St Benedict's Nursing Home provides residential, nursing and dementia nursing care within two separate units.

The vicarage is the nursing and residential care facility and for those with nursing needs who have dementia, there is the Deanery unit to cater for their needs.

The attractive period building, which was originally a rectory, is nestled within the attractive environs of Glastonbury, and houses 60 bedrooms; 30 of which are nursing and residential beds and 30 are dementia nursing beds.

Staff are specially selected to provide compassionate care services to all in their care; promoting dignity and respect at all times.

A menu of freshly prepared meals are made on site by the home's chef, who can cater to any special requirements of residents.

I will be forever grateful for the care given to my late father Anthony, known as Tony. He loved his time there and he got to know all the staff and felt really at home. They were all so lovely to him and treated him with great dignity, kindness and respect. My Dad loved making a joke and enjoyed telling
the staff all about his life and what he'd got up to in his past and had a real connection to some of them. Myself and my family felt very welcomed when visiting and couldn't fault his room, we were allowed to make it feel very homely with his personal belongings. It is with great sadness that I recently lost my Dad as he was loved so very much but we'll always remember St Benedict's with fondness and appreciation for how well my Dad was looked after. I would recommend this care home for anyone looking for their relatives.

Mum spent her final 2 1/2 very happy years being looked after by the caring and dedicated staff. Whenever we visited we were warmly welcomed with tea or coffee, in fact we felt like one of the family. There were always plenty of activities plus singalongs, magicians and mums favourite the owl obsession.
We would have no hesitation in recommending St Benedicts Nursing Home Ltd.

My brother was in the nursing home for just over six months, and during that time was given every care, attention, and utmost support and not only to him, but to us who visited throughout his stay. I would highly recommend this nursing home to anyone.

My daughter of 57 years has early-onset Alzheimer's disease and so being cared for with great kindness and consideration by all members of staff at St Benedict's.
This was also true in the care of her sister some years ago and I cannot speak too highly of the care for which I am extremely grateful.

Since my husband came to St Benedict's, although it's a long way for me to come, I could not be happier with the treatment he has received. The manager and staff are very helpful and considerate, obviously, my husband is borderline dementia and would rather be at home, he appears, on the whole, settled.

The care home staff from all areas are excellent and very compassionate and willing to tailor support for my mum who was admitted back in September 2024 with complex needs.
Nothing is too much trouble for them and they really try to make every resident feel welcome and engaged in very trying circumstances.
The facilities are clean and well-maintained and the standards of care are what you would expect for a loved one. I would thoroughly recommend St Benedicts Nursing Home to anyone who is considering placing someone there.

My mum was at St Benedicts (The Deanery). Over the last few days of her life the love, support and compassion both Mum and I received was outstanding, especially from two particular members of the care team. When I was sitting with Mum the staff came in to comfort me and to check that Mum was comfortable.
She had clean bedding and clean clothes every day and they even painted her nails. I would like to think that Mum was aware that she was having a manicure (she would have loved it!) and I can't thank them enough for this kindness. I was with Mum when she passed away peacefully and was comforted by Mum's special carer. No words can adequately say how wonderful the staff were at this sad time.
I hope and trust that the management and owner realise how lucky they are to have such a special, dedicated and wonderfully caring team who enabled Mum to enjoy the last 3 years of her life and for me to know that she was being so well looked after. I will always be in their debt.

Human Angels. In September 2023 my father was admitted to St Benedict's Nursing Home in Glastonbury after spending most of the summer at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. He left hospital with a very complicated diagnosis of 'acquired haemophilia', which is an incredibly rare and terminal condition.
Coupled with diabetes and dementia the challenge was going to be great. The care and attention at St Ben's was exceptional and we not only thank them for the care of my father, but also for the care and compassion we all received. My father passed away peacefully on, 17th November, 2023. It would be unjust to single out any individuals, as clearly the overarching culture at the home is outstanding. As a family, we cannot thank all of the staff enough for their care and support and we believe, they are 'human angels'. We look forward to returning for the anniversary celebrations, to drink with the 'angels', to our beloved Dad and husband.

