My partner had the misfortune to develop Altzheimer's a number of years ago and at first care was arranged with a private caring team which did a good caring job of looking after all of her requirements and I cooked her a substantial meal in the evenings, until her dimentia became so advanced that her
sons and myself came to the conclusion that she would need around the clock care. The wheels were set in motion and enquiries were commenced. Eventually, my partner's sons informed me that she had managed to secure a vacancy at Queen Charlotte Care Home, which was quite local for all of us ,so good for visiting my partner. At first I was a little concerned that she wouldn't settle in very well, but in a short while, she seemed very happy, I'm sure this was because the staff having such a friendly manner, I visit my partner a minimum of 3 days per week and have always found the carers pleasant to residents and visitors alike, There is a wide programme of entertainment including live music.

Dad was admitted following a fall at home and a short time in hospital at which point his Vascula Dementia became very evident and 24/7 nursing care was my only option for him to keep him safe. QC more than happy to accommodate Dad and he lived there for three and a quarter years. At first Dad was
very confused, very unsettled and difficult to get settled. The care staff were very supportive to both Dad and myself and as the months passed and his Dementia advanced he became much easier to care for and easier to visit and spend time with. Dad would spend periods relaxing in the communal lounge area, watching television and participating to the best of his ability in the many activities that were delivered by the staff. Dad loved his food but at times had difficulty feeding himself so someone was always on hand to help him enjoy his meal times. Dad was extremely well cared for during his time at QC which assured me that I had nothing to worry about! Dad was safe! Thank you QC.

Mum was originally admitted for respite following a fall and pelvic fracture in which she lost her mobility - it was an incredibly hard decision as we had built an annexe but it was clear she needed around the clock care. As a family, it has given us so much peace of mind to know she is wonderfully
cared for, eats well, and is constantly part of the daily activities keeping her mind active and her spirits up which is so important. She has made lovely friends and the staff are incredible. They go above and beyond and there is a genuine family atmosphere. Mum has done so much since she has been there with a wonderful arrange of activities - singing, creative arts, donkeys visiting and even a garden centre trip! This would never have been achievable at home. Her dementia means she can sometimes forget and get anxious but there is always someone on hand to reassure her and spend time with her. It means now I can spend quality time each day with her. Thank you QC - you have been amazing!

It was a big decision to move Mum into care...at 102 she is still pretty amazing but her sight very poor which causes her anxiety. I have to say the quality of care she has received has been nothing short of exceptional. Almost all of the staff have done something over and above their job to help ensure
mum settle in, not in response to a request, but unprompted using their experience and initiative....the night staff who sat outside her door to ensure if she started to wander she could be guided quickly, to the nurse who stayed on beyond her shift to ensure when I brought mum back in from a trip I had support to settle her back in if I needed it, to the residents they buddied her up with to give her confidence and to haveclunch with not forgetting the amazing activities team who quickly saw she had the potential to be one of the "front row ladies" and yesterday arranged both a lunch and afternoon entertainment to celebrate her birthday....they even found a card with 102 on it...!!

My Dad has been a resident at Queen Charlotte (QC) since August 2024. My Mum was a resident as well in 2018. It was my Dad's choice that if he ever needed to go into a nursing home then it would be QC. What a wonderful care home. But what quintessentially makes this possible is that all the staff
who work there go above and beyond to make QC a lovely Home to be living in. The residents are well cared for and they have a busy daily schedule of activities to take part in. The Chef cooks delicious home cooked meals, cakes and puddings are a delight. My Dad is content and always smiling and every time I visit I am welcomed into QC. Thank you so much to the Home Manager and all the QC Staff.

My dad is so happy. Laughing and smiling, he has put on weight, we have not seen him looking so happy eating and drinking well. The activities are amazing, lovely atmosphere in the care home, dad loves it. He has always been a people person, I think I take after him. I came to join dad for my lunch
on Boxing Day. The meal was so good and the dining room experience was so nice to have the party. The lift being fixed and signs being put up for the contractors not to park in the care home car park, so there was enough parking for relatives. I am so glad dad is at Queen Charlotte Care Home.

When we were invited to view the home for the first time the management team were very informative giving us all the information we were asking for, showing us the room Dad would be in, along with all other facilities and whilst walking round we were impressed with how friendly all the staff were, taking
time to talk to us about everything they do during the days to occupy the residents.
The residents have an exceptional menu choice each day and we noticed how kind and patient all the staff are with them all.
Another thing that impressed us was how clean the place was kept as well.
If you want a meal with your loved ones whilst visiting this can be arranged with notice at a very reasonable price.
Can't speak highly enough about Queen Charlotte Care Home and all the staff and we know we have found the home our Dad deserves to be in and looked after as we would want him to be.

Since Mum-in-law joined the family of caring staff, she has been in a much happier place. She joins in with the daily events and has much more company. She is a people watcher, so she loves it and seems to be very happy since joining. It had made hubby and my decision a lot more happier than we wanted
for her. May she continue to flourish for the rest of her stay. Thank you all so much.

This is an update review. My relative has been at Queen Charlotte for a year now. I am so happy with my choice as she is so well cared for. Mum has a medical condition. It’s very challenging to manage, and Mum can make it even more challenging, but I can not fault the nursing team and carers for their
kindness, compassion and dedication.
All staff are kind and caring. They treat residents like family and I observe genuine affection between them.
The home has a great activities team that provides crafts, entertainment and outings for the residents. Mum enjoys the activities, but she is never pressured to join in if she doesn’t want to.
The food is homemade and there is always a good variety. Always some delicious cakes available. Mum has put on weight since coming here, so that says it all. I am always welcome to come and have lunch with her too, in fact, I am always invited and included in anything and everything that is going on, which makes this place so welcoming and homely.

My friend was in the Queen Charlotte Care Home for quite a short while, just four short weeks when she finally lost a brave battle with cancer yesterday. Her brief but happy stay was due to the kind of person she was but also due to the kindness and care that she received. The beautiful garden helped
too, she was an outdoors sort of lady. While she was there I visited most days, so I met many staff. These are a happy group of people who not only care for the residents but extend their care to family and friends (even the four-legged ones). I really can’t thank them enough for their care, love and support and for the happy way they go about their very difficult job.

It's been very hard over these last three years, for both staff and residents. The staff have been marvelous in caring for all the residents, I cannot praise them enough. If I may make a constructive suggestion that you look at some kind of physiotherapy on a regular basis for residents. I think this
would make a world of difference, both to their mobility and also help staff with their care.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.782)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.782) out of 10 for Queen Charlotte Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.932 for Queen Charlotte Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (151 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 162 Ratings = 4.932
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Queen Charlotte Nursing Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
