The Paddocks is located in the centre of Swaffham, a beautiful and tranquil Norfolk town with plenty of shops and cafes as well as a weekly market. Swaffham is situated 12 miles east of Kings Lynn and 31 miles west of Norwich, which makes it a great base to explore Norfolk including the North Norfolk Coast and The Norfolk Broads.

The home offers the flexibility of respite care for short breaks and permanent care for those who can no longer live at home. There is a separate purpose-built unit specialising in the care of residents who have dementia type illnesses in addition to support those residents with residential needs.

As winter approaches, health problems can increase. The Paddocks care team are well aware of this and it is just so reassuring that help is on hand before it is even requested. No training programme can ensure this happy outcome. The local area has suffered a major water crisis this morning. No matter
- the catering staff came up with imaginative solutions. In short, The Paddocks is a remarkable community, well-led by gifted and experienced administrators.

Plenty of food. I'm free to get out of my room when I like. So glad that we have the activities lady, she works hard. Care workers stop to listen and are cheerful.

My father was admitted to The Paddocks in June 2020, following a spell in hospital in the midst of the pandemic. He has been made to feel very comfortable and welcomed from the beginning. All the staff are very attentive to his needs and have been very accommodating in allowing us to see him during
these difficult times. He has described his care and the food as brilliant (high praise indeed!). The carers even remind him of when his favourite programmes are on TV. A huge thank you to everybody involved with Dad's care.

The carers at The Paddocks really do care about the individual person and their family. My dad was really ill the last week of his life but despite being on lockdown due to COVID, they let me stay with Dad for his final week, they found a way so I didn't come into contact with other residents. For that,
I will be forever grateful.

Really good initial meeting when looking for a place for Dad. Good size, clean room, bright and airy. The Standard of care is excellent, always attentive and friendly, caring and considerate. Food and meals adjusted to suit Dad's desires and appetite. At all stages of his care, staff were more like
friends and family than carers, and we cannot thank the staff enough for making Dad's last few months happy and fulfilled.

My father moved to Sandpiper Wing of The Paddocks Care Home after being diagnosed with Dementia and spending several weeks in and out of hospital for falls. He moved in at the beginning of October 2019 and we were able to choose a room (or as we call it an 'apartment') for him, which we furnished with
his possessions from his old bungalow. The staff have all been brilliant, they are all so caring and never fail to let me know if Dad has had a fall, or if he needs anything. Since the breakout of Covid 19, they have video called me each week so that Dad and I can see each other. This was something which they did, without being prompted by me. They are all truly caring and I could not rate the staff or the facilities highly enough.

Mum had been in The Paddocks for nearly 5 years and this relates to her last month in Sandpiper Wing. After her stroke in November plus dementia, poor co-ordination and poor eating and lack of verbal communication skills, Mum was cared for by the staff and given as much support as possible. She was
kept in familiar surroundings and encouraged, helped and cared for as well as possible given her circumstances. Staff were attentive, friendly, supportive and as cheery as possible to Mum and our family members in her last month. Thank you.

Moving my mum to The Paddocks was the best move. As a family, we were so worried. She has settled in wonderfully and we cannot fault it. Not only have staff been brilliant with Mum, they have really supported us all as a family too. The staff are so friendly, caring and nothing is too much trouble in
every department. Just fabulous.

My wife was resident at The Paddocks for 9 years suffering with Lewy Body Disease. Throughout those 9 years, she and her family were treated with the utmost care and consideration and staff managed to retain her dignity to the very end. Nothing was too much trouble and we, as relatives, were always
made to feel welcome and a part of 'the larger family'. A very difficult job done superbly well. The admin department could be improved!

My husband has just spent a week in your lovely home for respite for me.

good.

My mother has Alzheimer's and is a very strong-willed and extremely physically fit 96-year-old. Her previous care home badly neglected her needs on every level, but finding an alternative that would meet her needs wasn't an easy task with her being unusually robust and active for her age. I visited
many Homes without success .. then came across The Paddocks in the nick of time. The Unit Manager is delightful and very knowledgeable and understanding. She facilitated Mum's move with the best of help and co-operation. Mum's room is beautiful, newly furnished and so homely. After two months, Mum is happier and more cheerful than I've known her to be in 6 years. The staff are so competent in managing the difficult symptoms of dementia. She gets fresh air, exercise, lots to do and 3 excellent meals a day including a full cooked breakfast. The activities co-ordinator is amazing; she deals with Mum with good humour, calm determination and great success. Finally, I have peace of mind.

The care staff were all brilliant with my mother for the four and a half years of her stay. They were always helpful, friendly, and welcoming when we visited and promptly advised if the GP had been called to see her or of any other medical concerns. In many ways they wee he substitute family when we
could not be there and treated her with great dignity and obvious affection.

Both of my parents were receiving nursing care at The Paddocks for just a few weeks at the end of their lives. All of the staff were wonderful and caring. The staff kept us informed at all times of their medical needs. We felt confident in all aspects of the care given to my parents and consideration
given to all the family. I would highly recommend this care home.

The Paddocks are a huge care home, the staff are kept busy and have to do all forms of tasks. When referred, sometimes agency personnel are called for the contact between the home, the doctors, outside NHS, nurses and hospitals which is good when referred. The control of medication is good from the
homes team. Perhaps an increase of new wheel-chairs, walking frames, bed and chair pressure pads, seating pads for comfort and not depending on social services and hospital to "support" the home, across all wings at The Paddocks. For some items i.e toilet and pads, towels and bedding are always there to use, which is nice and clean. This is not a complaint of the home, just a view which may continue to improve the care given.

My mum was admitted to Kingfisher Wing for rehab following a spell in hospital. It was soon evident that her health was failing and she should never have been admitted for rehab as she just wasn't well enough. Her health deteriorated quite rapidly but Kingfisher Wing were brilliant, they arranged for
GP, District Nurses to ensure her final days were comfortable and pain-free. The care staff were so caring, kind and compassionate to my mum in the short time she was there, it was overwhelming. Special thanks must go to the senior carers but also praises for all the other staff who not only looked after mum but us as well.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (7.989)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (7.989) out of 10 for The Paddocks is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.239 for The Paddocks is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.239
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Paddocks is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 100 registered maximum number of service users is 20. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 20 = 0.25
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