Having to make a decision as to where to place a loved one when they are at their most vulnerable is one of the most traumatic and hardest I have ever had to make but I needn't have worried. From the very first time I visited St Benedicts, I knew Mum would be safe and well cared for. The whole team
at St Benedicts showed immense professionalism and the highest standard of care to not only Mum but the family as well. All the staff were amazing with Mum and they all saw past her illness and treated her with respect and dignity. Everything that could be done for Mum was done and nothing was ever too much. We were always greeted with a smile and made to feel like part of St Benedicts family. Communication between us and the staff was brilliant. We will never be able to thank everyone enough for the care they showed Mum in the last weeks of her life. We had peace of mind knowing that when we left her after visiting she was safe, happy and well looked after.

My Mum has been in this home for a few years now. We had a few little teething problems but management went all out to help with our problems it was just settling Mum into her new environment. But I would recommend St Benedict's Nursing Home to anyone, the staff has been brilliant with Mum and always

Right from the truly excellent kitchen staff, who produce such wonderful food 365 days of the year including Christmas Day, through to the fantastic cleaning, laundry and maintenance staff, for all of this I am truly gratified. But, to all the health care staff that care for my wife every day and night
with such love and attention to detail, pristine bed sheets and pillowcases and all the loving care that we all would wish for ourselves, I am so truly thankful to all these Angels that treat my wife with such love and respect. I must add my deepest thanks to all the nursing and management staff, the kingpins that function to make everything run so smoothly for us to enjoy every single day.

My grandad spent a number of months last year in the Vicarage Unit at St. Benedicts Nursing Home. When I visited the staff were very friendly (Grandad knew them all by name including the non-care staff) and offered me tea or coffee on arrival. Grandad’s room was clean, as were the lounge and dining
areas. The home always smelled fresh! The food looked really great with a large variety of meals, sometimes themed. This was an important part of Grandad’s day. Whenever our family needed an update on Grandad the nurses were easy to talk to and were always honest and professional. I would recommend St. Benedicts all round but particularly for their end-of-life care and clear attention to dignity. We thank all of the staff so much!

My father moved here just over three months ago from a care home in Manchester so that I could visit him more frequently. The transition went well. Dad is very happy here and I have found all the staff very welcoming and friendly. The nursing staff are very professional and I feel he is being closely
monitored in all aspects of his health and care. The activities staff also are very good at giving him attention and the carers are diligent, caring and considerate. I can tell that all the staff are happy in their work.

My brother is really looked after and staff and management are very friendly. I could not look after my brother at home any more, now I feel like a sister more than a carer. He likes staying in his room and watching TV. The lounge is very nice and there’s a lot going on there.

My father-in-law has been in St Ben's for a few months. He is eating well and seems to enjoy his food. His wife joined him for Christmas dinner. His room has had his personal touches added which makes it very homely.
The care staff are very kind, attentive and respectful of his needs.

Warm and friendly environment. The staff are all very friendly and provide an excellent level of care with a lot of empathy. A good level of activities are provided which are well supported by staff and residents. Food is good, with choices available to suit personal preferences.

My husband spent the last nineteen months of his life at St Benedict’s; he was treated with kindness, dignity and respect at all times until his passing. I found St Benedict’s to be very supportive at such a difficult time, especially supporting me as well. I will be eternally grateful.

My mum moved into The Deanery in June 2023 at the most stressful time of my life. I had looked at several other nursing homes for her, but as soon as I visited The Deanery, I knew it was the right place.
She is beautifully cared for with dignity and kindness.
All the staff are very professional,
kind and friendly.
Her room is basic but comfortable, and everywhere is spotlessly clean.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend St Benedict’s to anyone.

