My mother moved into Berkeley lodge from hospital needing palliative care. The team at Berkeley Lodge have been so welcoming and kind to my mother and supportive to me and my family. I am comforted to know that my mother is being so well cared for as she approaches the end of life. All the staff always
give you and your loved one their time and nothing seems to be to much to ask. Working in social care myself, I am especially impressed in their personal centred approach, treating everyone as individuals, with dignity and respect.

From first arriving at Berkeley Lodge and meeting Kelly we were very impressed with the standard of the home and realised that the advice about Mums care needs from a Nurse Manager at Mums assessment were accurate. Mum needs to be hoisted for her care needs. All staff are kind & polite and nothing is
too much trouble and their understanding of palliative care is superb & very reassuring for me, in that because of this I can relax & enjoy precious time with my mother. Food is absolutely wonderful and I believe all auxillary staff should be congratulated.
Wonderful place and feel there is nothing to improve!

I normally visit my brother once a week between 9am & 10am. He's normally having breakfast either in his room or in the corridor, cereals, toast & two drinks, 1 hot & 1 cold. There are loads of staff looking after Melvyn, they communicate with Melvyn & he always responds in his way. The home is clean,
the food is good & the staff are excellent

Pleased to see mum was well cared for and happy where she was living. She did not not want to leave there.
Looked in as good health as could be expected given her illnesses.
Staff attentive and clearly looking after the residents.

We looked at various homes and felt Berkeley Lodge had a homely feel with smiling happy staff. They are very helpful and are aware of my wifes needs with eating and drinking and try their best to encourage her.

Having to deal with placing a loved one in care is such a daunting prospect, nothing can prepare you for what lies ahead, to have the care and support of the entire team at Berkeley Lodge has been a total blessing to me, my Mum and wider family.
Todays visit highlighted the difference between Dads
care at Berkeley Lodge compared to the alternative offered by West Sussex.
Not only the cleanliness of Berkeley Lodge, but the genuinely caring nature of everyone from the receptionist, the cleaning staff and nursing team all of whom 'know' my Dad and take a real interest in his wellbeing, you are all amazing - thank you all.
I know my Dad would be horrified to see himself as he is today, and as sad as that is, it's comforting to know his final years will be in the best possible surroundings with a team that truly care. Thank you Berkeley Lodge, you're just wonderful.

My father has been living in Berkeley Lodge for over a year now. During this time Dad has changed, becaming calmer, wanting to be involved in activities and enjoying the food.
When Dad first moved in, he presented a few behaviours which tested the team. But they worked with dad to find solutions that
have allowed Dad to be as he is now. He still challenges the team but they remain calm and supportive, not just to Dad but to both my brother and myself.
They keep us informed at all times and are willing to speak with us, if we are concerned about anything.
A great team led by a good manager
Thank you

all the staff at Berkeley Lodge are so completely involved with Mum's care. I can speak to any member of the team for help and advice. Mum's needs are always met and they ensure that her care is specific to her, either with food, entertainment or personal care. We cannot recommend BL highly enough.
Mum has been here coming up for 2 and a half years and it has changed her and our lives.

My mum has been a resident at Berkeley Lodge for just over 2 years now, she is so happy and settled here it truly does feel like a family home. Mum has always been treated with the upmost dignity, respect and kindness by all the staff, who are all so very friendly, approachable and supportive to myself
and my family as well. It is so reassuring to that know my mum is receiving such wonderful care and support.

My husband has been at Berkeley Lodge (BL) for 14 months now. I with my son and daughter looked at several homes in the Worthing area. Now, after all these months I can truly say we hit the jackpot when we found BL. All the staff without exception are helpful, considerate and respectful. Due to the
nature of the illness my husband has deteriorated and he now spends a lot of time in bed. The carers are thoughtful and kind keeping him safe, comfortable and listened to. It is a difficult and emotional decision having to place a loved one in a residential home, The staff at BL are always on hand to answer any queries/worries I might have. Although our lives have changed because of this dreadful illness I feel reassured knowing that my husband is in environment that really considers the needs of their residents and ensuring they receive the best possible care.

My husband has been a resident in Berkeley Lodge since the beginning of this year and although he has taken a while to settle I have found the staff well equipped to help and deal with his transition. The Home has such a nice warm atmosphere and I feel that I can approach the staff at any time if I
have any worries or queries. The care he is receiving is everything that I would wish for to make his life more comfortable and happy.

Our overall impression is of a very well run and caring nursing home.
We regularly visit however these visits are becoming increasingly short due to our mother's condition.
Our mother is unable to communicate so we do not have a complete picture of her care currently but historically it has been
very good.

My father was a resident at Berkeley Lodge for just over 2 years. My mother and I visitied him regularly and we were privileged to see the kindness and patience of the staff who looked after him. They really took the trouble to get to know him and he was treated with dignity and good humour. Our family
very much appreciate the way he was looked after and the way we were made to feel like part of the family. It was lovely to witness and sometimes join in with the activities organised for the residents. Communication and information sharing was excellent, as was the delcious food and refreshments. I particularly appreciate the thoughtful way the team looked after me during the last few weeks of my father's life. My heartfelt thanks to everyone.

Mum spent almost 2 years in the care of the wonderful staff at Berkeley Lodge. I don't use the word care lightly because I always witnessed exceptionally attentive care whenever I visited my mum. Management were responsive and punctual when contacted and I always felt they had my mum's best interests
at heart and even though she had advanced dementia she was always treated as a human being with her own feelings and opinions. Even when my mum passed away recently they made us feel that she was part of a family and would be genuinely missed and we thank them for that. Thank you to all at Berkeley and I'll be booking in my own space soon :)

My mum and stepfather have been at Berkeley Lodge Nursing Home for almost a year now. They both have very different needs. Mum found it hard to settle down at first but the staff and management have been wonderful. Using different techniques and working with me to help her. All the staff are lovely
and caring. The home is very clean and they both have lovely rooms. They have their own activities staff and Mum has been encouraged to join in. She has enjoyed this much to my surprise. They are very well looked after. I live in France, so have found it difficult, but the staff have always been on hand to help and support me. It is all the little things they do that mean so much. I was lucky to find Berkeley Lodge and even luckier to find a home that would take them both together. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.787)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.787) out of 10 for Berkeley Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.787 for Berkeley Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (203 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 258 Ratings = 4.787
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Berkeley Lodge Nursing Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
