The relationship between the staff also appeared excellent making it feel like a happy place. I have only given the rooms four stars but I know that if a permanent resident, they can be made more personal.
Thank you for your kind review, we are glad you were happy with the care your mother received and hope that we helped her recover ready to go back home.
Donnington House is perfect for our family member. The staff are caring and attentive, the food is tasty and varied, we have eaten there with our relative on several occasions. The open visiting policy is very helpful for us as we don’t live in the local area. The building itself may be a little worn and tired in places, but this in no way detracts from the care received. To be honest, we and our family member prefer the homely environment to a hospital-like modern facility. The activities and entertainment have been a welcome distraction at times, while our family member adjusts to residential living. The home is always fresh, warm and the gardens are lovely. We consider ourselves lucky to have secured a place at Donnington House. In the grand scheme of things, there is really nothing that warrants criticism, nursing care is a hard job and we thank everyone for looking after our cousin.
Thank you for your lovely, honest review, we are glad that your family member is receiving great care at Donnington House.
My father has been a resident at Donnington House for nearly three years. Throughout this time he has been treated with respect, dignity and total care by a professional team which has resulted in my father feeling safe and secure which is of paramount importance to me.
Thank you for your lovely honest review. We are so happy to hear that you are happy with the care that your family member receives at Donnington House.
My mum has been a resident at Donnington House for four years. Her needs have increased since admission and she is now bed bound and highly dependent. Throughout her stay, her care has been of the highest standard and I feel fortunate that we found Donnington House when Mum needed care. I have never had any cause for complaint or concern. The staff unfailingly do an excellent job.
Thank you for your review, we are glad to hear that you are happy with the care that your mum is receiving at Donnington House.
My impression is that residents are well cared for and happy. They tell me about the activities they enjoy and how good the meals are. The staff are friendly and approachable.
Thank you for your lovely honest review we know that some of our residents like taking part in Holy Communion and Spiritual Guidance and we would welcome you at all times.
My mother's experience at Donnington House has been simply outstanding. We moved her in May 2020 and the improvement in her mental and physical health was transformative. In the last three years, she has received outstandingly good care. Kind attentive and 108% professional. All the Donnington House staff deserve the Order of the British Empire. the food is Michelin star quality. Above all, as relatives, we are welcomed and supported. Donnington House is a gem. We feel blessed to have our mother there. Thank you!
Thank you for your amazing review, we strive to make all residents and their families feel at home and part of Donnington House, we are so happy to hear that Donnington House has had a positive impact on your mother's mental and physical health. And I can agree the food is amazing and so tasty.
My friend became a resident almost two years ago. I have visited her once every week on different days and at different times. I've always found the staff friendly and helpful and very kind to my friend. Even when she went into hospital, two of the staff visited her. Even with Covid to contend with, they did their best. The residents' special occasions are marked with love.
Thank you for your kind review, we do hope everyone who is visiting gets a warm welcome at Donnington House.
I have been attending Donnington House for over a year now with my dog as part of the Pets as Therapy programme. I have found the home to be a very welcoming environment and all the staff I have met are very caring and friendly. The activity organiser has made us particularly welcome and my dog adores her as she always has treats in her pocket. The residents all seem happy and comfortable. The whole place has a comfortable and homely feel. I would not hesitate to recommend Donnington House.
Thank you Sarah, the residents, staff and visitors look forward to the dog and yourself visiting and it always brings a smile to everyone's face when they see your dog.
My mother and father were both residents in Donnington House, my mother for over 11 years before she passed away in January 2023. Throughout their time in the home, they were both provided with loving care, respect and encouragement which went well beyond what could reasonably be expected. The commitment of the staff during the Covid crisis, especially in its early stages, probably saved many lives. There is a special atmosphere at Donnington House, created by the brilliant staff, many of whom have worked there for a number of years and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anybody.
It was an absolute pleasure to care for your mum and dad. It was also lovely building a relationship with you and your wife, all at Donnington House miss you all very much and wish you all the best
Donnington House Care Home - we cannot thank and praise you all enough. From the phone call to say you would be able to accommodate Mum, to your unfailing care, support and all round wonderfulness to Mum, we are so truly grateful to you all. Every single member of staff truly did their best for her and supported me and my family wholeheartedly through her admission to her passing, and we honestly could not have asked for any more from any of you. Communication was first class, and everyone was always cheerful, kind, honest, caring and supportive. I would highly recommend this amazing home and their team of wonderful people.
Thank you so much for your kind words, it means so much to us all.
The staff at Donningot House have been amazing during the pandemic and have taken every precaution to keep residents safe. They have remained cheerful and caring and shown support to their residents. Their care of my mother at the end of her life made all our lives better, and she was comfortable and treated with care to the end.
Dear Debra, thank you so much for your wonderful review. Mum is greatly missed.
My father went into Donnington House from the hospital for a month until he died in August. The staff at the home were fantastic, and nothing was a problem at any time. I would recommend them to anybody.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review the home. And thank you for such a lovely review! We really appreciate it and it's a much-needed morale boost in these strange and difficult times.
During challenging times, (covid) communication remained excellent, and the staff were always proactive regarding my mother's nursing and emotional needs.
I would not hesitate to recommend this exemplary home and would once again thank Donnington House for their support and compassion.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the home. We appreciate your kind words very much, especially during these very unusual (Covid) circumstances. It was always a pleasure to care for your mother and to deal with anything your family required.
Donnington House carers are the best I’ve ever seen. They are so caring and loving towards the residents and have genuine care.
Dear Louise,
Thank you so much and 'wow' what a lovely review of the care workers who work so hard.
Thank you again.
Sam.
My mother has been cared for by Donnington House for about six months. I cannot speak more highly about this home. The empathy, care and love for the residents is incredible. The staff are all welcoming (without exception), always helpful. Something, in particular, is the focus on care for relatives and friends of the residents as well as those in the home. We have always felt welcome and part of the family. We have tried several homes before for respite and this significantly exceeds all others. A key part of the success of Donnington to us is the approach of all staff. It's cheery. It's a great place.
Thank you very much for your incredible review. We are very proud of our Home and our staff and we really appreciate you taking the time to communicate your thoughts. You have been a wonderful family to care for and we will miss trying to feed you apple crumble!
My Dad has been cared for by the wonderful team at Donnington House until he passed away at the home. Throughout his journey he was treated with immense dignity and respect. He was fond of every member of staff and a good relationship was built with all of them. The home was always spotlessly clean. Dad had often said that the food was very good. There was a good variety of entertainment and I wish Dad had been in a position to join in, but he loved listening to music as it wafted through the home. My family and I were supported with compassion and empathy through a very sad and difficult time by the kind and caring staff whatever the time of day. I am so pleased my Dad was able to spend his last months in such a facility and I do thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart.
Dear Christine, Thank you very much for taking the time to review the home. We appreciate your very positive comments. It was a pleasure to care for your dad and your family.
I would recommend this home to everyone. It's always clean and tidy, the staff are very friendly and welcoming and helpful. The residents are always happy and there are lots of activities for the residents and families to join in with. The meals look good and smell great, if you don't fancy what is on the menu, they will cook what you want. Brilliant place to live well done to all concerned in the running of the home.
What a lovely review, thank you Melanie. Our staff work very hard to achieve the standard expected and it is always appreciated when it is viewed so highly by someone caring for a loved one.
My Mother-in-Law has been in Donnington for 18 months. She has always received excellent care. The staff go above and beyond and are also friendly to us.

