Richard and Stephen Hart have owned Hart Care since November 2010. At the end of 2020 and going into 2021, a significant amount of investment and improvement took place. This was to ensure the long-term safety of residents, and to help enhance care standards.

They admit elderly residents who need assistance and support to sustain a good quality of life. Their main focus is always the resident’s safety whilst ensuring choice and dignity are maintained.

They monitor care delivery, to check that it improves on an on-going basis. They recruit staff who buy into Hart Care's culture and who genuinely care for their residents.

The activities program is varied and allows residents to participate in a range of fun exercises, thereby helping to keep them interested and engaged. For residents who like being outside, they have a large, enclosed garden and are located within Dartmoor National Park.

It was with genuine sadness and regret that our father had needed to go into a care home after a short period of time in hospital. Hart Care showed absolute, care and dignity towards my dad and kept him safe and extremely well cared for in the last few weeks of his life, as his health deteriorated.
The staff were approachable, available and were not going through the motions of providing care-you could see that they visibly cared for their patients, including my father. Whilst we certainly do not celebrate the loss of our father, we are happy that he spent his last few days as comfortable as possible. We would wholeheartedly recommend Hart Care to anyone and it does prove that there are exceptional care and residential homes out there. This certainly isn't always the case, and we witnessed rudeness and indifference from other homes when we were discussing placement. Thanks, Hart Care for making a big difference to our family at a difficult time.

Having researched numerous care homes, my family and I were immediately impressed by the genuine desire to meet or exceed our expectations. The manager and all the staff have been more than generous with their time and quality of care support.
My mother has adapted quickly and happily to her new environment
and this is due entirely to the friendly welcome she received on entering the home.
The facilities are of a very high standard with a well equipped and comfortable room. The home has a large lawned area for relaxation and organised events weather permitting. The menu choices are always varied, prepared to a very high standard and always adaptable if required.
We cannot recommend this care home highly enough and it has been a great relief to find a residential care home in which my mother is so comfortable and at ease with her situation.

I would like to say what a lovely home Hart care home is. My mum is in there at the moment for respite and has been made very welcome. The carers are lovely and she has settled very well. The manager has been lovely, she has sorted out care for my mum and is always very helpful. I would recommend Hart
care home to anyone .

My mum was a resident of Hart Care for approximately 4 years, sadly she passed away a few weeks ago.
My mum had suffered a severe stroke 4.5 years ago which left her disabled and unable to speak, but she was still mentally alert. It was a challenging and worrying time for all involved. The staff at
Hart Care did a wonderful job of getting to know my mum and caring for all of her needs. I felt confident that my mum was safe and in good hands.
At times some of the staff have gone above and beyond expectations and communication between the home and myself has been excellent.
The home serves great food and the hygiene is top notch. My mum had a lovely, bright, airy room overlooking a beautiful garden.
I would thoroughly recommend Hart Care to anyone looking for a home for a loved one.

My mother became a resident of Hart Care in 2015. She sur=ffered a stroke which meant she was unable to speak or use her right side. The staff at Hart Care got to know her personality and provided her with wonderful care and support up until her recent death on October 6th. My brother, sister and I
cannot thank the staff enough for their dedicated work in making my mother comfortable in her final days. The staff and standards st the residential home are to be highly commended and we would not hesitate to recommend the home to anyone who is looking for a place which can be trusted to provide first class care for a loved one.

The short time my dad was with Hart Care he was well cared for. Physically his needs were met to an outstanding 100%. Thank you so much for that.
The reason his stay was so short was due to the family not happy with his needs not being met psychologically due to the quiet environment, no activities
and also there never seemed to be any staff visible in the communal areas, therefore he moved to a home with more stimulus.

When I arrived on 15th September 2017, I was pleasantly surprised by the standard. The bed was good and I was impressed by the tablet service. I was used to taking them from the dispenser.

I have found the staff to be friendly and easy to talk to, home is always clean, warm and welcoming.
My mum enjoys the food provided.
The general care my mum receives following her stroke has been really good, due to my mum's lack of communication they have been able to find out what is the matter/What
she wants.

Hart Care have shown great flexibility for a personalised approach to my fathers care
It is this partnership between the home and the family that sets Hart Care apart. The staff and courteous and caring towards both residents, friends and families. We have been given the freedom to create a homely
atmosphere in my father's room and an adjacent exterior area. This allows for a pleasant atmosphere for both residents and crucially their visitors. As such, I believe it has helped my father maintain relationships within the inevitable, institutional framework. On a more practical note, the catering and housekeeping seem to be excellent and my father has put on weight
since his arrival and always has a good supply of beautifully ironed clean shirts. Under the difficult circumstances of his current health we all very much hope my father will be continue to be able to spend his last years within the peaceful surroundings of Ravenscroft, Hart Care. Highly recommended.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.516)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.516) out of 10 for Hart Care Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.783 for Hart Care Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (84 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.783
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.733 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hart Care Residential Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.8 = 0.833
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
