Reviews

8.9 Clifden House Dementia Care Centre has a Review Score of 8.9 (8.858)

The Review Score of 8.9 (maximum of 10) for Clifden House Dementia Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 12 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Clifden House Dementia Care Centre in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.35 for Clifden House Dementia Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (61 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.35

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.508 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Clifden House Dementia Care Centre is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11.8 positive Reviews (59 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 6 Reviews ÷ 11.8 Target = 0.508

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

When my husband was at Clifden the staff showed great kindness and professional care towards all the residents. It was a very difficult time for me and the staff helped me through it ensuring that I was also looked after. The staff do a very difficult demanding job with care and devotion to the well-being of the residents. Having spent a lot of time at Clifden House and observed the day-to-day running I can honestly say that I have been very impressed by how well the residents are cared for. My husband has now passed on and, although expected and very sad, the staff made this a lot easier for me by all their help and support. Very many thanks to everyone. (I have recommended to a friend who has recently moved her relative to this home.)

Thank you for your kind comments. We work hard to suppport family and friends, alongside our residents, during what can be a difficult time.

I would like to say that the activities co-ordinator was always very encouraging and enthusiastic she seemed to have great communication with the residents. My father-in-law responded very well to her and took part in activities. He particularly enjoyed the singing sessions she was able to get a lot of the residents to partake.

Thank you for your feedback. Activities and socialisation are at the heart of what we provide at Clifden House. Dementia does not mean the end of positive life experiences.

Staff consistently showed great care and sensitivity towards my father.

Thank you for your feedback, and I'm pleased to hear that we were able to positively assist in your father's care.

Since arriving from hospital to Clifden House Dementia Care Centre in May 2015 I almost immediately saw a huge improvement in his health and he became much more relaxed and happy. The nurses and staff all have a lovely relationship with him and I feel they are all doing their best to keep him comfortable for the rest of his days. I cannot speak more highly of all the caring staff who are also warm and friendly towards me.

Very pleased to hear that you saw a positive change. Our main goal is to improve the quality of life at a time when clinical and medical needs may seem to overwhelm everything else.Thank you so much for your feedback.

Activities, food, staff all excellent. Although I visit my mother every day I am always informed if there are any issues when I am not there. After an unfortunate fall in her bedroom, I was immediately told and now she has measures put in place so staff know when she tried to get out of bed during the night, such as regular checks and a special mat by the bed which sounds an alarm in the nurse's station. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home and after 4 years there, I look forward to celebrating mother's 100th birthday.

Looking forward to the 100th birthday celebrations!

Alzheimer's took away my mum's dignity. Clifden House gave it back. She was cared for with respect, compassion and a sense of humour. In her final hours, the kindness of all the staff helped support her and the family. No one would wish to end their days in care but Clifden was a happy place. There were always things going on and the staff to care for residents when the family no longer could. I would have no hesitation in recommending this care home.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our service. I understand that we ask for feedback at a sensitive time, so your thoughts are very important to us, and we value your comments.

My husband is receiving good care at Clifden House. I have seen the staff attend to his personal care with sensitivity while maintaining his dignity. The managers are always willing to address any queries of concerns I may have. I have also observed staff treating other residents kindly and sensitively with regard to their personal needs.

Your feedback is very welcome. Our goal is to work with you to enable you to entrust us with the caring role, so that you may enjoy a full relationship once again with your loved one. Very pleased to have the opportunity to put this into action.

Generally we are reasonably satisfied with mums care. The home does everything possible to entertain and stimulate the patients. However, sometimes there appears to be severe lack of staff with high percentage of casual staff. There appears to be very little staff management, especially of casual workers. The regular staff are good. Personal effects disappear regularly despite protestation. The food is good. We have had cause to complain in the past and generally complaints have been dealt with, although managers are often dismissive. Repeated requests to work mums hands, and finger nails have been ignored. Mum is 95 and has been there for six years. Fees increased from £550 to £800 per week in that time.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us feedback. We'd like to take the opportunity to clarify some of the points you have raised and would, of course, be very happy to meet with you at the home to ensure we're meeting your expectations.
We use the Residential Forum and Care Home Staffing models, as utilised industry wide, to assess our required staffing levels, and are documented as always employing over and above recommended hours for our client group in order to ensure we can deliver the very best of care at all times. We do not employ casual staff at Clifden House. It is not possible to work with us without undergoing a full recruitment and training procedure, including DBS and reference checks and a three month certificated training requirement. If we need to utilise agency staff to cover for sickness and absence, they have also undergone the same recruitment process. We are proud to say that our use of agency staffing accounts for less than 5% of our staffing hours.
Our care team is managed by a team manager and two care seniors on the floor, observing practice and allocating tasks throughout the day and night shifts.
We're glad to hear that issues you have raised have been dealt with and would propose a further meeting at the home to ensure other issues are resolved, as our records show has been achieved in the past.
We were very pleased that your mother moved into a brand new room in our new-build extension following our refurbishment. We are happy to state that our fees range from £750 to £950 per week, dependent upon care needs.

I visit my wife most days and find the staff caring and attentive towards her. The surroundings are bright and clean with ample room for residents to circulate. There appears to be adequate staff on duty to attend to residents needs. There are activities for all who wish to participate.

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us your views. We aim to provide the right care at the right time, all the time, and I hope we can continue to support you in this in the future!

Mum has been in Clifden House since 2013. When she first went in and her condition was less severe she was extremely happy in her surroundings and really content. She was always treated in a friendly manner which added to her happiness. As her condition has deteriorated and she has her off days she is still treated in the same way with compassion and kindness. As her son I am naturally pleased that she is as content as possible and although I don't think she knows who I am now, I still get a smile. Apart from her hair being done regularly another small kindness is her nails being varnished. A nice kindness.

We are very pleased to hear that we have continued to provide personalised care as your mother's condition has developed. It is our goal to continue to meet the needs of our residents and support them throughout the progress of their condition, without having to resort to disorientating nursing or hospital admission. And we're pretty good with the nail varnish!

They treat my husband with both dignity and respect in what is a very demanding job as he does not always co-operate and can be aggressive and agitated, so I cannot fault his care. Myself and my family are always made welcome both management and staff at any time. So my experience overall is excellent.

Thank you so much for your comments and feedback. Our primary duty is towards the care of the resident, but this is so often best achieved alongside families and carers, and by offering them support so that we can work together to really discover the person behind the illness, and allow them to thrive. I hope you feel we have achieved this with you.
