This was the 3rd time that Mum had been to Clifden House for respite care. She was welcomed literally with open arms and a hug which made Mum feel so welcome! Mum is 95 and has dementia but she had a lovely smile on her face with this welcome.
All the staff are so lovely, somehow always having a smile
on their face. They left us to settle Mum in, but then came and took over allowing us to go feeling very confident that Mum would be well looked after. We came to collect her after a week away, and she wasn't sure she wanted to go home! I would recommend Clifden House to anyone!

Staff are always friendly, caring and happy to help in any way they can. Residents are well-presented and regular entertainment is provided. I would have no hesitation recommending Clifton House to others.

My mother has been a resident at Clifden House for 5 years. I visit at least every 2 weeks and now take Holy Communion to 2 other residents as well as mum. The staff are very caring, helpful and kind. The home is always clean and tidy. The residents seem happy and contented considering that they are
in varying stages of dementia.

My friend who has now been a resident at Clifden House for over three years, could not be in a safer or better place. All of the staff are just so caring and aware of my friends needs, her room is spacious and light. The food is good, varied and always available. Also they are very welcoming towards
her dog who still visits regularly.

Dad seems very settled and generally happy at Clifden and we often see him treated with kindness and dignity by the staff.
We may be unusual in that we are keen to understand how he is when we don’t see him and would like more of an update on a more frequent basis. The home is good at exceptions such
as notifying us of falls Etc however.
As far as peripherals are concerned, the occasional maintenance/other issue has had to be raised a few times but does get resolved eventually.

Every week I visit Clifden House where all the staff are so welcoming. I have personally noticed a huge difference in my nan since we moved her to Clifden House in December. She no longer asks when she is going home, and is less tearful, in fact, I don't think I have seen her cry since being with you,
she seems very happy and never mentions how she is going to escape. Just how nice her new flat is!
You should be really proud of all the staff.
One thing I really enjoy is seeing the social media posts so we see a glimpse of the activities you carry out.

My relationship with my sister has been reactivated after forty years of virtual non-communication. As her next of kin, I have tried to visit occasionally with the prime aim of 'someone showing interest' and triggering memories of growing up in Chester. I have found the staff welcoming and remarkably
patient - not an easy job with the demented. I have no complaints about the care she is receiving or the house's keeping in touch.

Dementia is a cruel disease and robbed my father-in-law of the last few years of his life. Clifden House Dementia Care Centre was such a blessing, they always treated my father-in-law with kindness and dignity. He was missing social interaction and could no longer care for himself, Clifden House offered
a safe and caring environment with lots of wonderful staff to talk to him, taking care of him in what always felt like a family environment when we sadly were unable to meet his needs. The staff were always friendly, professional and in the crucial last days of his life supportive towards us.

My husband went to Clifden House Dementia Care Centre for a week's respite in June and he is there again this week. When we visited the home I was struck by how cheerful and welcoming the staff were. The residents seemed happy. The member of staff who showed us around was able to answer/allay all of
my questions and concerns. This has been a heartbreaking decision for me but made much easier by the sympathetic support of the staff and, most importantly for me, the confidence I feel that my husband will be treated with kindness.

My father has been a resident in Clifden House Dementia Care Centre for several months. He was upset and very confused when he arrived and anxious about leaving his home. His transformation is remarkable. He is happy, chatty, smiling and blooming. His physical health has improved and he is significantly
less confused. He arrived somewhat dishevelled and unkempt and now looks smart and well cared for, always wearing fresh clothes and looking clean and ready for the day. The staff are incredibly kind and caring, nothing is too much trouble. His wishes, independence and dignity are always honoured. I would recommend Clifden House to anyone!

My husband - resident since December 2020 - due to Covid restrictions visits are limited to a designated meeting room with protective clothing etc. Sadly unable to access any internal living areas - however, I do have a friend with long-term residence - also another with a family member some time ago
and all have nothing but praise for all aspects of service. I have met many members of staff and all have shown nothing but kindness and my husband appears quite happy in their company and shows no sign of stress or anxiety causing me any concern. I look forward to the days ahead when visiting rules change.

I cannot comment on facilities as I have only seen my mother in a room through a screen. At one point I could touch my mother's hand. During the pandemic, I would ask for updates and they were given very respectfully. The staff are consistent and I know they are kind and caring towards my mother, they
joke with her and she laughs. She is so happy. They have done within the home balls, balloon hand-eye coordination. The staff team are a rock towards us, help us.

The staff make Clifden House Dementia Care Centre a special place. My mum being a long term resident was always cared for with tenderness and compassion, laughter and song.
Activities were enjoyable and inspired. The garden, very lovely.
It's not the most beautiful home and a complex layout but it
is a place my mother felt very safe and very loved.
And most importantly we trusted staff to be part of her loving family.

When my brother entered Clifden House in September 2019 we didn't expect him to last until Christmas 2019. Today 4th October 2020 he died peacefully in his sleep. His son, my daughter and myself will always be truly grateful for the time we were to have with him over the past year. It was totally down
to the wonderful team under the manager that we had this time together.

I cannot thank the whole team at this care home enough - my brother and I agonised about whether to place our Mum in a specialist dementia care home but after a full year at Clifden House she is actually happier than previously in her flat, where she was isolated and lonely.
Our Mum always begged us
to not put her in a home - the truth is she has no idea and loves it - she has a large comfortable room with her own en suite facilities, she’s always clean and dressed well and most of all she’s safe and cared for.
There’s always something going on - it’s busy and they work hard to engage them in activities and discussions - there’s even minibus outings!
Our anxiety of visiting her has gone - the team are wonderful and extremely caring and she’s lost her aggression and is calm and happy.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this well run home and my Brother and I are very grateful for their kind care.

