Tenchley Manor is a purpose-built care home, designed to provide exceptional specialist nursing care to up to 37 residents. Tenchley Manor has recently undergone extensive renovation and development and provides comfortable and spacious lounges and dining areas. Most rooms are ensuite, and a number of rooms have disabled wet rooms.

For additional comfort and safety, assisted medical baths are provided. Residents are supported and assisted at mealtimes, and special dietary requirements are catered for. Their catering teams produce a range of nutritious and tasty meals.

The home's nurse-led team provides care for those of advanced years, and adults of all ages. The quality of staff training is crucial to the service's effectiveness, with carers currently aiming to complete the Gold Standards Award. Pride is taken in the quality of staff training given to ensure that a consistently high standard of care is delivered.

Lovely welcome into a clean, warm environment. We were offered refreshments while we sat at a comfortable table in the sitting room overlooking the sea. There are plenty of friendly staff members around to assist the residents, it's lovely to see that the residents obviously know them well and have
good relationships with them.

I found the team at Tenchley brilliant. Everyone is not only highly professional but genuinely cares about the wellbeing and comfort of every resident. Although my mum was only at the home for 2 weeks, the team all got to know her personally and were keen to tailor support to meet her needs and preferences.
Tenchley provided a happy family type environment where mum felt loved and cared for. She was treated with true kindness, dignity and respect. The carers were patient and compassionate, ensuring mum was comfortable and at ease, and the nurses outstanding. As visitors we were also looked after - made to feel comfortable and welcome, and given exceptional support as she sadly declined. The entire Tenchley team played their part - in every interaction their dedication and empathy was clearly evident. Thank you to everyone.

My first impression when I visited Tenchley Manor was that it was a homely and a happy place. All the staff were welcoming and there was fun and laughter coming from the residents in the lounge. I knew straight away that this was the environment where my husband could be happy. His working life was
with boats and the sea so the wonderful garden down to the beach would be perfect for him.
The decision that my husband could no longer be safely cared for at home was hard and heartbreaking. It was a very difficult and upsetting time for us all but all the staff have been so supportive of myself and all the family. My husband moved into Tenchley Manor in June and is cared for with kindness, respect and patience. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, they are well trained and communication between them is excellent. Real team work!
Tenchley Manor is like a big family home and I don't think I could have chosen a better place for my husband.

My husband was admitted to Tenchley Manor last June after an 8-week stay in hospital. After weeks of trying to get him mobile it was decided he needed adult care. We, as a family, are very pleased with the care he receives from wonderful people at Tenchley.

I wrote to the home manager after my husband died peacefully on February 21 2025.


"He came to Tenchley from hospital following surgery during Covid. We always hoped that he would eventually return home. Instead, Tenchley Manor became home from home for my husband and me and for Oaky too. He

loved his room and the view over the Solent, where he could track the shipping on his Ipad.


My husband had many and complex issues all of which were addressed with expertise and concern by your staff. Always a reticent man, he grew to appreciate everyone so very much and to enjoy their care, good humour and friendship. In his last few days, he asked us to make sure that we thanked you all from him.


I will miss my visits to Tenchley Manor - it was so much part of my daily routine. And Oaky will miss his treats and naps. My family and I can't thank everyone enough for looking after Christopher. You've come to lead a wonderful place. Look after everyone and give them all our love and gratitude."

Our father moved into Tenchley Manor, Selsey, on 21st June 2024 and from that time until his passing on 27th November 2024, we cannot praise the staff enough for their dedication, gentle care and genuine kindness. They were wonderful and our father was very appreciative - as were we. Whenever possible,
the staff gave a lot of time and interest to both our father and mother (who is still a resident). The management, nurses, carers, catering staff and housekeeping team were all extremely supportive to my sister, brother, myself and our parents during a difficult time and we are forever grateful to them. The consideration they had (and still have for our mother), is so much appreciated. A wonderful team and I have been singing their praises to so many people.

My mum arrived at Tenchley on the 5th September and I knew from that day I had chosen the right place for her care.
The staff are genuinely caring and I could see this in my mum's non-verbal cues when she saw them or they were giving her care. The staff took time to get to know Mum, and there was never
any rush for example when taking time to feed her.
The nursing staff were very experienced in Palliative care and I had every confidence in the decisions they suggested.
On the day of her passing the staff were very attentive and made sure we as a family ate and drank. They were very respectful at all times.
We cannot thank them enough.

I remember many years ago visiting an old friend in the building, it had a different name at the time but the garden was extensive and lovely. When I was very ill in hospital I was asked, if I survived, which home I would like to go to. I didn't know the name, but I remember the garden, and here I am!
How about that! The care I have received has been brilliant. I have been so lucky. The staff are caring and efficient. I couldn't ask for more.

My Mum stayed in Tenchley Manor for 2 years. She died on 20th July this year. My husband and I visited multiple times each week.
We encountered many problems over this time. One of our main concerns was the appalling communication between staff members, us, management and more importantly, the lack
of communication between staff members and Mum.
The staff don't have time to spend with the residents. They are rushed and always seem short-staffed.
Some of the staff were kind, friendly and good at their jobs, and I appreciate them. Others didn't seem to have the supervision or training they so clearly needed. This was a concern.
There was a high turnover of staff in the time Mum was there. They won't keep good staff until they listen to their genuine concerns.
I would definitely not recommend Tenchley Manor to others. I do not feel that my Mum was cared for to an acceptable standard.
I felt I had a constant battle, just trying to make sure Mum was getting what she needed.

Visited my dad for the first time at this nursing home. He was clean, well-groomed and happy watching the Olympics. He said he was happy and the food was good. The staff were pleasant and attentive all the time, offering drinks and getting meal requirements from others as well as my dad. Other residents
were chatty and cheerful. Went home feeling very happy that he was secure and well looked after.

Having spent a number of days visiting several nursing homes, we chose Tenchley Manor as it felt like a house and not a hospital setting. Warm and welcoming atmosphere, lovely staff. Care of my mum was dealt with sensitively and compassionately. Regular updates face to face or on the phone. Care shown
to us as well. Speak thanks to three particular nurses. A real home from home - thank you to everyone who cared for Mum.

My dad has been a Tenchley Manor resident for 3 years now and he is definitely in the right place. He is well looked after in all aspects of his care by wonderful staff who do all they can to make him comfortable. Not only do they give my dad first-class care they are always there to support me too
with kindness and warmth when I find it particularly hard to see my dad so poorly. My dog regularly accompanies me on my visits to see Dad and he loves coming too as he's always thoroughly spoiled with lots of doggie treats.

My husband has been a resident at Tenchley for a number of years and often speaks of how happy he is. Management are always so welcoming and supportive and always find time to catch up with us a family.
The staff are caring and take care to ensure that his needs are met, both medically, physically
and mentally.

I cannot thank the staff at Tenchley Manor enough. As a family, over the generations this area has always been our second home, unfortunately of late it is not possible for us to take Mum with us on holiday due to the deterioration of her health, however, with Mum in respite at Tenchley Manor she was
able to holiday with us with exceptional care provided on her stay and at the same time enjoying a few days out with the family.

Everyone has been exceptionally kind and caring. Dad moved here sixteen months ago to be closer to Mum. He loved to sit in the day room every morning with a view of the sea. Mum visited daily and was also kindly looked after, sometimes joining in activities or happily staying to lunch dates with Dad.
Throughout his stay, he has received outstanding care from everyone and we were always made welcome and never concerned to leave him in your care. He had no worries and passed peacefully within view of the sea. We can't begin to thank you enough for all you have done for Dad during his stay with you. It will never be forgotten.
