My dad recently went into Mavern House to receive end-of-life care when his health deteriorated rapidly, and he could no longer continue to live at home. The home is a very special place, with a very welcoming and happy feel to it. All the staff were absolutely amazing, and the care and support they
provided to my dad was so heartwarming. He was treated with such kindness, dignity and compassion by everyone. We could not have wished for a better place for Dad to have been in the final weeks of his life. As a family, we are so thankful that we found Mavern House, and would highly recommend them.
Reply from Stephen James, Home Manager at Mavern House Nursing HomeThanks Carol for your kind words. It was a pleasure to have cared for your dad. I will pass on your kind comments and thanks to the wider staff team.

My late father was transferred to Mavern House from the hospital as end-of-life care was needed. Mavern House is a very special place and the care and compassion shown to my father, for his remaining days, will remain with me for the rest of my life. The management team and all of the staff treated
my father with genuine kindness and dignity. The communication was first class and I was kept updated at all times. This made a huge difference to our family and was a great comfort during a very difficult and emotional time.
Reply from Stephen James, Interim Manager at Mavern House Nursing HomeThank you for leaving us your kind review. It was an honour for the team to have cared for your father. We are pleased to have been able to offer your father and you, comfort and support during this time.

We found Mavern House online as we needed to find respite for dad. He stayed for three weeks over Christmas and New Year.
From our first phone call, the care and compassion shown to dad and us all was second to none. Any anxieties we had at leaving him were dispelled as we all felt he would be in safe
hands. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, and mum was invited for Christmas Dinner. Which she thoroughly enjoyed. The home itself is kept to a high standard, very homely and relaxing. You could be as involved as you liked with the afternoon activities. Dad benefited greatly from all the interaction.
I would not hesitate in recommending Mavern House to anyone.
Definitely five stars from us.

Last year, my Dad, who was struggling with vascular dementia, was taken to hospital after a stroke. He was largely left on his own and very soon became extremely distressed and depressed. Fortunately, we found Mavern House, which is close by. Mavern has a lovely, homely atmosphere and you can feel
the caring culture as soon as you come through the front door. The staff are all extremely kind, caring, and diligent. The Manager made it very easy for us to move Dad into his room and my Mum, who is now 83, was made to feel very welcome and join in with whatever activities were being arranged. The team took the time to help Dad get out of bed and socialise. Later, as he deteriorated, they took special care to make sure that he was not left alone and received the care that he needed. I am very relieved that we did not leave him in hospital and have no reservations in recommending Mavern and their lovely, caring team, to anybody.

I would like to thank all the Mavern staff for taking such good care of my father.
My father went in on respite care, and sadly he passed away in November, but the care he received could not have been better. Mavern is a very special place, and that's down to the dedicated and amazing staff that
work there. Everybody is just so lovely and so caring.
Not only did the staff look after my father and provide exemplary end-of-life care, but they also took care of us as a family at a very difficult time. We visited daily, and the staff always remembered our names and took the time to update us and keep us informed of any changes in my father's medical condition. In my dad's final days, they gave us drinks and food and showed genuine concern for us as well as our father.
As a family, we were so reassured by the excellent care he was given, and when end-of-life care was needed, the nursing staff were amazing. They treated my father with dignity and compassion. I cannot praise the staff highly enough.
Reply from Stephen James, Interim Manager at Mavern House Nursing HomeThank you, Alison, for your kind words; it was an honour and privilege for the team to have cared for your father and to have supported you all as a family. We hope you keep in touch with us all at Mavern.

Very caring staff who always made family welcome and treated my nana as family too. Always kept me well informed of how my nana was doing and her end-of-life care was personal and always so kind. The home had a friendly atmosphere, I was so happy my nana had her final years in this nursing home.

