At Ashley House, a caring and professional team provide personalised nursing and residential care, as well as offering convalescence, palliative, short stay and day care. As well as single occupancy rooms, there are six rooms which are ideal for couples.

Located in the picturesque town of Cirencester, the purpose-built home offers a high level of comfort and all bedrooms have en suite wet rooms and a 24-hour call system. The main lounge looks out onto pretty gardens and has comfortable seating for socialising, while a library and smaller lounge offer residents the opportunity to enjoy some quiet time.

Ashley House is committed to providing tasty and appealing food. The on-site chef caters for all dietary requirements and uses only fresh ingredients.

Residents have the use of an activities room while outings and musical entertainment are all regular parts of the activity programme, as is flower arranging and gardening.

On my last visit to see my mum I was greeted with kindness and warmth from the staff. I cannot fault the effort that goes into ensuring the residents are kept amused and entertained. It is very very heartwarming to know that Mum is being so well looked after.

Came here for 2 weeks Jan 5th to 19th 2023 to have help to rest my fractured left foot. Am in very pleasant second-floor room with ensuite and full board. 3 meals a day are fine with choice of menu in advance. Daily activities arranged every day except weekends. Shame no Sunday service arranged, although
I believe Communion is once a month. Afternoon and morning tea served and biscuits - very welcome. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Many staff from the Commonwealth, are very competent.

My father has been a resident at Ashley House since April 2021 and the staff I have had contact with have always been friendly, caring and considerate. It has been a hard time for everyone during the pandemic but I feel I have been kept up-to-date and they have stretched themselves to help ease a difficult
situation. There are activities which I see the residents really enjoy and some of them my father also joins in with and has fun - this makes their days feel less long. It is hard to lose your independence, and suddenly as with my father, but I feel they have helped ease him into a new routine.

I find that there is such a happy atmosphere and the staff go out of their way to make sure that the residents' needs are met with kindness. The food and rooms are both lovely. Staff arrange very nice activities for the residents who always look pleased to take part or sit to enjoy them.

My parents have been resident in the home for about six months and have settled in reasonably well thanks to the staff who are without exception kind, caring, cheerful, and always have time for them despite being very busy. There are a good variety of activities available to suit everyone. The food
is generally of a good standard.

My 95-year-old father has now been in Ashley House for three months and he is really settled, comfortable, and well looked after. The food is excellent and varied and the staff are very caring and considerate. Someone always finds time to speak to me when I visit and as covid restrictions have now been
lifted, I am able to pop in at any time. There is very good communication and any concerns are dealt with immediately.

When my mother moved into Ashley House Care Home we found all the staff to be most welcoming and helpful, very professional. The staff are very knowledgeable and aware of individual needs, accommodating the care required in a very respectful way. My mother has become very comfortable and relaxed in
the knowledge that her needs are being met and has settled in very well. Her room is very practical with plenty of storage space and a good bathroom. I would recommend Ashley House to anyone.

In the 2 years my relative has been a resident in Ashley House, she has always been treated with the utmost care and consideration, taking account of her wishes and needs. The staff are always positive and thoughtful - nothing is too much trouble for them (one of them even came in on her day off to
organise a family Zoom session!) As a relative, I have also found the staff very easy to communicate with and helpful if I have any queries or problems. It is a great relief to know that my relative is being so well looked after.

My mother came to stay at Ashley House between October and December 2021. The quality of care is excellent. The main thing that struck me is how kind everybody is, from the nursing staff through to management. Nothing is ever too much trouble: the staff give every consideration and work very hard to
make sure that the resident's experience is as comfortable as possible. The standard of nursing care is very high. Mum's room was small and fairly basic, with an ensuite with a walk-in shower. The facilities overall are good, but the appearance is a little tired - it could do with a facelift. Ashley House's location is very good - there is a hotel next door for coffee/lunch, and it's a fairly easy walk into the centre of Cirencester. Something else that struck my wife and myself is how the staff treat the residents, not just with care and compassion but also with time, to stop and have a chat. Bearing in mind how fiercely busy they are, this is impressive.

I am the 86 year old subject of this review. My wife (85) has become my main carer with quite tiresome responsibilities. To give her a break our daughter has taken her on a week's hotel holiday on the East Devon coast and arranged for me to spend some time - Mon 25th Oct to Tues 2nd Nov 2021 - in Ashley
House Care Home. Internally the home has the atmosphere of a comfortable country house hotel, catering for patients from mildly disabled (walking difficulty but capable of self-propulsion) to fully disabled and needing full-time attention of a personal carer. Mealtimes in comfortable surroundings with an excellent choice of fare. Bedrooms comfortable but would have preferred better standard bathroom facilities.

My husband's major complaint is the inconsistent bedtimes from 8 to 10. The worst is at 10 when he is just going to sleep or he is woken up. When the woman carer comes in - it is much earlier and better. Nursing care is excellent.

