Overall Experience

Our dad has been a resident here for 3.5 years. He now has late-stage dementia. I cannot commend the staff enough for how they have looked after him, particularly during the Covid pandemic when we were unable to visit him. We class Barham as his home. He is cared for well by carers and nursing staff. His dignity and treatment as an individual is maintained - despite his inability to do anything for himself now. I have noticed a change much for the better since a new manager. The staffing is more cohesive and there is certainly more going on for the residents with a full programme of activities. If you are looking for a hotel-style home I would suggest this isn't it. This is a warm, comfortable, caring home. He has always enjoyed his food and, despite him now being on soft food, it is presented well and he still enjoys eating it. Respect of each resident and member of staff is visible. The staff have all stepped up to the additional needs during Covid. Well done!

My brother was a resident for just over 6months, he was admitted for end of life care. I live 3-4hours away from the care centre and when this was explained to the manager, she offered for me to stay at the centre whilst I visited him, which was amazingly kind and thoughtful. My brother received excellent care from all of the staff and he had a named nurse who kept me updated on his condition. All staff were kind and supportive at all times. Although my brother was bed-bound, the staff always ensured that he was included in any activities and events. I have no hesitation in recommending Barham Care Centre.

Thank you so much for the kind review. I am so glad that you managed to get some quality time with your brother and that you were pleased with the care that he received.

My dad went to live at Barham almost a year ago. I was concerned about dad but the home reassured me that dad would be well looked after and he has been. Dad settled in relatively quickly. The staff have been very supportive coping with dad's needs and family updated with his progress. The atmosphere is very homely and you always feel welcome. I enjoyed my weekly visits spending time with dad and talking to staff. Unfortunately, Covid has made visits difficult but I know dad is being well looked after and we can ring if we are concerned. I would like to thank all staff at Barham for their continued hard work throughout these unprecedented times. It’s so appreciated.

Reply from Cathy Aweaney, Home Manager at Barham Care Home

Thank you so much for the kind words. I agree visiting with Covid has been difficult, we look forward to visits starting again when we have our new visiting pod open.

After 25 days in a local NHS hospital, I was transferred to Barham Care Centre for rehab and enabling to a lovely friendly welcome.
All categories on the review I rate as excellent (I did not partake in activities or pay as NHS funded) as examples of the all-round care which the Centre does so well in all departments.
Staff are caring, kind and clever and are obviously happy working for Barham Care Centre.
Grateful thanks to everyone for my continuing progress.

(My stay at Barham was from 4/8/2020 to 6/10/20).

It's 3 years since we chose Barham as the home for my Dad. It felt right 3 years ago, not due to material things that don't matter but the atmosphere in the home.
3 years later and we are extremely happy with the choice we made. In the care sector, some staff do change however the home has consistently had staff that really care.

I doubt we could have found a better home for Dad. Don't choose a home for the things that don't matter, choose it for a high standard of care and love provided by happy staff.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We very much consider you all as family members and enjoy visits from you all. Of course, we are all very fond of your father and care for him deeply. I will pass this amazing feedback on to the team.

My Dad was taken ill last month and possibly has Dementia.
He came out of hospital to the Barham care home and since being here, he has settled in nicely.
The staff are amazing with him, as dad can be difficult at times due to his condition.
The management is lovely also. Always willing to talk to you and keep you updated with everything concerning dads welfare, even in times like these!!
Overall a lovely place to be for dad with amazing care.
Highly recommended!!

And a big thank you to ALL the staff for what you do there.

After a few teething problems when Mum first arrived, her care has been constantly improving. The nursing staff are excellent as are all the care workers. Everyone is always so friendly and are ever ready to help. Mum is settling into her new home very well. She joins the activities she can do and very much enjoys the musical days and movie days. Barham Care Centre is a bright, happy place, which was one of the things I liked on my first impression, very homely.

Reply from Michelle Farrell, Registered Manager at Barham Care Home

Thank you Debra for your kind review. We always find that at the start of placement we need to work together to sort out any issues. I am glad that Mum has settled and is enjoying the music.

My Mum was a resident at Barham Care Home from October 2019 until her recent death. She was exceptionally well-cared for at the home and was settled and happy. The staff were unfailingly helpful and attentive. Barham has extensive facilities, bright and comfortable rooms and regular activities. The housekeeping team are excellent - the home was always spotless, and the food was first-class. Above all, we will never forget the compassion and kindness of the nurses and carers who went well above and beyond their duty, particularly in Mum's final weeks. My family and I unhesitatingly recommend this care home and the wonderful staff.

This is the second care home in which my Father has been a resident and the level of care given is far superior to the first. The staff are knowledgeable, kind and treat all the residents with dignity. Since my Father was moved to Barham, I have been able to relax in the knowledge that he is safe, clean, content and well-fed, offered stimulating activities and conversation which is what he deserves.

Upon arrival at Barham Care Centre one is met by friendly staff and it is evident how busy the home is with much activity.
The place is quiet location wise and the rooms are of sufficient size with adequate equipment.
There appears to be lots for the residents to engage with by way of social interaction and activity (for those able to)

There is little if anything to be critical of.

Dad has been here for just over 1 year. The care he has had has been exceptional. All staff are very caring towards him. He has 1-1 care and every member of staff looks after him well. They are thoughtful, understanding and positive. The only issue has been understaffing sometimes, which although has not directly affected Dad, it sometimes meant safety for other residents was questionable.

My wife has dementia but the attention she was given was first class. Her accommodation was excellent.
This was the first time she has been into respite care and I would not hesitate to make further enquiries at a later date.
The break allowed me to have a golfing holiday with friends which was a complete change.

Many thanks for all concerned.

My husband joined Barham Court Home in January 2018 as a very bewildered man. All the staff very soon made him welcome and comfortable and after a short period of time he settled into a happy environment.
I cannot thank the staff and management enough.

Barham Care Centre was highly recommended to me. Both my father and myself have been made most welcome. Everyone is treated as an individual and with extreme dignity. Everything is bespoke: tailored to the individual needs and likes of residents, from medical care, personal care and food through to social activities.

Residents are treated with respect and friendliness. The staff are very considerate of different residents needs and health.

It is a very happy and enjoyable experience for visitors to see their loved ones so well treated during what may be their last times in which to enjoy life. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the staff. It also seems comforting to those whose residents are in their last few hours/days.