Ann originally trained to become a Registered Nurse at the Charing Cross Hospital in Fulham, qualifying in 1986, and worked across a range of disciplines before relocating to Somerset in 2003. She joined us full-time in 2008.


She says: "I realised how much I enjoyed working in a nursing home environment and making a difference to the residents living there - I so love hearing our residents laughing. For me, the key is dignity, independence, respect for our residents – and having them enjoy their lives."


When not at work, Ann enjoys walking her dog, running, swimming, eating “posh nosh”, spending time in Cornwall and travelling around the UK in her VW camper van, holidays abroad, watching F1 racing and birds, and watercolour painting.

William

William Merivale

Job Title: Assistant Operations Manager Joined: 2016

William has been with us since 2016. He previously worked in further education as a lecturer and sports coordinator.


He says: “What I love about coming into work is the sense of teamwork among our amazing staff. We work so closely together, and they make me feel proud. They all represent the homes so professionally. They’re doing a job they love and it shows! Another highlight is celebrating milestones with residents, their families and friends and the best part, by far, is sharing wonderful words of praise and gratitude about our staff.”
Outside work, William enjoys all sports – both watching and playing. He also loves watching his children play sports and "encouraging" them to watch it with him.

Philip

Philip White

Job Title: Operations Manager Joined: 2003

Philip started working full-time at St Benedict's in 2003 but previous to this worked in the kitchen at weekends washing up from the age of 16.


Philip is the son of David White, who established the business in 1984 alongside his father, Philip's grandfather Leslie.


In his 20 years at St Benedict's, the home has increased in size from a 38-bed nursing home to now a 60-bed nursing and dementia nursing home.


He says: "At the heart of the care we provide is our commitment to providing a relaxed and nurturing home-from-home environment for our residents and ensuring they retain a genuine connection with their friends and families and local communities. This is what makes our homes special and our work so rewarding.”


Philip has always lived locally growing up in Wells, Somerset where he now lives with his wife and 2 Daughters.

Bonnie

Bonnie Frear

Job Title: Quality Assurance Manager Joined: 2023

Bonnie is responsible for overseeing all three of our homes, supporting the managers and helping ensure overall quality, systems compliance, new care planning and supporting governance principles.


She joined us in 2023 after nearly a decade with a specialist dementia care home in Wellington, first as clinical lead for dementia care then as deputy manager.


She says: "Working in care is one of the most rewarding things you can do: knowing it’s in your hands to deliver the best quality of life for your residents and enjoying the variety of a working environment where no two days are ever the same."


A mother of two, Bonnie enjoys spending time with her children, her extended family and her dogs.

Peter

Peter Hansraj

Job Title: Deputy Home Manager Joined: 2025

Peter has worked in the care sector for 37 years, both with the NHS and in the private mental health sector.


“Dementia care is a specialism which is less well understood than many, and it’s a condition for which there is currently no cure, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make an important difference to the lives of those we support. Every day is a learning opportunity, both for myself and the rest of my colleagues: we learn from each other and we learn from the residents. It’s such a rewarding environment.”


Outside work Peter enjoys gardening, the company of his ginger cat Lego, travelling and keeping abreast of world news. He and his wife, a counsellor and occupational therapist, have two adult children, currently both at university.
Peter’s previous roles have included orthopaedic specialist nurse manager with the NHS, and clinical lead in the private mental health sector at a specialist college for adults with brain injuries and learning disabilities.


His enthusiasm and cheerful personality are infectious, and with his natural teaching ability he is already passing on his clinical knowledge and expertise to staff in the home.

Linda Venn

Job Title: Administration/Accounts Joined: 2023

Linda has worked in the accounts field for 30 years and only started in the care home industry in November 2023. Linda has really enjoyed getting to know our residents and their families and can often be found having some fun with them in the communal areas, especially when there is music!


Linda enjoys knitting and crocheting in her spare time, along with time spent with her 2 cats, Floki & Minnie.
