My husband has been with Donnington Care Home since February 2024, previously having had some respite there. I was invited to check over the place and was very pleasantly surprised by all aspects of the care and love shown to all clients and family. I cannot praise all the staff highly enough. Nothing
is too much trouble. My husband's needs are being met on all aspects. The chef and kitchen staff are only too willing to oblige my and my husband requests. Everyone is looked after on a very personal level. The cheery faces of all that care for my husband put my heart at peace. The activities organized for the clients are first class. I would recommend this care home to anyone looking for a placement where love kindness and care are their priorities.

All the staff are very friendly, polite and respectful and are well trained. Care to the residents is very good.
The food is excellent served hot and on time. All dietary and nutritional needs met.
Reception rooms and residents' rooms are kept clean. Housekeeping is very efficient.
The management
team are always available if you have any concerns.

My husband spent 18 days respite to give me a break. He was well looked after. He had been unsettled in prior homes he stayed at and I was worried about how he would be but I shouldn’t have been. We both were welcomed so warmly and he was over joyed with the way he was looked after day and night. He
is a very complex case and he has no mobility and cannot see where he is going, but he was always looked after very very well by the staff. His needs were all looked after, nothing was too much trouble.
I had two lovely meals while he was being fed that had been cooked by the chef. Was such a treat for me.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. I had no concerns about leaving him there.
He told me that he wasn’t worried anymore about going into respite and would go back anytime, which for me was so good to hear, after our experiences, over the years.
I thank all the team at Donnington for their friendliness, making us feel welcome and for helping him feel happy and not worried anymore.

We can't recommend Donnington House more highly.
The care here is exceptional and it feels like an extension of family. We moved our uncle down to the area when his former care home in another area closed and the team at Donnington have been beyond brilliant in keeping him calm and happy even in his

My mother has been a resident at Donnington House since January 2023. We enquired about availability when my mother asked about having some respite care in December 2022. Donnington House's assessment was prompt, courteous and careful and they offered assistance. My mother was welcomed on the 27th of
December with grace and care, during her pleasant three-week stay she chose to remain at Donnington House. She has welcomed conversations and friendships from all the staff who care for her with her increasing disability following two TIA's The staff's concern and sadness at Mum's growing disability was self-evident and very touching to her family.

My uncle was placed in Donnington House around eight months ago, when he went in he was very distressed and apprehensive, but due to the nice homely feel and the excellent staff and care, he absolutely loves it and states he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else as this is his home! This makes such a difference
to us as a family to know he enjoys where he lives and that he is getting the very best care 24/7, so thank you to all the staff at Donnington House! Not all heroes were capes! Thank you.

A heartfelt way to let others know of the very best care home, Donnington House. You need look no further to find an outstanding home for your loved one. All the staff, and there are many at all times, were compassionate, kind, thoughtful and understanding of Mum's needs. Always with respect and dignity,
they met requests, where possible, and always kept us informed of what was going on.
Comfortable, compassionate, understandings of needs, good pain relief and care/hygiene, attention to detail, happy and homely atmosphere, beautiful scenic gardens, fabulous home-cooked food and assistance when dining, if required, but never rushed. Great activities and very clean, lovely rooms. All the staff at Donnington House, not only outstanding, but exceptional.

Compassionate, caring, understanding, considerate, kind and welcoming. This is just some of what I experienced whilst visiting a friend who was a resident at Donnington House for a number of years.
Experienced staff that work together as a team and have time to listen. There is an immediate sense
of being in a homely and safe environment. So important for family and friends to know. The staff also always find time to talk to visitors about any concerns or questions they may have.
Lovely well well-maintained private gardens for residents. In-house activities are offered to those who would like to participate, together with regular outside entertainment who come in to visit.
The meals provided are really great. Catering for individual needs or requests. Nothing is too much trouble, and all provided by the top chefs and their hard-working team.
All in all - the best place to be if you or a loved one may require excellent care, short or long-term.

Our mother was a resident here for the last few months of her life. We were so glad we chose Donnington House following a disappointing experience at another care home in the area. The staff were fantastic and provided excellent care, giving mum every opportunity to make the most of her situation despite
her declining health. We were never in any doubt that she was receiving the very best care possible, and we were kept updated if there were any issues or concerns. In addition, the social side is well catered for, with a range of activities the residents can take part in collectively or individually, depending on their ability and preference. They really do make sure people aren’t excluded or isolated. We were particularly grateful to be able to use the conservatory for a family occasion, and provided with a wonderful lunch and cake. It’s hard to overstate the difference that Donnington House and its kind, caring staff made for mum and our family in the last stages of her life.

My father was at Donnington House for four years. Without a doubt, is the best care home that I have ever visited. The staff were always warm and friendly and went out of their way to make me feel included. During every visit I was able to talk to someone about my father and his well-being.
My father
had capacity right until the end of his life and said that there was nowhere that he would rather be. He felt very well looked after and was stimulated with regular conversations with his carers and trustees that visited him. He really enjoyed discussions about the birds outside on the bird table and his love of gardening. His carers were always kind, caring and empathetic. He had everything that he needed and the kitchen staff always provided strawberries for his lunch, which he adored.
I always felt that he was safe and extremely well cared for. During his end-of-life care the staff explained everything to us and were very sensitive to Dad's and my family's needs.

My mother spent two weeks of respite at Donnington House after coming out of hospital and before returning home. I can not speak highly enough of the home, it is the friendliest and most caring place any family could wish for. Whilst I visited every day I observed how every resident was treated with
dignity and as an individual. It seemed all the staff knew all their little habits and anticipated needs. I too was treated very warmly and enjoyed some lovely lunches with my mother.
The relationship between the staff also appeared excellent making it feel like a happy place. I have only given the rooms four stars but I know that if a permanent resident, they can be made more personal.

