The care that my father has received has been wonderful. All the nurses, carers, kitchen staff and management have been excellent. Everyone is so caring and helpful. My father appears to be very happy at Tenchley Manor.
Our team thank you so much for your kind words; it means so much to them. We try to enable each person to live a happy life here.
I am really happy with everything. Mum is happy, confident, warm and comfortable. Very well cared for. I have no need to worry about anything as I know I will be informed immediately if anything is wrong.
Thank you for your review. It is a pleasure to have your mum with us. We value input from residents and their loved ones and aim to provide the best care for all.
My cousin was a resident at Tenchley Manor since August 2022. From day one she was bedridden and the care she received was outstanding from all the staff involved. Whenever we visited we were made to feel most welcome and supported. As we don't live locally we knew each time we left she was warm, comfortable and in good hands. During her last days, she was treated with the utmost dignity and respect. Thank you so much to all the staff.
Thank you for your review. We are proud of our staff and the care that they deliver to our residents. It is always lovely to receive feedback from our resident's families and I am so pleased that you have had a positive experience.
My mother was cared for in her last few weeks. The room was beautiful with views of the garden and sea. Every single staff member, without exception, was outstanding in the care they offered her and all the family at the end. I am taking comfort in the knowledge that she received the best available.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so proud of our caring team who endeavour to treat everybody with dignity, respect and genuinely care about our Residents, their family & friends. Caring really is at the heart of everything we do.
I can definitely vouch for Tenchley as a safe, happy retirement home, with the added bonus of a beautiful setting in landscaped gardens, through which you can walk straight through to the seafront. Highly recommended.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We always endeavour to enable people to live as independently as possible in their new home with us at Tenchley. We are so very grateful to you and your family for your support of the home and our residents.
From the moment she arrived at Tenchley Manor, Mum was told that she was home and that was true. She was warm, clean and well cared for by the lovely staff - from the lady with a cup of tea to the carers, medical staff and manager. She was unable to get out of bed but was always kept under supervision. She died peacefully with family by her side in the home and they were kind and caring to all of us. If possible, I would give Tenchley Manor and the staff 6 stars.
We are so happy that your mum felt that she was at ‘home’. We try our very best to provide a warm, homely and caring environment. To us, our slogan, “Caring Is At The Heart Of Everything We Do” is more than a slogan, it is an innate quality we look for in all of our staff. We will miss you all.
Normally very good care is given but obviously when there is a shortage of staff (particularly over weekends) care and attention are a lot slower. Otherwise, the care and attention to residents are excellent.
All staff are friendly and attentive to the residents. My grandfather has settled well in the few months he has been at Tenchley Manor. He is thriving and looks the best he has in a very long time.
Your grandfather is very much looking forward to the warmer weather and getting out into the garden and seafront!
My bedroom is very comfortable and I get on with the staff and the nursing staff are very good.
Our staff team will appreciate your compliment.
Thank you.
After being here for only five weeks, I am still in a period of transition from home but am happily settling in with the help of all the staff and management. My room is beautiful with scenic garden/sea views with doors opening out to a terrace. The food is more than ample and very good quality and various options are available. The loudness of the call bells can be very irritating but apart from that, am very happy.
Thank you for your review. We are happy that you are settling in well and it is wonderful to have you with us.
Warm, friendly and helpful staff. Good level of care. Good food. Lovely room. Delay, sometimes quite a considerable delay, in answering my mother's beeper when she needs help (usually regarding toileting needs).
Thank you for your kind words. We do endeavour to answer call bells in a timely manner and can only apologise that there has been an occasional delay. We will feedback to the care team to ensure that standards are maintained. Please do not hesitate to contact us, we are always available to discuss matters.
The team put everything into caring.
Thank you for your feedback and kind words. Caring is at the heart of everything we do.
Nearly two years at Tenchley Manor after his massive stroke, Dad has had fantastic care and attention. Thanks so much to all the staff.
Thank you for your feedback. We welcome all feedback at Tenchley Manor.
My husband received excellent care and attention from the friendly staff. The food was first-rate. The location is wonderful - easy to access by car, bus or taxi. There are lovely views from the communal room and a beautiful garden that leads directly to the beach. Thank you, Tenchley Manor, for all that you have done for my husband.
Thank you so much for your kind praise. It means a lot to us to be able to enable people to be well enough to return home. We wish you the very best and hope that you keep in touch.
My sister was transferred to Tenchley Manor when the nursing home where she had been a resident was no longer able to manage her needs. Since then, her physical health appears to have steadily improved. She has put on a bit of weight, her skin and hair look healthy, and on my most recent visit, she was more alert and responsive than she has been for some time. I am not her official "next of kin", but I have been very satisfied with what I have seen of the care that she is receiving.
Thank you very much for your kind words, they mean a lot to our team. We endeavour to put caring for our residents' needs above everything else.
Brilliant people who looked after my mother beyond my expectations. Although Mum was really quite unwell, the staff here were very compassionate and understanding. Really, these people went way beyond what you would expect and have a real connection to Mum, even at her worst moments - I couldn’t have asked for a better and more dignified care package.
Thank you so much for your feedback, we really value your kind words.
An array of friendly, helpful staff who always have a smile to greet you when they aren't busy. I visit almost every day and have seen nothing untoward, only hardworking people who genuinely seem to care. The resident is struggling with the transition so patience with her is so important. I think she is receiving that care, although I can only judge by what I see on my visits. I hope it is the case. Overall, I am very impressed with this home and the staff.
Thank you for your comments. The transition into any home can be difficult for residents and extremely unsettling. Staff are very much aware of this and with reassurance and patience, this process is much more reassuring for those in our care and reaches a good outcome for our residents.
My husband has been cared for at Tenchley Manor Care Home for a year. The staff are very kind, humorous and very vigilant towards their residents. Nothing is too much trouble. The premises are clean and tidy. Because of Covid-19, there has been a lack of activities but I am sure there will be a full calendar when things return to normal.
Thank you for your kind words. We are very much hoping that activities will start to recommence as covid restrictions are lifted. We are about to start some garden activities very soon.
I'm extremely satisfied with the care my husband is getting, right from him being admitted the manager, nursing staff and all the caring staff are without a doubt friendly and are going the extra mile for comfort and care, not just for him but our family's well-being also. Questions are answered and always someone is available if needed. Thank you everyone for taking care of my husband, dad, brother, grandad to every member of our family.
Thank you for your kind words, they are really appreciated. We always endeavour to carry out our roles to the full. When residents come to Tenchley Manor, we value them and their relatives and loved ones, they are always included in our everyday care. We always look forward to your visits.
I hope you forgive me for saying but I think it is inappropriate at this time to review opinions of this nursing home. I know from experience, that understaffing will put any system under severe pressure and then cracks may appear, which can hardly serve as an accurate review. The manager and her assistant have been extremely helpful. As in many sectors in life, some members of staff stand out from others for their considerate nature which makes our situation more bearable.

