If only it were possible to leave more than a five-star rating for Barchester Lydfords Care Home. I cannot recommend this beautiful care home enough. My adored mum needed respite for the first time ever and at 97 years old this was a daunting task for her family. Lydfords have a new manager who came to our home to meet both Mum and me and spent a considerable amount of time explaining how they would look after Mum and reassuring me that they would take the best care of her. This high level of care continued throughout her stay. By week two, Mum told me she didn't want to go home and the team had renamed Mum because she was always smiling. Every single member of the team is utterly amazing and probably not enough space here to mention everyone by name but thank you all so much, especially one member of staff who was always a secret favourite. We will be returning to Lydfords in November and look forward to seeing you all then.

Hello Helen. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this wonderful review. I will read this to the team tonight at our team meeting. We look forward to seeing you again very soon. Please give our love to your mum.

After three weeks in hospital with cartilage problems, I needed somewhere to regain my strength and mobility before going home and was so pleased with my choice of Barchester Lydfords. The staff in this first-class establishment were professional, very caring and friendly, with nothing being too much trouble, and the comfort of knowing that carers were on hand throughout the night was very reassuring, for someone initially unsteady on their feet.
The chefs took great care in the choice of food, and special requests were always met - especially 'full English' on the last morning! Moreover, I had relatives join me for Sunday lunch, which was a typical roast - perfect.

Thanks, guys and gals, for nursing me back to health so that I could begin to manage at home.

A truly first-class and friendly care home with wonderful staff. Dad stayed at Lydfords for five weeks of respite care following a short hospital stay, and as a family, we couldn't have wished for better. The manager and his team are so attentive, caring and professional. And they do so with a great sense of humour and certainly know how to make their residents feel at home. They also made me and my wife extremely welcome, and Sunday lunch with Dad was first-class. I would highly recommend Lydfords. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Lydfords.

Thank you, Karl, it was a real pleasure looking after your dad; he is a great character and fully engaged in life at Lydfords. He is missed by residents and staff alike. We hope he is doing well back at home and look forward to him coming to visit us soon.

My dad had some respite care here for about 2 weeks after being in hospital. From the moment I phoned to enquire about space I was impressed with them, I was invited in for a look around and instantly knew it was perfect for our needs. All the staff were helpful, polite, warm, caring and friendly. The facilities are amazing, it's just like being in a posh hotel!! I joined dad for lunch one day and the food was excellent. All dads friends that came to visit him were very impressed. We would highly recommend Lydfords to anyone. Thank you, guys.

I stayed at Lydfords after being in hospital for 2 weeks, to regain my strength and mobility so I could return home safely. The place was amazing, such friendly and caring staff, they looked after me so well. The chef was excellent, I needed a low-fat diet and he spoke to me every day and worked out special meals for me, which were amazing. 5-star treatment all round. Would highly recommend.

One complaint - the bedside lighting was totally inadequate for reading. I look forward to returning for a further respite stay.

My husband went into Lydfords for respite care whilst I was in hospital. It's an extremely nice care home. All the staff are friendly and caring nothing is too much trouble. I joined my husband for dinner one evening, they went to so much trouble, the table was beautifully laid and the food was excellent. A very good place.

Mum has been a resident for just under 6 months at Lydfords. Right from the first day, the staff have been wonderfully supportive not only to her but to my sister and me. They made the transformation from home to there so much easier for us all.
The home itself is of a 5* hotel standard and nothing is too much trouble. All the staff are encouraged to interact with
residents and the atmosphere is like one big happy family.

If you are searching for the right place of care for a family member I recommend you take a look and meet everyone and I am quite sure you will want them to become a part of the Lydford family.

My wife was extremely well cared for during her stay at Lydfords. I could not have asked for more. Sadly and unexpectedly she suffered a massive stroke on 22/12/21 and the staff did everything they could, she died later the same day in hospital. Since that time I have been afforded every courtesy by all concerned.

All the staff from the manager onwards were very pleasant and helpful. The room was good and well cleaned. A few faults with the ensuite, no handrails to the shower and lack of shelving or basket. No alarm to the shower and no heating in the ensuite. All was kept spotless by the staff. Food was adequate but not to the standard described in the brochure.

Lydfords had just been refurbished and dad was looking for somewhere to stay whilst we had a break. On the open day, we went for a visit and were so impressed that we booked him in a few days later. It is a 5-star hotel standard and the staff are wonderful. Dad has made new friends and looks forward to a return visit. His visitors were also impressed and are recommending friends and family.

Mum arrived at Lydfords almost a year ago. She found it difficult to settle in at first, but with the help of the staff she is now quite happy there and enjoys joining in with the daily activities. The home has recently been taken over by Barchester and already the changes and improvements are good. It is reassuring for myself and my sister to see Mum well cared for particularly given the current situation with Covid-19 where we have been unable to visit until recently. I would recommend Lydfords.

My mother has been a resident at the home for over two years now, and for a lady who is 98 years old she has her moments but, overall is happy and comfortable.
I consider the care she receives is of a good quality, and I'm happy in the knowledge that all staff will give her the best attention possible. I have, what I believe to be, a mutual respect for everyone involved at the home because I like to be involved as much as possible. Should there be a problem, I know who and when to ask. The response has always been immediate and attentive. I would recommend the home to any friend or relative.

Please bear in mind that I have not been able to visit the home for the past two months due to the coronavirus. However, I receive e-mails, letters, photographs and a "video" link has recently been set up to enable me to see and speak to my mother. A big thank you to everyone at Lydfords.

Review from Colin M (Nephew of Resident) published on 12 May 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My 94-year-old aunt suffering from dementia was a resident for 16 months. She gave the appearance of being comfortable and content, and I have every reason to believe that she was well cared for by all the staff she came into contact with. The atmosphere is clean, homely, relaxed, and inviting, and the staff I had contact with seemed happy. I observed the residents happily engaged in activities enthusiastically organised by the staff. The review of my aunt's care plan with me was carried out in a transparent manner, with the care plan appearing to meet all my aunt's needs. Any changes in my aunt's condition were promptly reported to me by phone the same day. My experience of the management and administration of the home is that it is efficiently run and meets the needs of a relative living at a distance. My impression is that the manager runs a "tight ship", has the respect of her staff, and provides a quality care service. In conclusion, I unhesitatingly recommend this care home.

All the staff are wonderful without exception. My mother-in-law was initially set against staying in the home but after a few weeks, with some very good caring staff, realised she was in the best place. Food is excellent, she is very fussy, but says she enjoys it. We liked the nothing is too much trouble approach from the management and staff even to the extent of fitting shelves, providing a bird feeder in the garden outside of her room and setting up the TV in her room. All in all, we are completely satisfied with her care and safety especially, in this difficult time.

Where do I begin? I can only extol the wonderful care my mother received during her end of life at Lydfords. We chose Lydfords as they gave such wonderful care to my father who was also, unfortunately, end of life 2 years previously. The manager and her team were considerate, compassionate, professional and kind to my mother despite her complex needs. They made her final weeks happy and fulfilled. My brother and I were always made to feel welcome and nothing was ever too much trouble. I would highly recommend this home, thank you.
