I think my brother is in a good place. He 's in a different situation from most residents in Sycamore in that he has a severe physical immobility and absolutely no cognitive issues. He loves to talk with all and anyone, staff, residents, visitors. Happily there are many opportunties to do that in
Sycamore, though i'm sure he could handle more! I and the rest of his family are very happy with his care and welfare and friendly support of Sycamore staff. He is doing well! (Re. food: excellent cakes!)
What I'd like to see is a simple way to take him (or anyone) out of the Home through the gate directly to Bear Road, eg. to go upto the Racecourse, without having to go all round Fitzherbert. That is a long wheelchair drive or push with an extra big climb.

As always I have nothing but praise for the management and all staff at Sycamore Court. The care given to residents is first class and they are treated with dignity and respect. Under the head chef, the food is marvelous with a large range of choices. The building is light, bright and very well maintained
and the residents are encouraged to enjoy a range of activities both collectively and personally in their rooms.

I visited half a dozen care homes before deciding on this one, because: I found the team to be welcoming, sensitive to residents needs, enabling and pragmatic in relation to resident choices.
The Home was clean, with very good facilities and neither too crowded / busy nor too quiet.
Mums transition
to the home from hospital was well managed and helped through the flexibility and thoroughness of the home manager.
Reply from Lisa Blencowe, Home Manager at Sycamore CourtThank you for sharing this, it's really lovely to hear.
We know how much thought goes into choosing the right care home for a loved one, so it means a great deal that Sycamore Court stood out to you. We're extremely pleased that your mum's move from hospital was made as smooth as possible and that the support and flexibility of the team helped during that transition.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience.

I am so pleased my mother has settled so well at Sycamore Court. The staff go above and beyond, they are kind, positive and really take the time to know what makes my mum happy.
Whenever we visit it has a homely, comfortable feel. It is very welcoming, clean and warm. The food is great and my mum eats
more there than she has for years!
My only reservations are the maintenance have not put my mum's pictures up and they could maybe take the residents outside more, but this is nothing compared to the relief I feel to see my mum so well presented, happy and peaceful. I love the place and thank all the staff for the work they do. I am so happy my mum is there. I can't imagine anywhere better. I don't have to worry about her constantly anymore. That is priceless. Thank you to everyone who works there from the bottom of my heart.
Reply from Lisa Blencowe, Home Manager at Sycamore CourtThank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback about Sycamore Court.

We're delighted to hear how well your mum has settled and that the team have taken the time to get to know what makes her happy. Knowing she feels comfortable, well cared for and at home, while giving you peace of mind, means a great deal to us.

Thank you also for your feedback. We always welcome comments and suggestions from our wonderful residents and families, and appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

I have found Sycamore Court to be pleasant surroundings, clean and nicely decorated (even the toilets on the first floor are nice) the staff are always kind and friendly, as far as I experienced. The lady I visit seems peaceful and comfortable and enjoys the activities and the seating areas, where she
can watch people go by. The signing in process is safe and easy to do.

My mother in law is very well cared for. Everybody is very friendly. It's spotlessly clean. My mother in law can be quite hard work but it's no trouble for the staff there. If I've got any questions there is always someone to help me.

Great staff, so helpful. I don't get to visit very often as I live 300+ miles away but when I do visit I am always made very welcome. My brother is largely bed-bound and can be a real challenge, as mentally he is still very active and can be equally vocal. Despite my brother's demanding nature, the
staff continue to smile and assist him in any way they can - they deserve medals!

Mum has been a resident of Sycamore Court for almost 4 years now and whilst I have a moan now and then I have nothing but praise for how the staff look after mum and management deal with any thought or queries I may have.

The staff aways greet you by name they are so friendly and genuinely care with

kindness in dealing with mum's dementia in the best way they can which I know can be difficult sometimes, especially, as she is immobile and can no longer make herself understood.

I visit daily so I see how this care applies to all residents and as a visitor they have supported me fully and always willing to listen to me and answer any questions I may have.

The food is excellent and varied and there are choices.

Activities have improved greatly over the last few years and all are encouraged to join in with sessions twice daily.

I and the family are very happy that mum is living in a very caring environment, thank you.

My dear friend is 94 years old and she has advanced dementia. After a lot of searching we found Sycamore Court and I'm SO pleased we did!
Although she now sleeps for most of the time, she is still cared for with kindness and compassion and is given as much dignity as possible.
Whenever I have visited
I've found evryone to be caring, knowledgeable and efficient and the whole place is always spotless.
Thank you to everyone.

Sycamore Court is first and foremost a safe and comfortable environment, 'a home from home' for those who need that extra support at this stage in their lives.
Whenever I visit, I never fail to be impressed by the overall cleanliness, the caring atmosphere, the friendliness and dedication of the staff.
I know that my friend is safe and cared for, which was not the case prior to moving to Sycamore Court. Thankyou, very re-assuring for me.

At home Mum was lonely, depressed and constantly wishing for death.
Within a few weeks of attending Sycamore Court she was smiling and laughing and thinking about later in the year.she looks forward to the daily activities. The staff are friendly and supportive and help her to feel loved and needed.
They support me as well. I no longer have to juggle all the plates. I know she is safe.

Having moved my elderly friend into the home at short notice, I cannot fault the staff who have all been caring, supportive and helpful. My friend looks so much better and cared for since moving into the home 3 weeks ago. Any issues I have raised are being dealt with promptly and efficiently. The food
is wonderful and we had table service!! I had a super lunch with my friend, will be booking to go again soon! The hairdresser did a wonderful job on my friend's hair and this will be a regular occurrence going forward. My friend's physical and mental health have improved considerably since she moved in and she always appears clean and well cared for when I visit.

I go to visit my brother-in-law annually when I return to the UK. He is getting some of the best treatment I have seen at this facility. The staff are very caring and attentive. My husband has been a resident at Sycamore Court for over a year now. He found it hard to settle at first but the carers and nurses have helped him a lot, and in particular, the activities staff have done their very best to include him whenever he wants to join in. At other times he is happy to watch
what is going on. I am impressed with the detailed records which are kept. It is very reassuring to be able to ask how he is when I visit, and to be given exact information about his day or night. Having been his carer myself for many years it is a great relief to see him being looked after so well now that I am no longer able to cope with his condition.

I have found that Sycamore Court is really willing to listen to the resident and try to meet his/her needs as an individual. They also take time to speak with relatives. I have also found that they have a highly professional approach to personal care and general comfort while maintaining a gentle and
kind manner. My brother has the care he now needs and is not as anxious as before moving to Sycamore Court. I would recommend Sycamore Court to anyone looking for residential care for their loved one.

Very kind and caring staff. All friendly and will answer any questions you may have. Very clean and warm. The meals always look very good. Hot and well presented. The only fault I can find is my friend has no radio in his room, has a TV but it doesn't work. So yesterday he was just sitting alone in
his room. It made me sad. I know he does go upstairs for arts and crafts and looks at TV in main lounge and he always eats all his lunch when I'm there.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.732)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.732) out of 10 for Sycamore Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.832 for Sycamore Court is calculated as follows: ( (153 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 184 Ratings = 4.832
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sycamore Court is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