Meet the Team (7)

I’ve completed a manager's training course and take pride in creating a nurturing environment where residents feel enriched, stimulated, and content in their homes.

I joined Tenchley Manor in 2022 and have found it to be one of the nicest places I have ever worked. From the moment you walk through the door, there is a lovely family, homely, welcoming and caring feel. As Administrator, I make sure that residents, their families and friends feel welcomed, comfortable and at home from the moment they arrive and throughout their time at Tenchley Manor. I hold a BA Ed Hons and a Level 2 qualification in Business Administration.

I love to keep everything organized, neat and tidy for the home and the residents and am good at time management which means I don’t fall behind. I like to see everyone happy and am well supported in my role here at Tenchley Manor.

I joined Tenchley Manor in 1996 and love the friendly, homely atmosphere. We all strive to make every day fun and interesting, with residents, families, staff and guests getting involved. I always aim to put a smile on people’s faces and treat everyone equally, with care, compassion and understanding. I am a good listener and hope to help put any fears about coming into care at rest. To me, being a carer is about being a friend too. I hold an NVQ in care and regularly complete training to keep my knowledge and skills up to date across all aspects of care.

I joined the team in December 2022 and have 22 years of experience in my profession. I enjoy building meaningful, long-term relationships with our residents and supporting their individual needs. I believe I can enrich people’s lives by listening to them, providing compassionate care and helping to resolve any concerns they may have.

I joined Tenchley Manor in 2024 and really enjoy being part of such a friendly, welcoming team. The staff make it feel like a family, and it is an honour to work alongside them. I believe kindness and a positive attitude go a long way, and I enjoy helping to create a warm and happy environment for everyone. Although I am not directly involved in residents’ care, the training I have completed helps me understand their needs and how I can best support them in my role.

I love spending time with our Residents, getting to know them, hearing their stories and building meaningful relationships. I enjoy crafts, outings and finding ways to make Residents smile, whether through a conversation, a helping hand or my singing!
With previous experience in activities at a holiday camp, I wanted to make a difference in people's lives. I have a Mental Health First Aid qualification and Level 2 in Counselling Skills, but I believe a warm heart and open arms are just as important.
