The standard of care was exceptional. The team didn't just look after his physical needs; they treated him with immense dignity, respect, and genuine affection. What stood out most was the peace of mind they gave our family. Every time we visited, the atmosphere was warm, and communication from the staff was excellent. Knowing he was safe, comfortable, and in such compassionate hands was a massive comfort.
We will always be incredibly grateful to everyone at Donnington House for making his final chapter as peaceful as possible. We highly recommend them.
Thankyou so much for your lovely review, we were all very fond of your father he was a real gentlemen with a lovely family supporting him aswell, i am so happy that we had the pleasure of making your father comfortable and that he felt welcomed in the warmest way possible.
I am still practising as a registered nurse and have had the opportunity to experience many and various care settings. I have had such a wonderful experience of Donnington House. As soon as you arrive, you are made to feel so welcome by every member of staff. The atmosphere is so lovely and warm and all residents and staff are happy and positive. Residents treated with such care and kindness, not one member of staff is anything other than exceptional. Lovely place!
Thankyou for your lovely review, we are very pleased that you are happy with your experience at Donnington House.
We looked at a number of local residential/nursing homes, but Donnington House was the first to actually feel homely. I think this is due to the staff who are all genuinely warm and friendly and interact well together as a team providing excellent professional care, with the happiness and safety of the residents their priority. The interior is bright and well-aired with all the necessary facilities and there are optional friendly activities. The garden feels bigger than it is and is thoughtfully planned for easy accessibility with lots of variety to look at, and shady seating areas to admire the peace and quiet under the trees or patio awning. You are not aware of the main road. Parking has not been a problem, in addition to the lay-by outside there is also neighbouring on-road parking, as well as a bus stop outside. All the food is home-cooked from scratch with fresh produce. My father feels safe and very comfortable here, we absolutely couldn't recommend it more highly.
Thankyou for the lovely review we are very proud of Donnington House Staff, Settings and Garden and strive to meet everyone's needs
The staff of Donnington House were very kind and looked after my mum during her four-week stay. The whole building was very clean and light and there was a very happy feeling throughout the home. My mother would be very happy to go back for future respite care. Also they were very much on the ball when my mother became ill and needed to go to the hospital. All in all a great, warm and friendly place.
Thankyou for your review, we do hope your mum has fully recovered now.
Your support and kindness is very much appreciated.
We are glad that you were happy with with your Auntie's 90th celebrations at Donnington House, we do try our best and the residents and family are always welcome to use the Linkins Lounge for a bit of privacy
We recently celebrated our lovely Ida's 90th Birthday. The team were so helpful in helping us to secure a room at the home, allowing us to decorate and helping wherever possible. They helped make this special milestone wonderful for Ida and we thank the staff for making it possible!
We are glad that you were happy with with your Nan's 90th celebrations at Donnington House, we do try our best and the residents and family are always welcome to use the Linkins Lounge for a bit of privacy
My godmother recently celebrated her 90th birthday at Donnington House. She has thrived in her time there and I cannot speak too highly of the staff throughout the home. I would thoroughly recommend too anyone that the care and facilities are first class.
Thankyou for your lovely review, we are glad that your godmother has thrived since being at Donnington House
I was looked after well during my 2 week respite stay. All the staff were very caring and helpful. The food was delicious and help was given if required. It's nice to have the choice to join others in the dining room, or eat in your room. There is a daily calendar with social activities which was fun.
We are glad you enjoyed your respite stay with us and are on the road to recovery and that Donnington House and the staff made your stay welcoming and enjoyable.
My father is a resident of Donnington House as he is unable to live alone any more and has high risk of falls. He has a large room with an ensuite bathroom. Since he has been there he is looking much better and has put on weight as he was very underweight. The staff are all lovely and have helped to settle him in and made sure that he has all the comforts he wanted from home. There are regular activities but the residents can choose whether to participate or not. The food is all freshly prepared on site and the chefs are excellent. There is a communal dining room or the residents can eat in their rooms if they prefer. There is a very pretty and accessible garden to use when the weather is good. Visitors are encouraged.
We are happy that your father has settled in at Donnington House and that you are happy with the care that he receives
My mother is very happy considering the major upheaval in her life. They are exceptional in all aspects of their care and the food is very good too, plenty of variety.
There are all different activities every day if you wish to participate. Overall we are all very satisfied.
