My mum moved to Berkeley Lodge in February when the country was in lockdown and we were in the grip of the pandemic. Not easy and there were challenges. All through the staff have been warm, friendly and caring and much to my surprise after a period of settling in my mum loves it and she is safe and
well looked after. Highly recommend.

My mother was taken into Berkeley Lodge in April 2020 during the first lockdown. Initially, she was quite ill and they took care of her and kept me informed of her progress. It has been a difficult time for my mother as she has had to adjust to being in a care home during the COVID pandemic but the
staff have been very patient with her. Berkeley Lodge have wherever possible allowed me to visit my mother under COVID guidelines and were quick to implement changes in June to allow me to take her out of the home during the day. Any change to my mother's health is reported to me immediately so I have peace of mind that she is getting the best care.

My husband has had wonderful care at Berkeley Lodge. He has PCA and is constantly in fear of falling. However, since being at Berkeley Lodge he appears far more confident and secure. I now have the status of Essential Caregiver, which has greatly enhanced the experience for both of us. The carers and
activities staff go the extra mile in reassuring my husband and he is mostly content and relaxed. Today I was able to help him with his lunch, which looked and smelled delicious and was beautifully presented. He enjoyed every mouthful.

My mum has been so well cared for during the pandemic. She is content, clean, well-fed and stimulated by the activities organised for her. The home has been brilliant at communicating with me through email, phone calls, video calls with mum and with sending me photos of her.

This is a busy, clean and caring home. Phone calls are always returned and we are kept fully informed on our loved one's health and care needs. The staff are friendly and genuinely respectful. My granny’s bedroom is relatively small but it is decorated with her pictures and paintings making it more
like home.

My mum has been a resident at Berkeley Lodge since September 2019. In November 2020, our wonderful, lovely Dad was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer. Berkeley Lodge was our only choice for his end of life care. There are simply no words that can express our family's sincere gratitude to each and
every one of the staff for their compassion, genuine care and support to Dad and our family at such a sad time in our lives. The team here all knew Dad through his visits to see Mum over the past year or so and they honestly treated and cared for him as if he was one of their own family members. We will be forever grateful to them and cannot thank them enough. Dad passed away pain-free, in a caring environment surrounded by people that genuinely cared for him. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever in recommending Berkeley Lodge to anyone. It's filled to the brim with simply wonderful people and we will never be able to thank them enough. Thank you.

When it became evident our Mum needed specialised care for dementia we looked at many places but we were in immediate agreement that Berkeley Lodge stood out above the rest and luckily a bed had just become available. The staff have an obvious vocation for this kind of work which makes them caring and
understanding, the environment is clean, nicely decorated and welcoming, the management seems organised and dedicated and Mum enjoys the activities that are on offer nearly every day. At home Mum was confused and sad, she still has her moments but we noticed a huge improvement in her mood on entering Berkeley Lodge and now, on the whole, she is chatty and smiley which is the best thing possible for a daughter to see and I can't thank the staff enough for all their help. I would not have any reservations in recommending this home to the family of to any potential resident.

This is an amazing care home. We looked at several for Mum but Berkeley Lodge had a very well designed environment and such lovely caring staff. The activity team are especially good; arranging a variety of activities and outings pre-covid and by facilitating video calls during covid to keep family
and friends connected when they can’t visit. I have found it to be well run and their covid policies strike a careful balance between safety and social need. My experience of all staff groups including the nursing/caring, reception and management team to be friendly, helpful, approachable and professional. I am sure that the onsite development will provide additional benefit in time. I feel very lucky that Mum is in such a great place. Thank you to all of you.

My wife passed away on the 6th February. She finally lost the battle against Alzheimers. She had been a resident at the home, and for us it was a home from home, for just under two years.
I can not praise the staff enough for the care they give to each and every one of the residents, and I've attended
every day at some time or other. From the laundry team up to the manager, every person is worth there weight in gold.
In my wife's last days the staff were so caring they told me I could stay in the room with her and that's what I did until the very end. Even the senior nurse told me to call her any time and she would come back in and she did in the early hours of the morning.
If you're reading this and deciding on a nursing home, believe me, this is the one. And when you visit, don't just walk past the staff or the residents, talk to them and become part of the family as that's what it is. They are an extension of your family and looking after your loved one until the end.
Thank you.

Berkeley Lodge is a very clean and welcoming home. All the staff are friendly, taking the time to say hello as you walk through the home and they treat all their patients as individuals and get to know them. I can't thank the nursing staff enough for all they do for my mother and the support they have
given me at difficult times always shave the time to listen.

My sister has been in Berkley Lodge for 6 weeks and it is now her home, she is relaxed and settled which is great after a turbulent few months. Her room is large, homely and spankingly clean. Most importantly all the staff from cleaning staff to SRN's are kind friendly and wonderful with the residents.

Dad's medical needs are always met. He looks in good health. He is happy, his room is kept spotlessly clean. The staff understand his individual needs and personality and are always happy to cater for his needs. Berkeley Lodge has a really homely feel and there is a real team spirit.

My impression is that everyone is very kind and patient with my husband. Cannot comment on facilities or activities as he will not leave his room.
I have said good value. It is expensive but I imagine such a place costs a lot to run and pay staff adequately.

I have found the level of nursing care delivered to my mother to be of a very high standard. The staff and management continue to provide the care and comfort and social interaction to ensure that my mother is comfortable and happy in her environment.

I came to view Berkeley Lodge early March 2018, I met with the manager, who immediately put me at ease.
The home is extremely clean and all staff are welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
The meals are cooked on premises and are varied and tasty with several choices each day.
My father
has become accustomed to living here in his very tastefully furnished and spacious room, he enjoys the banter he has with staff.
I am very pleased with all aspects of care given to my father, who can be quite challenging at times.
There are plenty of activities for him if he wishes to join in.
I would not hesitate to recommend Berkeley Lodge to anyone.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.787) out of 10 for Berkeley Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.787 for Berkeley Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (203 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 258 Ratings = 4.787
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Berkeley Lodge Nursing Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