Donnington House is perfect for our family member. The staff are caring and attentive, the food is tasty and varied, we have eaten there with our relative on several occasions. The open visiting policy is very helpful for us as we don’t live in the local area. The building itself may be a little worn
and tired in places, but this in no way detracts from the care received. To be honest, we and our family member prefer the homely environment to a hospital-like modern facility. The activities and entertainment have been a welcome distraction at times, while our family member adjusts to residential living. The home is always fresh, warm and the gardens are lovely. We consider ourselves lucky to have secured a place at Donnington House. In the grand scheme of things, there is really nothing that warrants criticism, nursing care is a hard job and we thank everyone for looking after our cousin.

My mum has been a resident at Donnington House for four years. Her needs have increased since admission and she is now bed bound and highly dependent. Throughout her stay, her care has been of the highest standard and I feel fortunate that we found Donnington House when Mum needed care. I have never

I visit Donnington House once a month, as a priest, I take a Holy Communion service for the residents. I will also visit a resident's room to provide spiritual care if required. I am always treated with courtesy and the residents that like to attend my service are brought promptly to the lounge.
My
impression is that residents are well cared for and happy. They tell me about the activities they enjoy and how good the meals are. The staff are friendly and approachable.

My mother's experience at Donnington House has been simply outstanding. We moved her in May 2020 and the improvement in her mental and physical health was transformative. In the last three years, she has received outstandingly good care. Kind attentive and 108% professional. All the Donnington House
staff deserve the Order of the British Empire. the food is Michelin star quality. Above all, as relatives, we are welcomed and supported. Donnington House is a gem. We feel blessed to have our mother there. Thank you!

My friend became a resident almost two years ago. I have visited her once every week on different days and at different times. I've always found the staff friendly and helpful and very kind to my friend. Even when she went into hospital, two of the staff visited her. Even with Covid to contend with,
they did their best. The residents' special occasions are marked with love.

I have been attending Donnington House for over a year now with my dog as part of the Pets as Therapy programme. I have found the home to be a very welcoming environment and all the staff I have met are very caring and friendly. The activity organiser has made us particularly welcome and my dog adores
her as she always has treats in her pocket. The residents all seem happy and comfortable. The whole place has a comfortable and homely feel. I would not hesitate to recommend Donnington House.

Sophie Lafferty

Hello, my name is Sophie, and I am delighted to be the Registered Manager at Donnington House.


After having my son at the age of 40 I decided that I want to work for a business with a philosophy and standards that I truly believed in, and one that genuinely made a difference to improve the quality of life for people in my community. Donnington House, which is a non-profit charity organisation that truly puts care of the elderly at the heart of everything it delivers, was a perfect fit.
Donnington House provides its residents with a relaxed, safe, and homely environment in which their care, well-being and comfort are of paramount importance.


The staffing team strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality, and privacy of all the residents within a warm and caring atmosphere and are sensitive to the resident’s changing needs.

Such needs may be medical, cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional, and social. Residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their plan in care in which the involvement of family and friends is always valued.


I previously worked in the very profit and commercial led sector of retail for over 15 years where I held the role of Head of Retail for a market leading brand. I started working at Donnington House as the Business Manager and simply fell in love with the culture of the home. I retrained, immersed myself in the care industry and was interviewed by the Care Quality Commission and the Board of Trustees at Donnington House which led to my promotion as Registered Manager in 2022.
I aim to ensure that Donnington House is a home from home for our resident’s.


All staff within the Home are appropriately qualified to deliver the highest standards of care. A continuous training programme is implemented to ensure that standards are maintained in line with the developments in care practices and laid down in legislation, regulations, and the Care Quality Commission guidelines.

Samantha Saunders Lane

Job Title: Business Manager Joined: 2022

I joined Donnington House as an administrator, the moment I walked in to Donnington it felt welcoming, friendly and homely. I was promoted to Business Manager in 2022 and I love my role, I am front of house and get to meet residents families and friends and have a great rapport with them.
I feel that I am approachable for the staff to come and see me if they encounter any problems. I love seeing the residents taking part in various activities that the home offers and just having a general chat with them and listening to them talk about there lives.

Tracy Kirtlan

Job Title: Senior Care Practitioner Joined: 2011

I have worked within the care sector for 33 years in various settings including Bognor War Memorial Hospital and as a Field Care Supervisor in the community. I joined The Donnington House team in 2007 which provides a high standard of support and care for up to 28 elderly residents.


Donnington House has supported me with excellent training opportunities, achieving a Level 3 in Health and Social Care in October 2013. I then became a Moving and Handling advisor providing in-house training to all staff. In 2018 I was supported by the nursing team to achieve a Level 4 Diploma in Adult Social Care and became qualified to support the nursing team with administering medication.


In January 2022 I was promoted under a new manager to Senior Care Practitioner. I now lead and support the care team through an extensive training programme which includes the 15 standards of care as set out in The Care Certificate, providing the knowledge and understanding to be able to promote and provide high quality, individualised person-centred care in safe comfortable surroundings.


As part of my job role, I lead the care team to ensure every resident has their wishes, needs and preferences met in a dignified and respectful way, following all core values of Donnington House.


I have always enjoyed my job role at Donnington House and always feel well supported. I believe the care and support we provide are more personalised as it is an independent, not-for-profit charity-run home where people matter.