Thankyou so much with your lovely review, we are happy that you mum has settled in and that you are happy with the care that she is receiving, we do love the gardens here and encourage residents to go out as much as they like to appreciate the lovely surroundings
My Uncle has been living at Donnington House for 3 years now. He tells me that he is content and happy. It seems to me that the staff (many of whom are the same people who welcomed him to Donnington 3 years ago) genuinely go out of their way to do anything that makes my Uncle's life better. I always receive a warm welcome whenever I visit. It is a journey of over 100 miles for me to visit my Uncle but I would not think of moving him anywhere else.
Thankyou for your very lovely review, we are glad you are happy with your uncle being a resident at Donnington House and that you always receive a warm welcome
My Mum has been a resident for over three years now and it has been a huge relief to me to know that Mum is being supported well and that her needs are being met. I have never had a bad experience while visiting over the years, staff are patient and respectful at all times with the residents. There are activities every day, the lounge is vibrant and always has a small group of residents socialising, but everything is optional. The facilities are superb, with adjustable beds, the lounge and the gardens are beautifully maintained. There are always plenty of support workers delivering care, they are good-humoured and respectful, keep the rooms clean and the residents happy. They have time to chat to Mum over a cup of tea which she appreciates hugely. She has never had any complaints during her time there. The medical support is also fantastic and phone calls and emails are always answered promptly.
On being met at reception, a manager gave the background of Donnington House, after which the tour took to view the kitchen, the lounge where the activities scheduled could be seen. Then, to view two available rooms. Whilst walking through the home, all of the staff smiled and said hello, and all of the residents we met were happy. The room was quiet with pleasant outlooks. When my wife took up resident, the care was delivered with dignity and good grace.
Many thanks for your lovely review, we pride ourselves in welcoming everybody into the home in a warm and friendly manner, we are very lucky to have a beautiful garden all around the home for the residents and family and friends to enjoy.
Overall care was very good, and the staff very friendly. This is the first time in this care home for respite so it took a bit of learning on my mum's (and my part), but everyone made sure we knew what was going on, and my mother felt safe. The Roast Lamb and the Pear Dessert were very much appreciated! Many thanks
Thank you for your review. We are glad your mum's time with us was a good experience and very happy that your mum was able to get home as she wanted.
My mum came to Donnington house in November 24. From the start, my mum has had outstanding care. I can see that my mum is clearly well cared for. She's the happiest she's been for a long time. I would like to say a special thank you to her Senior Lead. She has spent a lot of one-on-one time with mum, getting her mobility back. Mum can now walk with assistance. I never thought she'd be able to do this. Her Senior Lead and the staff are a credit to Donnington House. The variety of entertainment, food and care make this home feel like home.
We are so happy with the care your mum has received, and we have seen a great improvement in your mum's mobility. we are really happy that your mum is happy at Donnington House.
The good weather of the last week has also allowed me to take my wife out to the garden, and enjoy the sunshine. We are looking forward to seeing the garden(s) in full bloom, in the coming months. Anyone looking for a nursing home for a loved one, I can not recommend Donnington house more highly enough!
We are so happy that you feel that you made the right choice for your wife, thankyou for your honest review
My granny joined Donnington House in December 2024, she had her first stroke in 2020, which affected her speech then a few more after that affected her leg mobility. Donnington House has pushed her and been so patient, my granny wouldn't be doing half the stuff she does now if it wasn't for the loving, kind staff. I haven't seen my granny this happy in a long time which is all thanks to Donnington house, they have given her a better quality of life and something to wake up to! Not just that but the activities they do really make a difference and gives our loved ones something to talk about and genuinely smile (my granny loves the musician who comes in)
Thank you very much for taking the time to submit a review. It is so rewarding to hear that we are supporting our residents and their families and making a positive difference.
My aunt has been resident at Donnington House for some months and we have been very impressed with the care she has been given. My mum visits regularly and she tells me that the staff are all very friendly and helpful. My aunt's physical health has improved since she became a resident at Donnington House which gives us all peace of mind that she is very well cared for. There are lots of things going on in the home and I believe that she particularly enjoys the musical sessions and the visiting animals. We couldn't be more pleased.
Thank you for your lovely review and we are pleased that your aunt has received the care that you had hoped for, we have a varied activity programme that tries to meets all residents likes and interests, and we are pleased that your aunt enjoys the activities we offer.