Initially, my parents went to Ashley House for 6 weeks' respite care, but they have subsequently become permanent residents. The staff are very patient and kind. They try to find solutions for every challenge, and nothing seems too much trouble - contacting the vet for their cat, bringing fresh flowers
from the beautiful garden to cheer up Mum, taking their hearing aids to the hospital audiology department to be repaired, making cups of tea for visitors. The 24-hour nursing care is very important for Dad's care, and the liaison with the GP nurse practitioner, who visits regularly, is first-rate. The staff keep us up to date with everyday matters and any changes and they encourage dialogue between the care home and family, which we appreciate. Mum particularly enjoys the activities, which help her overcome the isolation she felt with the pandemic and Dad's illness.

My father enjoyed 3 years of living at Ashley House before peacefully passing away recently at the ripe old age of 95. He was extremely well looked after by a caring team with whom he often shared a laugh and a bit of mutual teasing, and even a game of cards which he loved to play. He liked the food
(which is saying something for a fussy eater like him) and had a nice, comfortable room with many familiar possessions which he had brought down from his apartment in Yorkshire. As a regular visitor, I was also made very welcome, and the staff were particularly kind and caring in his last few weeks, something which I greatly appreciated. I would very much recommend Ashley House as a good home for any senior citizen!

My mother who has recently passed away resided in Ashley House for almost three years, and was always treated with care, respect, and consideration. She was very happy there and enjoyed all the activities that were provided. All of the staff are polite friendly and caring and made every effort to make
my mother happy and comfortable during her stay there. Because I live in France I have been unable to visit her due to covid, however, the staff has made every effort to enable me to stay in regular contact via Zoom. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone.

My gran lived at Ashley House for the past few years until her sad passing at the grand old age of 98! She was cared for extremely well.
Her room was lovely and had a home from home feel, with lots of personal touches. We could visit Gran and take her out to the gorgeous gardens or in the comfortable
lounge. There was always lots of activities for the residents to do, Gran especially loved having her hair and nails done!
During covid, we were unable to visit, but the staff set up regular zoom calls which enabled the whole family to see Gran, from as far away as Australia!
We are so grateful to all the staff at Ashley House for all their care and dedication.

Hello, my name is Kim and I am the home manager at Ashley House.


I joined Bupa in 2008 and all of my experience in care has been within this organisation. Bupa is a company I can honestly say I am proud to work for.


I have enjoyed many roles over the years as I have worked my way up to home manager.


I lead with a ‘person-centred approach’ putting residents at the heart of everything we do. I love that no two days are the same when you are working in a care home. Along with my wonderful team, I strive to achieve the absolute best for those in my care.


I am very family orientated, having a young daughter who loves to come into the home, with other staff members' children and interact with our residents.

Annie Ruddick

I am the Resident Experience Manager for Ashley House, I have worked with Bupa for several years now and consider Ashley House as my home too. I am passionate about how we care for the elderly and how we, as a company, can engage with the ageing local community around us.


Originally from London, I have spent the majority of my working life in a customer-focused role including three years as a care assistant and my ethos is to provide, maintain and deliver an outstanding service to all of my residents.


Our values are quite simply to ensure that you or your loved one are treated with respect, dignity and kindness in a safe, friendly environment, where nothing is too much trouble.


Independence is promoted and activities are catered to suit individual interests that we then try to encourage others to take part in and enjoy too. Baking cookies I have to say are my favourite … the smell is intoxicating but they don’t last long!


Arts and Crafters and Biscuit Bakers are more than welcome to come and stay with us.


We are perfectly located in the heart of Cirencester to enjoy its outstanding architectural beauty, retail therapy and abundance of coffee shops to tell everyone that you have visited, though my coffee pot is always on and won’t cost you anything!? But of course, nothing beats a nice stroll through the Abbey Grounds on a bright day.


I very much look forward to meeting you and your family to show you around our beautifully refurbished home, where friendship, kindness and understanding are standard practice twenty-four hours a day.

Hello, my name is Sharon and I am the activity coordinator. I have worked at Ashley House since 2018. I am passionate about my role - it's great to spend quality time with our residents, helping them to settle in and getting to know their family members and friends. From spending time on a one-to-one basis, chatting about the good old days, trips to the pub, playing games, doing puzzles, quizzes, baking or gardening, I am able to help our residents continue enjoying some favourite pastimes and hobbies and occasionally introduce them to some new ones. I enjoy making our residents smile and take comfort knowing that they are enjoying life at Ashley House.


When I am not at work I rescue and foster rabbits, and enjoy water sports and gardening.

Sarah O'Gorman

Job Title: Receptionist Joined: 2003

My name is Sarah, I am the receptionist and I have worked at Ashley House since 2003. My role is really important, it’s not just about answering the phone politely or opening the door with a smile. It’s about building trusting relationships with our residents, their family and friends. To listen and help with the little things from booking a taxi, making an appointment with the hairdresser to comforting a resident who is lonely or worried. Fortunately, as I come from Birmingham I am always ready for a chat, once I’ve put the coffee on of course! I really enjoy my job, no two days are the same and I love helping people.

Georgia Davies

Job Title: Care Assistant Joined: 2021

Before joining Ashley House, I studied health and social care at college. Living locally, I already knew about Ashley House as my sister worked there.

