Reviews

8.3 Hazelgrove Nursing Home has a Review Score of 8.3 (8.253)

The Review Score of 8.3 (maximum of 10) for Hazelgrove Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Hazelgrove Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.733 for Hazelgrove Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.733

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.52 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hazelgrove Nursing Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25

    2. Target of 7.4 positive Reviews (37 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 7.4 Target = 0.270

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I have been extremely impressed by the care given to my father over the last six months. Dad moved into Hazelgrove in July 2016 and sadly has since passed away from his dementia. I am glad that for the last 6 months of his life he was at Hazelgrove. Every time I visited I found the staff to be extremely caring, kind and supportive- both management and carers. Dad also appeared very contented there. Dad was encouraged to attend therapeutic groups, he was included in all the activities and made to feel welcome and cared for. Ironically, he has received better care at Hazelgrove than he did at a much more expensive and "flashy" looking nursing home in Brighton from which I moved him because they were just leaving him alone in his room all the time. I would not hesitate to recommend Hazelgrove. My father was very content there and I am glad that they looked after him for the last 6 months of his life.

At Hazelgrove, the personable and professional staff create a very warm and friendly atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.
My sister is always very happy on my visits to her. During my last visit she was eating her breakfast and she ate well. She was clean and well dressed and spoke with us in a positive and happy way, laughing and joking. She enjoys outings and recently had a meal at a local garden centre and the staff account was backed up with photos. Staff that saw her treated her respectfully and happily.

My mum has dementia and spent the most of 2015 in hospital. When the time came to choose a care home I was anxious. Being her closest relative and having lived abroad for most of my life, the decision to find a home where mum would be safe and hopefully find some happiness was terrifying.
The first visit to Hazelgrove reassured me that mum would get the best choices possible. Indeed she settled in very quickly and after many years of distress and loneliness she has blossomed. The feeling of good will and motivation from all the nursing staff, carers and management is truly amazing. Mum sings, dances her days away and I am 100% happy. I joke with the staff that I wish to go on the waiting list in 50 years time!!!

My mother has deteriorating mental health and is frail physically. The staff are kind, gentle and respectful. The nursing standard is good and management very hands on. Hazelgrove is usually calm and peaceful, activities are well planned and residents relaxed happy and well cared for. The nursing staff are professional and observant. As a proof nurse myself having managed nursing homes I am very happy with the care that my mother receives. It is an excellent home.

After a disastrous previous care home experience a was a bit sceptical of moving mum into another place but wow was I surprised. This nursing home is lovely, from the fabulous artwork on the walls done by the residents to the wonderfully friendly and professional staff. The management go all out to make sure mum is happy even though she can be a bit cantankerous. I would recommend this place wholeheartedly.

My mother has been at Hazelgrove for over seven months. As a family we have been really happy with the quality of her care. When mum arrived she displayed very aggressive behaviour. The staff have been wonderful with her and she appears very happy and settled. The management went out of their way to accommodate, even the smallest detail. many Thanks.

This is my first visit as I have come with my friend to visit her mother. My first impression is very good. The staff have all been very friendly and also very caring, that is to the patients as well as family members.

My mother has been at Hazelgrove for just over 5 years. I searched for a long time to find somewhere suitable and Hazelgrove fitted the bill. It is not a large residential house converted into a home with all the associated problems of different floors and mobility issues. It is a ground floor purpose built structure in the shape of a square so that mobile residents are unable to get lost.
The home did go through a difficult patch but even then the cutting edge workers were superb
It is now back and in form with a great team who give excellent care to somewhat difficult residents. My mother has just celebrated her 100th birthday there, we were able to have a lovely private celebration and then the team set up a wonderful afternoon event for everyone.
I have recommended it in the past to friends and will continue to do so.

My 93 year old father has vascular dementia and had to be moved from his previous home and has been at Hazelgrove Nursing Home since December 2015. He has received the care and understanding that his condition requires from a professional, caring and highly supportive team of nurses and carers. The management is very efficient and the homely atmosphere and recognition of individual needs and dignity is impressive. Also the support I have received has been second to none.