My family and I viewed five other care homes in the area and we were so impressed with the professionalism, care and enthusiasm of all the staff at Donnington House that truly convinced us to enrol our very loved mother into this care home. She has resided there for about a year now and we all agree there is nowhere else we would like her to be. So a big thank you to all the staff and management for the service you provide, as my mother can be a handful!
I am so pleased that you are happy with the choice you made for your mum

Meet the Team (3)

Hello, my name is Sophie, and I am delighted to be the Registered Manager at Donnington House.
After having my son at the age of 40 I decided that I want to work for a business with a philosophy and standards that I truly believed in, and one that genuinely made a difference to improve the quality of life for people in my community. Donnington House, which is a non-profit charity organisation that truly puts care of the elderly at the heart of everything it delivers, was a perfect fit.Donnington House provides its residents with a relaxed, safe, and homely environment in which their care, well-being and comfort are of paramount importance.
The staffing team strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality, and privacy of all the residents within a warm and caring atmosphere and are sensitive to the resident’s changing needs.Such needs may be medical, cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional, and social. Residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their plan in care in which the involvement of family and friends is always valued.
I previously worked in the very profit and commercial led sector of retail for over 15 years where I held the role of Head of Retail for a market leading brand. I started working at Donnington House as the Business Manager and simply fell in love with the culture of the home. I retrained, immersed myself in the care industry and was interviewed by the Care Quality Commission and the Board of Trustees at Donnington House which led to my promotion as Registered Manager in 2022.I aim to ensure that Donnington House is a home from home for our resident’s.
All staff within the Home are appropriately qualified to deliver the highest standards of care. A continuous training programme is implemented to ensure that standards are maintained in line with the developments in care practices and laid down in legislation, regulations, and the Care Quality Commission guidelines.

I feel that I am approachable for the staff to come and see me if they encounter any problems. I love seeing the residents taking part in various activities that the home offers and just having a general chat with them and listening to them talk about there lives.

I have worked within the care sector for 33 years in various settings including Bognor War Memorial Hospital and as a Field Care Supervisor in the community. I joined The Donnington House team in 2007 which provides a high standard of support and care for up to 28 elderly residents.
Donnington House has supported me with excellent training opportunities, achieving a Level 3 in Health and Social Care in October 2013. I then became a Moving and Handling advisor providing in-house training to all staff. In 2018 I was supported by the nursing team to achieve a Level 4 Diploma in Adult Social Care and became qualified to support the nursing team with administering medication.
In January 2022 I was promoted under a new manager to Senior Care Practitioner. I now lead and support the care team through an extensive training programme which includes the 15 standards of care as set out in The Care Certificate, providing the knowledge and understanding to be able to promote and provide high quality, individualised person-centred care in safe comfortable surroundings.
As part of my job role, I lead the care team to ensure every resident has their wishes, needs and preferences met in a dignified and respectful way, following all core values of Donnington House.
I have always enjoyed my job role at Donnington House and always feel well supported. I believe the care and support we provide are more personalised as it is an independent, not-for-profit charity-run home where people matter.