The home is run by a fabulous team, they all work in harmony with each other. The home is a secure unit and not easy to leave unassisted by a carer. Sadly no minibus now so limited excursions out. The entertainment is diverse, with a daily quiz, gardening, trips out to concerts, fishing, bowls and football.
The staff all have a fabulous sense of humour and incredibly friendly. The home is still run professionally and the care for residents is the best I have experienced. Residents are free to enjoy the beautifully landscaped garden. It's a delight!

Care for Dad is a bit hit and miss. I often find him alone in his room. He does like it there but he normally goes there because he needs to go to the loo. He then gets into bed and then goes to the loo and lays in his excrement until it is noticed.
He has sores on his legs because of eczema that
he used to self treat. I have told them to cream more often but now he's in bandages.
He has missing teeth that were replaced whilst he was in the home, they have gone missing again and no one seems to know when. They still haven't been seen to.
He doesn't really like the large style home. I am hoping this will settle and will re-think in the Autumn.
There doesn't seem to be as many staff as they need.

Data protection and our own privacy and dignity policies and procedures mean that I cannot respond directly on this forum to all the issues that you have raised. I know that the manager has been in touch with you regarding his care. I can say that district nurses and other care professionals are in regular contact with your father and his care is closely managed and monitored. He is also mobile and free to move between his rooms and the communal areas of the home.
Regarding staffing, we adhere to a regulated and monitored staffing policy balancing staff numbers with the number and needs of residents. Staffing is set precisely by what we need, legally and practically. This is recorded, regularly assessed and closely monitored by the CQC.

I have worked at Clifden House for nearly 10 years and I find my job very satisfying, knowing that I am contributing to the well being of our residents everyday gives my a strong sense of purpose. It is incredibly rewarding to see positive changes, whether that is a residents settling in and feeling more at home or a team member growing in their role with high support. Of course, there are challenges, but being able to support residents and staff, solve problems and make a real difference makes my role deeply fulfilling.


The environment, my colleagues, our residents, the manager and the owners make me feel like the home, if family to me,all I have learned at Clifden House, being a care assistant and they gave me the opportunity to study and develop myself. I have trained with medication, and completed my NVQ qualifications.

I enjoy working at Clifden House with a great team and getting the feeling that we are all here for and with the same purpose. Every day is different !


I have been working here for nearly 13 years and I have a level 5 qualification.


As a Team Manager I oversee the allocation of staff and the day to day running of the shift, engaging with all the staff and visitors and dealing with several outside organisations including social workers, GP's, District Nurse, Speech & Language, OT's, Families and friends of residents and many more.


I find my job very satisfying knowing I have made a difference to the residents lives.


I enjoy having a positive impact on the residents we care for and their families, to help make their lives at Clifden House more enjoyable and rewarding on a daily basis, I also enjoy listening to stories of their life hearing the ups and downs they have encountered through their lives.

I have been working at Clifden House since mid 2017 and I started as a carer and have worked up to become Team Manager. The thing I like most working at Clifden House is the family atmosphere. Residents, family members and other staff all feel like a family unit, being able to share things and raise concerns knowing something will be done to ensure everyone is better off.


My Current role is Team Manager, this role involves me assisting the house manager with the running of the dad to day needs of the care home. This is usually in the form of running the day shift ensuring each of our residents daily needs are met and our staff are working to the best of their abilities. Other responsibilities tied to my job is ensuring the residents care plans and risk assessments are upon to date and relevant, interacting with other health care professionals, and family and friends of our residents.


The thing I enjoy most about my job is meeting new and interesting people with it either being residents, family members or other staff. Listening to the stories they share and I enjoy being able to push staff to their potential.


Overall I find my job satisfying, being a carer a carer is not always sunshine or rainbows - the most satisfying part of the job is getting a smile or a thank you when assisting one of the residents.


I have a NVQ Level 4 in health and social care (graded distinction) and I regularly undertake my mandatory training courses. I have my train the trainer in manual handling and I am trained in first aid, as well as 18 years experience in the care sector.

I like everything here a Clifden House, the staff, the place, the managements, everything is great and is it like a second family for me.


I really enjoy cooking and to be here with all the lovely people. I enjoy working hard and to be responsible to provide great tasty food.

Job Title: Cleaner

I have been working at Clifden House for 4 years now, and I like the people that work here they are all so nice and easy to get on with. Working within a great team where we all support each other which creates a great atmosphere and a good place to work.


I clean all the communal areas, ensuring they are kept clean and tidy, washing floors and walls etc. I clean the residents rooms to an excellent standard ensuring they are clean and tidy and I replenish toiletry products. I make sure all surfaces an furnishing are clean of stains, including carpets, putting the residents first, their safety is priority.


At times it can be challenging but I enjoy being able to talk to the residents and make them smile and feel happy.

I provide care and support for residents at Clifden House and I ensure a high standard of care is maintained working within a supportive team. I also need to supervise and support other team members.


I enjoy working together in my team to achieve the residents and family members well being. It can be challenging but satisfying at the end of the day. Seeing and hearing the residents responses to my makes my day brighter !


It is for the benefit of humanity where an individual unable to look after themselves, requires support and care, it is very satisfying.


I like working for Clifden House as I have a very supportive team environment, where everyone plays an important role in providing excellent care for our residents. I can learn about residents personalities and about their likes, dislikes and they abilities to daily living. It is about enhancing the quality of life working together by empathy and patience.