From our first discovery visit to Mavern House we knew this was the right home for Mum. The entire team at Mavern are welcoming and loving. Their primary concern is the welfare, happiness and quality of life of the residents.
Nothing is too much trouble and there's always an inclusive and fun environment.
Mum
has retained her wicked sense of humour after her stroke and the team at Mavern picked up on this straight away and have embraced it.
Mum's comfort zone is Mavern and that gives us comfort.
We are eternally grateful for the care, respect and genuine love for Mum that is given by all at Mavern.

My mum has been at Mavern for 5 years now following a severe stroke. The team treat Mum like family. She is very well cared for and loved by every member of staff there. Her needs are met and people take the time to know what her preferences are, what her interests are etc.
We couldn't have asked for
better care during such an emotional time.

Can't recommend this care home highly enough. My grandmother arrived in their care during lockdown and we have seen how fantastically the whole team worked together under all the restrictions to keep their elders safe. Now that those restrictions have mostly been lifted we can see the open home-from-home
community they strive to create. The whole team (nurses, carers, housekeeping, maintenance, kitchen staff and management) treat the elders they come into contact with daily with dignity and respect whilst welcoming family members to drop in whenever they wish. Couldn't ask for more.
Reply from Justine Old, Manager at Mavern House Nursing HomeMany thanks for leaving us a review, we always strive to ensure all our elders have the best-personalised care possible and that families have peace of mind. My father was a resident in Mavern for 15 years. He received excellent care from the date of his admission until he passed away in August 2022. The staff were caring compassionate and empathetic. My father (and the rest of our family) formed strong bonds with the staff. I can thoroughly recommend Mavern
House to any potential resident.

After lengthy family consultations and visiting a number of potential nursing homes within Wiltshire, we reached a unanimous decision for her ideal location and my mother become a resident at Mavern House in December 2021.
Since her arrival, the team have done their best to settle my mother into her
new home. Despite the then-prevailing Covid restrictions, we were able to appoint essential caregivers and ensure that she continued to receive regular visits; and we were able to have the reassurance of personal contact and interaction with her.
As the restrictions have reduced and our visits able to become more frequent, we were very pleased to see the consistent effort made to encourage and maximise the quality of her daily life.
The standard of care, welfare and communication with us provided by all the team throughout her residency has been excellent.
Mum has settled in well to a safe, welcoming community - together as a family, we made the right choice.

My 97-year-old nan transferred here nearly a year ago from another home. The positive difference in her is huge and with massive thanks to all the Mavern staff and the setting itself. She mostly keeps to herself in her room, which we have been able to decorate and move around to suit her, so it feels
homely and warm. All the staff, including maintenance and cleaners, carers nurses and managers know her by name and take the time to spend a while chatting with her (and us when we visit, which is a 2-3 times per week) to enhance her days. The setting is not traditionally medical/hospital-like and so it is homely, and the common areas feel more natural than other homes. Now Covid restrictions are over, we are able to sign ourselves in and visit at any time, which is reassuring that staff are confident there is nothing to hide away. Nan seems comfortable and happy and so we are delighted!

We cannot fault the care provided by every member of staff at Mavern House, it is so reassuring that dad is looked after so well despite the challenges that can come with caring for someone with dementia - from the minute we arrived with him we knew he would be safe and well cared for. The home keeps
in regular contact in between family visits, sending photos and assisting with video calls, and everyone is always friendly and approachable. The manager is fantastic, nothing is too much trouble for her and we are very grateful to everyone involved in Dad’s care.

My husband was treated with love and dignity and his general demeanour and good spirits seemed to confirm this. When visiting him I was always made to feel welcome and the ease of booking visits was appreciated by my family. Frequent updates as to my husband’s condition gave me confidence that his care

A very welcoming place, lots of activities for clients to participate in. Children come in regularly which is lovely, also the clients can see animals and pets, which is therapeutic for them. The care they offer people is kind, warm and compassionate. The menu looks delicious, even when it is for a

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.796)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.796) out of 10 for Mavern House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.896 for Mavern House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (165 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 183 Ratings = 4.896
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mavern House Nursing Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
