My dad has been a resident at Kenwith for just over a year, and I'm so impressed with the care and community.
Making the decision to place a loved one in a care home is never easy, but it has given my dad a new lease on life. The management team is so friendly and approachable, the reception team are
always so welcoming and the care team are fantastic, treating my dad with dignity and respect. The activities team is incredible, offering a wide variety of engaging activities for the residents. The home is always spotlessly clean!
A special thank you to the Christmas Day team, who went above and beyond to ensure the residents had a wonderful celebration - my family and I were so impressed.
Knowing my dad is cared for in such a supportive and vibrant community, surrounded by beautiful grounds, has been a huge comfort to me and my family. We always feel so welcome when we visit.
Thank you to everyone at Kenwith Castle for everything you do!
Reply from Phil Smith, Director of Residential Care at Kenwith Castle Country House CareThank you for your lovely review. We're so glad to hear your dad is happy and thriving at Kenwith. Your kind words mean so much to our team. We're delighted you enjoyed the Christmas celebrations too.

My Mum has been a resident here for 3 years.
This lovely home was our first choice for Mum.
Lovely, clean, safe and well-managed. All the staff are amazing and always there for Mum and us.
We wouldn't want her to be in any other home.

My father has been a resident at Kenwith Castle Country House Care since May 2024, firstly for respite care and then permanently.
He has been so well looked after since day one. The staff are amazing. They pass his door every few minutes, with always a wave, a hello and a smile. His quality of life
has improved dramatically, from seeing very few people to being part of a community.
Yesterday, Christmas Day, we visited in the morning to find a wonderful homely atmosphere, with all the staff making us feel like a family.
I am so sure that Dad is in the best place, with the best possible care.

My Mum came to Kenwith Castle for respite care after having a hip replacement. She also has mild dementia. She was more confused after the operation. The staff have been excellent in making my Mum feel comfortable relaxed and at home while staying at Kenwith. It was exactly what my Mum was looking for
and needed after the operation. Her room has a great view of the lake. Our family has really enjoyed visiting and using the facilities like the pub and the coffee shop. Their facilities make visiting fun. My mum loved all the social activities on daily.

I moved to Kenwith Castle a month ago having lived independently up until then. I feel there are more restrictions than I thought there would be, however, understandably this is to keep others safe. Having the grounds has been a positive experience as I go round on my scooter multiple times a day. I
really look forward to the weekly quiz and crossword activities. The carers and staff are really friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble. I feel very settled here.

Kenwith is a lovely care home in a beautiful setting. My mother stayed here for a short respite break and was very well-cared for. All of the staff, without exception, that we encountered were very kind, friendly and professional. They responded promptly to my mother's needs and treated her with respect
and as an important individual. My mother returned home in a much improved mental and emotional capacity. Thank you to all of your lovely caring staff.

I am being cared for with both due diligence and patience. Both by night and day. Nothing is too much trouble. The hospital and re-habilitation centre could learn a lot from the example of patient experience at Kenwith Castle. I am most grateful to all concerned - cheers! I do not have enough experience
to grade as to value for money - sorry.

My parents told me how friendly many of the staff were, and how they made Mum hot drinks in the middle of the night when she couldn't sleep.
Early on, the food was lovely and they enjoyed having a 3-course meal. However, for Sunday lunch a couple of days before they left the beef was tough and they
were not offered a starter or dessert.
Reply from Phil Smith, Director of Residential Care at Kenwith Castle Country House CareThank you for your review, it's lovely to learn how fond your parents were of our team at Kenwith Castle. Regarding the Sunday lunch, I will pass your feedback on to the catering department. Many thanks.

When my mum moved to Kenwith a year ago, after suddenly finding herself wheelchair-bound, she struggled to adjust to the loss of her own home, independence and mobility. She had always said she would never go into care and it hit her hard. The kind and supportive care team have gone above and beyond
to help her to settle in, and to allow her as much independence as possible and people remark on how well she looks now. Lately she is much more cheerful and has made friends, and she loves the geese, peacocks and nature outside her door. She speaks highly of the carers who always seem to go the extra mile for her and stop to chat when they can. The home is clean and always smells fresh, and I am so grateful to know she is safe and well cared for.

Mum has been cared for with dedication and sensitivity right from the first day. On the day she moved in, she was given a warm welcome and efforts were made to make her feel at home. Her preferences were noted and a flexible approach has been taken to ensure that she is comfortable and feels at ease
for instance, she can have a lie in if she wants to and can have her meals in her room rather than having to join the other residents. The staff always seem to have time to sit and talk with her. Standards of cleanliness are high. There is a good variety at mealtimes. Mum says if I can't be at home, this is the very best place to be.

Mum has now been at Kenwith for 9 months and has received the very best care. Her health is now better than it was, both physically and mentally. She loves all the activities of which there are many provided. The care during lockdown has been outstanding. The home ensured that myself and my brother
had a skype call every week. All the staff are wonderful and so caring. 6-star rating.

Dad was very happy at Kenwith, initially for respite and then for permanent care. He loved the activities and we were delighted to be able to have Skype calls during the COVID-19 lockdown. Dad's end of life care was compassionate both for him and his family. I would recommend Kenwith to someone looking

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.798)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.798) out of 10 for Kenwith Castle Country House Care is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.798 for Kenwith Castle Country House Care is calculated as follows: ( (246 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 307 Ratings = 4.798
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kenwith Castle Country House Care is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
