Over all time The Lodge has 93 reviews.
From my point of entry, my needs and care were assessed and met. All the staff showed care and kindness in every task including very private and personal care. The atmosphere at The Lodge is a cross between a four-star hotel and a family home. The food is excellent and always served well, taking into account people's likes and dislikes. The activities are geared for the enjoyment of the clients. The management team have also been helpful in my aftercare.
This is a super review and I thank you so much for it. It was a pleasure to have known you for the short time you were at The Lodge and please pop in any time you can. You will always be welcome.
The care she received at The Lodge was first class.
Everyone we dealt with was kind, considerate and thoroughly professional. I could not speak more highly of them.
Thank you for this amazing review - we even got to enjoy mum's birthday party whilst she was with us and I wish mum all the very best for the future.
Since my mother-in-law has been here, I have been extremely impressed by the management and all the staff. Nothing is too much trouble and the home is a wonderful environment for anyone to live.
This is a super review from my resident's family - thank you so much. It is great to know that we are getting so much right for residents and families.
I am so thankful that the Lodge had a room available for the last ten weeks of my mother's life. The staff did everything possible to make her comfortable as the inevitable end approached. They were caring and compassionate with strong leadership from the top. I was never made to feel a nuisance for asking questions and seeking out answers. Every request was met with a positive response "yes we can do that" is their creed. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Lodge to anyone seeking first-class care for their loved one.
My thanks also to you for choosing The Lodge for mum to spend her end of life.
Debbie.
I lived in the care home for 3 weeks convalescence following a lengthy stay in hospital. I felt safe and secure in a most welcoming environment. The staff were always cheerful and helpful which made me feel well cared for. I quickly felt and looked so much better. The food was excellent and well presented and I was able to have my hair and nails done and an assisted bath. My thanks to everyone at The Lodge.
I hardly recognised you Mrs V, after my annual leave so I know there was a wonderful improvement from when I left!
Relatives are warmly welcomed, the staff responding to queries and suggestions. My wife has made good friends, is content and well looked after.
Requests for attention to aspects of her care are readily received but just occasionally the messages are not always relayed and effected in a timely manner. The activity programme is varied and interesting, presented by a lively imaginative individual. My wife has found things to stimulate and interest her for much of the time. All in all a very good, well-run care home.
My thanks for this review and I apologise if there was any delay in communication, we will always endeavour to put this right and learn. It has been a complete pleasure to have known you and your wife and you have both been invaluable with comment and social interaction.
My husband has settled in well and been happy for the last five months.
Thank you for your review. We always try to do our very best for residents, from rooms to food and drink and for welfare in general. It is a pleasure to have your husband with us and to know the family.
My father was a resident at The Lodge for 11 months. During that time he was always treated with the utmost respect by all the staff in the home. He was nursed with such care as he became more frail in his last few months and always looked comfortable. My brother and I will always remember the support we were given and the compassion shown as Dad peacefully slipped away at the age of 96. I am so pleased I chose The Lodge for my Dad.
This is a great review and I thank you so much for it. The resident and family mentioned in this review became part of The Lodge ‘family’ to all of us.
Without exception ALL the staff were superb. They were attentive, respectful and professional at all times.
Thank you for the super review - it is much appreciated. We miss your father very much - nobody telephones me so many times a day as he did!
This was the best decision. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming to both my father and his family. The surroundings are clean, light, and feels very homely. My father was kept comfortable and well looked after during his final days.
With so many social events, great menu choices, lovely gardens and friendly atmosphere, I just wish my father had moved in a lot earlier.
Thank you to all the staff.
Thank you so much for this review - it was a pleasure to have looked after your father and to have met his family. I too, am sorry that we didn't meet earlier. Thank you again.
The end of life care exceeded even our high expectations; not only did my mum receive outstanding care to the end but the staff also cared for my sister and I as we spent the final days at her side. Food, hugs and space were given as needed, making an incredibly difficult, sad time more bearable.
Thank you for this review. We all enjoyed your mother and her family at The Lodge and will miss them all. It is so satisfying to understand that we did a great job in every way.
My father spent the last 9 months of his life at The Lodge. During the time he was there he was well-cared for and treated with dignity and respect. The staff were caring and professional and also showed him kindness and affection. He had a lovely room with ensuite bathroom which were always kept spotless and great care was taken to keep his clothes and possessions clean, tidy and safe. The Lodge provided a variety of interesting activities for residents to socialise and were always welcoming to any of my father's friends and family who visited.
Thank you for this review. We strive at all times to ensure the utmost privacy, kindness and respect, so important when a person is choosing a care home.
Since the day my mum was admitted to The Lodge I have been able to sleep! She was admitted at the end of June, the care she has received has been excellent. All the staff are friendly, caring and sincere with the residents and family! Standards of care, cleanliness, food, support, rooms etc., are outstanding.
The home is efficiently run with caring and considerate staff. At no time did I feel 'put upon' or 'a trouble' to the staff. Every effort is made to make residents feel that this is their home, that they matter and are in charge of their own destiny.
No shower in room. Another, male, resident entered my room in the middle of the night, I was sleeping at the time, he awoke me and I was very frightened by this experience.
The standard of the accommodation is very high and the food excellent.
I arrived at my home in a very bad way after a complicated operation and unable to walk. The carers were well trained and had to be told once how to move me. After 3 weeks I was allowed to start walking so there no holding me! Carers helped so much and never denied me help and encouraged me a lot. After 4 weeks I returned home, the only home in Exeter. I left feeling much better than when I went in. I had various medical problems, all well cared for by the nurses. Many thank. I may return!!
Most importantly he is very happy.
I think that could be to do with the delicious food and attentive staff!
An incredibly supportive and professional establishment offering high levels of skill, compassion, competency and standards. Leagues above the others.
'This is by far the best run care home I have ever encountered'. The standard of care provided is consistently excellent. On the first visit, I was immediately struck by the warm atmosphere of the place and close attention to detail. Staff always seem friendly and treat my mother with respect. I have also experienced good rapport with other residents. There is a great social calendar that accommodates individual needs well. The catering/dining are of equally high standard. My family had a very enjoyable lunch by invitation from my mother. Something that particularly impresses me is how standards on all levels are maintained regardless of which staff happens to be on duty. I visit my mother regularly but feel confident that she is in good care when I am not around. The Lodge is a jewel in the world of residential care and nursing homes.

Having trained as a nurse in Plymouth and achieving a BSc Hons degree in psychology a few years later, Deborah has been General Manager at The Lodge since 2006. Under Deborah’s leadership The Lodge attained an ‘Outstanding’ Care Quality Commission rating in March 2020, a reflection of the hard work and dedication of all staff and of the exceptional care provided to our residents.
In spite of working in several specialisms including surgery and paediatrics, elder care was to become a lifelong passion of Deborah, as shown by over 20 years in the care home industry. Remaining passionate about The Lodge residents and staff has never presented a challenge, as the role of General Manager is more than just a job – it becomes part of an extended family for many working there, as our long service records show.
