Recently, my mum had urgent need to be housed in a safe and secure environment. With the assistance of social services, a room was offered at The Gables Care Home. Immediately, my fears and worries were alleviated. I cannot thank the Staff enough for all their care, patience and attention given to my mum, since her arrival nothing is too much trouble. She tells me how helpful and loving the staff are and how nice the food is and it is lovely to see her smiling again. Once again, thank you to the management and support staff of The Gables.

My aunt had been a resident of The Gables for six and a half years and was extremely well looked after. Unfortunately, she passed away in November but the care and compassion the staff showed her was above and beyond and we are very grateful.

Thank you for your comments. After such a long time of being a resident in the home, it's always difficult for staff when our residents pass away, having built up relationships with the person and their families. I'm glad she was able to celebrate her 100th birthday earlier this year.

Well, this is my last and final review of the Gables. My dad had nearly made his 8 years on September 16th which would have been his birthday and he would have been 81 - he also went into the Gables on his birthday. He had chronic mobility, Parkinson's disease and dementia. Sadly he deteriorated very quickly with not being able to hardly talk and swallow which was so, so distressing. He finally passed peacefully on 4/09/2022 thank God. We now know he is at peace and has not got to suffer anymore - sadly life is very cruel to some. My mum and I would like to thank every single member of staff at the Gables for the love they gave him and my mum and I. I had to clear out his room and the staff were so upset as I know they loved him. It's been a horrid 8 years watching a loved one fade away but we get comfort he was looked after right until the end and every single member of staff knows what we think of them. For one last time, from the bottom of our hearts - thank you all.

I chose the Gables for my sister because it was near to my home and I would be able to visit regularly. I deemed this important as she had dementia and lacked capacity. From my first conversation with the manager, I knew I had made the right choice. No effort was spared to assist me in settling my sister. In fact, her physical condition improved greatly and I and her visitors said they had noticed a marked improvement in her since admission. We were shocked when my sister passed away some 6 weeks later. Indeed it is fair to say that the staff felt so too. This situation however does not detract from the care she received during this period.

All the staff are compassionate and caring. They treat my mum with great sensitivity and kindness. The staff work hard to ensure there are plenty of activities and entertainment and I feel reassured that my mum is safe and happy there.

As restrictions eased, I could visit and take him out. The staff were all lovely and really took good care of him, resulting in good mobility and regaining his dignity. We cannot thank the Gables enough for what they have done as it would have been very challenging, due to his nature and dementia. Thank you so much.

On occasions, relationships with families are not as good as they might ideally be, regrettably, this was such an instance. A number of complaints were raised and we investigated all of them. Where we felt we could have done better we said as much, but in all bar very few instances, review by ourselves found your complaints to be unfounded. Where complaints were referred to the Local Authority and CQC their own investigations exonerated us. It is our understanding that we are not the only care provider against whom you have lodged complaints. We would draw to your attention to the fact that our staff have reported issues of verbal abuse from family members during this difficult episode which left them feeling threatened and intimidated. As an employer, we do not tolerate such abuse and we will seriously consider taking legal action when this occurs.We are proud of the CQC report which rates the home as ‘GOOD’ and the many positive reviews which have been consistently high.

Mum was a resident at The Gables for almost three years before she passed away, recently. She no longer knew who we were and the staff at The Gables became her family, as well as providing her care. I found that all the staff were helpful and supportive in helping me to keep as much contact with Mum as was possible. This was quite difficult, as I live almost 300 miles away. I cannot speak too highly of the support that my husband and I received on the night Mum passed away. The staff on duty were so caring and considerate. I feel they helped Mum to go with dignity. Several members of staff said very positive things to me about Mum, including the fact that you could laugh and joke with her. That tells me that she was happy there.

My ninety seven old mother went into The Gables last October just before another wave of Covid-19. We were not allowed into the building or to see her to explain the reason for her not being allowed out of the building nor for visitors to be allowed in. The only communication was via telephone, email or the homes laptop for face time. The carers looked after her well and the food was good as she would soon have told me if not but we didn’t really get to see how caring they were and the affection they had for her until her last few days of her life when we were allowed in on compassionate grounds. Mum was not the most amiable of people, but the staff worked their way around this to keep her as comfortable and happy as possible, especially during the Covid period. The manager was exceptional and very good at solving any issues we had with Mum and overcoming any problems promptly.

During Covid-19 I have missed my dad, but have been updated regularly. When visiting it is amazing how they are keeping residents safe and the fact they have had no Covid-19 cases in the home at all.

The Gables is situated in a beautiful location with the sea and sand across the road and a pleasant garden to sit in and enjoy the sea air.