Meet the Team (3)

Hello, my name is Sophie, and I am delighted to be the Registered Manager at Donnington House.
After having my son at the age of 40 I decided that I want to work for a business with a philosophy and standards that I truly believed in, and one that genuinely made a difference to improve the quality of life for people in my community. Donnington House, which is a non-profit charity organisation that truly puts care of the elderly at the heart of everything it delivers, was a perfect fit.Donnington House provides its residents with a relaxed, safe, and homely environment in which their care, well-being and comfort are of paramount importance.
The staffing team strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality, and privacy of all the residents within a warm and caring atmosphere and are sensitive to the resident’s changing needs.Such needs may be medical, cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional, and social. Residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their plan in care in which the involvement of family and friends is always valued.
I previously worked in the very profit and commercial led sector of retail for over 15 years where I held the role of Head of Retail for a market leading brand. I started working at Donnington House as the Business Manager and simply fell in love with the culture of the home. I retrained, immersed myself in the care industry and was interviewed by the Care Quality Commission and the Board of Trustees at Donnington House which led to my promotion as Registered Manager in 2022.I aim to ensure that Donnington House is a home from home for our resident’s.
All staff within the Home are appropriately qualified to deliver the highest standards of care. A continuous training programme is implemented to ensure that standards are maintained in line with the developments in care practices and laid down in legislation, regulations, and the Care Quality Commission guidelines.

I feel that I am approachable for the staff to come and see me if they encounter any problems. I love seeing the residents taking part in various activities that the home offers and just having a general chat with them and listening to them talk about there lives.

I have worked within the care sector for 33 years in various settings including Bognor War Memorial Hospital and as a Field Care Supervisor in the community. I joined The Donnington House team in 2007 which provides a high standard of support and care for up to 28 elderly residents.
Donnington House has supported me with excellent training opportunities, achieving a Level 3 in Health and Social Care in October 2013. I then became a Moving and Handling advisor providing in-house training to all staff. In 2018 I was supported by the nursing team to achieve a Level 4 Diploma in Adult Social Care and became qualified to support the nursing team with administering medication.
In January 2022 I was promoted under a new manager to Senior Care Practitioner. I now lead and support the care team through an extensive training programme which includes the 15 standards of care as set out in The Care Certificate, providing the knowledge and understanding to be able to promote and provide high quality, individualised person-centred care in safe comfortable surroundings.
As part of my job role, I lead the care team to ensure every resident has their wishes, needs and preferences met in a dignified and respectful way, following all core values of Donnington House.
I have always enjoyed my job role at Donnington House and always feel well supported. I believe the care and support we provide are more personalised as it is an independent, not-for-profit charity-run home where people matter.
