
We have found the senior team ready to discuss any aspect of Dads care and wellbeing. They offer information and advice based on extensive experience.
The nursing team have been exceptional throughout the current pandemic; making decisions to keep ahead of the virus; maintaining effective communications and enabling visits when it was safe to do so.

We visited several local care homes and are very satisfied that we chose Tupwood Gate for Dad.

It is quite hard to review some of the facilities. Due to Covid, I have only been inside twice, and I have not seen any of the meals or the room my father is staying in. I can only go by what my father has told me. I know he struggled initially after moving into the home as he didn't want to be in a home, but he has settled down and likes it there.

Thank you for your review of Tupwood Gate. We understand it can be a difficult transition for anyone moving to a nursing home, and we do our best to help everyone feel at home; it is lovely to hear that your father is now settled and happy. Tupwood Gate came highly recommended and having looked around various care homes, it soon became clear why. This is a beautiful old house, a welcoming home, and my mother settled in quickly. The staff are very helpful and caring; there's a good range of activities, and it is impeccably clean. There's a lovely garden to sit out in during the summer. The management and staff have done a tremendous job during the Covid-19 crisis; keeping us informed, being open about the situation and enabling communication with residents as much as possible.

I choose this home for my mum over two years ago now because they acted very professionally and polite when I came to look around and discuss my mum living here.
The very first-day Mum came to this home was very upsetting for her and for me, but the staff made me feel that it was safe to leave Mum there, and they would take care of her whilst she settled in.
To this day, all the staff are very friendly and always find the time to give an update on how Mum is doing; they also ring to say if anything is needed to keep her happy. I sometimes receive photos of activities she has been taking part in, which is great!
The new landscaping of the garden, which is now established, really makes this home a pleasant place to be in during summer for our visits.

This may sound weird, but when coming into this home, it does not smell like an old people home. This helps to reinforce the feeling that it is a "home" like any other family home.

My Mother was placed at Tupwood from Hospital in June 2018. She eventually became a full-time resident in September 2018. We were especially happy about this as it meant she did not have to move elsewhere. She was cared for in the most excellent way by all staff, Matrons, Nurses, Care staff right down to Kitchen, cleaning and maintenance staff. They all were caring and most friendly to residents and visitors alike. The Home was managed beautifully and kept spotless and very inviting, including the garden. Various entertainment and activities were given, inviting friends and families to join in. Mum passed away in June 2019 and we would like to thank everyone for all your good difficult work. Sibusiso (Busi) MudimbuJob Title:Service ManagerJoined: 2024

I'm Busi and I joined Cygnet in 2003 as a care support worker. In the same year I was promoted to a senior care support worker and decided to complete my nurse training as a mental health nurse in Anglia Ruskin University. After completing the qualification, I returned to Old Leigh House to complete a preceptorship. After lots of training and building experience, I became the Registered Service Manager for the same service.

I then held a number of roles outside of the organisation to acquire more skills in nursing, including being a Registered Manager in a Nursing Home for the elderly. I returned to Cygnet in July 2020 as Service Manager at Old Leigh House. In 2024 I took on a new role as a Regional Manager where predominately supported Tupwood Gate Nursing Home, before becoming the Service Manager for Tupwood later that year.

I joined Tupwood Gate in November 2009 as a registered nurse, I was made deputy manager in December 2021. I enjoy providing our residents with the support they need to make their lives as enjoyable and as comfortable as possible with the dignity they deserve.

I enjoy supporting the staff team and take staff welfare very seriously. The thing I like most about Tupwood Gate is the teamwork and inclusivity. Everyone is treated with fairness and respect. We feel empowered by Cygnet to step up when we need to.

Owen Davies
Owen DaviesJob Title:Registered NurseJoined: 2021

have been working at Tupwood Gate Nursing Home since November 2021. For most of my adult life I was employed in manufacturing, I studied engineering in the late 70s and early 80s. During a St. John First Aid course, I was inspired to consider a career change to nursing. I qualified as a nurse in 2014 having studied for a diploma at Surrey University.

Initially, I was employed in the acute sector before moving into adult rehabilitation and elderly frail care. Having been offered a position as a registered nurse at Tupwood Gate, I decided to commence working for Cygnet Health Care. What I like most about working at Tupwood Gate is that I get to know the residents and their families really well, something which has not always been possible in my previous nursing roles.

Working at Tupwood Gate is enjoyable: we have a good team here and the management is supportive of all staff. When I am not being a nurse I enjoy attempting cryptic crosswords, and visiting zoos and nature reserves, I have also been trying to learn Spanish for the last 30 years! I used to volunteer as a steward at Shakespeare’s Globe in London so theatre is another of my pastimes. Fun fact: my favourite animal is the Asian Short - Clawed Otter.