I love helping our residents and making them smile.


I live in Cirencester, if the weather is nice it’s a lovely 10-minute walk to work through the Abbey Grounds, but if it’s raining, I call on my Dad to get me to work on time. I love walking and I am really interested in music so I’ve always got my earphones in when I’m out on a trek. I also like to keep fit so I am a member of my local gym.


I enjoy spending time with my family, I have 7 nieces and nephews who keep me busy when I am not at work.

Julie King

Job Title: Finance Administrator and Part time Receptionist Joined: 2006

I joined Bupa 17 years ago in 2006 as a weekend breakfast assistant. Since joining I have tried a few different roles; working as a laundry assistant and a hostess before becoming the weekend receptionist - a role I still thoroughly enjoy along with a job share as the Finance Administrator.


Before Bupa, I worked as an insurance clerk for over 20 years. When I was made redundant, I fancied a complete change of career. Living locally I had heard lots of good things about Ashley House and when a role became available I jumped at the opportunity to work there.


I love being able to help people. I have often needed to help myself and find it’s a good way to give back.


I have one daughter and 2 wonderful grandchildren who fortunately live locally so I get to see them very often. I also have 2 lovely cats, Alfie and Isla who are just the best company. When I am not at Ashley House or with my family, I can be found on a train! I love a train journey to the seaside. My favourite trip took me to Weston Super Mare, a place very close to my heart. I would love to take the Swindon to Penzance train one of these days.

Pauline Baldwin

Job Title: Housekeeper Joined: 2004

I joined Bupa in 2004 and have been in this role for almost a year. I first joined Bupa as a kitchen assistant, but as a qualified chef, I soon picked up the role as the 2nd chef, and when the opportunity arose, I was promoted to catering manager. A role I thoroughly enjoyed for many years, but I just fancied a complete change of direction within the home and jumped at the chance to become a housekeeper.


Originally from Yorkshire, I moved to Cirencester in 1993 to be the Chef de Partie for an established hotel. Having spent many years working unsociable hours, the opportunity arose for me to join Ashley House. This gave me the opportunity to provide excellent quality, nutritious meals for the residents in the home and gave me some work/home life balance.


I am lucky enough to work with some really great people, I have made friends and I enjoy helping the residents that live at Ashley House.


I live in Cirencester, it’s a lovely 10-minute walk through the Abbey Grounds, which is just the best start to my day. I am engaged to Fred, and we are looking forward to tying the knot next year. I love going back to see my family in Yorkshire, and when I am not working, I like watching Rugby League. I am an avid Leeds Rhinos fan. I also enjoy reading, socialising and creating heartwarming meals for my family.

Job Title: Kitchen Assistant Joined: 2013

I had a pastry chef apprenticeship working for various restaurants when the opportunity arose to join Ashley House as a kitchen assistant. I was inspired by my granny Jean who used to work in a care home and said it was the best job she ever had, so I decided to follow in her footsteps.


I love helping our residents and talking to them when I get the chance. Being in the kitchen this isn’t always easy but when I do, I find it very rewarding and I am happily listening to all their stories, so much so that I don’t want to go back to washing up!


I live in Cirencester, I love spending time with my family and watching movies. My favourite film of all time is Titanic. I also love cats and hope to have one of my own soon.

Finley

Finley Tuckey

Job Title: Senior Care Assistant Joined: 2022

My name is Finley and I joined Bupa in September 2022, initially as a care assistant and now as a senior care assistant.


I was born and raised in Withington and I went to Swansea University to study Egyptology as I have a love and fascination for ancient history. My grandfather developed Alzheimer's which made me want to work in the care sector to try and understand him and his needs better.


I love making our resident's lives happier by doing anything I can for them during my shift. From helping with mealtimes, and running a nice bubbly bath to helping someone get dressed nicely for the day ahead. I would say I am a good listener and work well with my team to ensure the day runs as smoothly as it can. Our residents have varying needs and no two days are the same. I work with some amazing people who inspire me to be the best I can be.


I live in Cirencester and love spending time with my family. I enjoy going for walks and playing video games. I am currently saving up to visit Greece and Italy to get up close and personal with all the ancient artefacts I studied at University.

My name is Dr Okpala Emeka Franklin, originally from Nigeria, my friends and our residents fondly call me Frank. I have been working at Ashley House for 5 years. I joined as a Healthcare Assistant whilst I studied at the Royal Agricultural University for my PhD. I then joined a career development programme to become a Senior Carer. Working at Ashley House is interesting, supportive, encouraging and empowering and I am thoroughly enjoying my role within the home.

Job Title: Maintenance Operative Joined: 2021

After a brief stint in the Armed Forces, 24 years in the Household Cavalry, I spent the next 16 years in Warehouse and Logistics Management until going into property maintenance in 2021. I thoroughly enjoy making and fixing 'stuff'. I love my job at Ashley House as I can make people's lives and jobs easier, happier, and more comfortable. If I achieve this then I feel I've achieved my goal. I also have a passion for making chocolate brownies!
