My Aunt moved into the Mavern in April 2025 following a move from her home town where she had been resident in another nursing care home. We chose Mavern, after visiting a number of other homes in the area, due to the friendly welcome and discussion with the manager. Although the home is not purpose
built, it has a warm and homely feel about it and has close ties to the local church, which we knew would be important for my Aunt. It also has all the amenities, facilities and specialist staff - including a lovely, professional team of nursing staff, that other nursing care homes have. The home has a team of activities staff who are extremely good at ensuring there are a wide range of activities on the programme daily. The team of carers are very kind and have time for the residents, trying to give the best daily life to each that they are able. There is a lovely enclosed garden where, in summer, the residents are able to sit and enjoy shade, fresh air and activities.

I wanted to express my appreciation for all the staff who worked on my Uncle's corridor. During his last 4 days and nights, I often found myself alone with him and his door slightly open. It was easy to hear everyone working and talking, both staff and residents.
At NO point did I ever hear anything
inappropriate or harsh. The staff were always incredibly professional, polite and respectful in everything they did. Amazing really, as they certainly appeared genuinely very busy! The home certainly had a relaxed air about it and I couldn't be happier with the care my Uncle received. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Mavern House to anyone who was considering living there.

My mother moved to Mavern last summer she has severe dementia but all the carers are wonderful with her
She doesn't always want to join in the activities but they try to encourage her and sometimes she does
We as a family are always welcomed with smiles and chat, it's like a big family
The nurses
are always on hand to answer any questions and are very caring towards mum
Nicky the activity leader is amazing lots of fun
Jo the receptionist is brilliant as well often joins the activities with the residents

I visited from Scotland for a week and was really impressed. The staff are brilliant and try to ensure that every resident can get involved in the activities, which are varied and enjoyable. This was coming up to Christmas and activities were very seasonal and everyone seemed to be looking forward
to Christmas. Staff are so kind and work extremely hard to ensure everyone's needs are met and more. A huge thank you to them all.

Both my parents moved to Mavern in November 2024 due to increasing frailty and were understandably nervous. My sister and I viewed a few care homes but none felt as homely and welcoming as Mavern. All the staff, regardless of their role within the home, bent over backwards to ease their transition and
they are genuinely caring and understanding. The whole team consider themselves Mavern family and are attentive and cheerful. The nursing staff and management are compassionate and have supported both of my parents through tricky situations. The enrichment staff go above and beyond to create a friendly, warm and cheerful environment in the shared lounge and the other residents respond to this by being open and friendly to everyone. There is no doubt that this is a stressful move to make but I can't recommend Mavern highly enough, they have been an absolute Godsend to our family.

My Gran has been a resident of Mavern for over 2 years now. She always tells me how well cared for she is and how much she likes the food (she put on a healthy level of weight when she arrived which was also fab). The team are super lovely and it is great all the activities they put on for the residents
and also encourge family and friends to participate too. It is so reassuring to know she is being looked after by everyone there. Thank you to all the staff.

Our 98 year old mother went to live at Mavern this summer. She is a very anxious, nervous person by nature but the staff made a great effort to settle her in. We are now 3 months down the line and she is happy, settled and enjoying Mavern life. She has the company of people around to chat to and the
comfort of her own room when she wants. The staff are so kind and genuinely caring, the activities are fun and have given mum a new lease of life. The nursing staff are professional and manage mum's various health problems with good clinical knowledge and empathy.

As a family, we have all been absolutely astounded by the care given to our Mum,Grandma, great grandma by absolutely everyone at Mavern House. They have all been so kind, showing genuine care for us all. As soon as we walked through the door the sense of
relief we felt that mum was going to be cared
for with tenderness and dignity was immense.
We couldn't have been happier with the whole experience.

Mavern House is welcoming, kind, compassionate and vibrant. Managers, carers, nurses, admin staff, cleaners and the kitchen staff all share the same ethos. Together they provide a personalised , nurturing and compassionate environment that is full of kindness and care. As a resident, my mother is treated
with complete respect, both as an individual, encouraged to enjoy and get involved in new experiences, but she can also opt out of any activity and just appreciate watching the world go by. Personally, being able to visit my mother at any time, use the facilities to make us a drink, bring in the food that she loves and decorate her room in any way, provides her with a real home. My mother has been able to have her first bath in over 10 years, get her hair done and nails treated. Everyone who knows the care home environment has provided me with glowing testimonials when they know where my mother lives. I have now been able to experience this myself and realise its the culture created by residents and staff that makes Mavern House special and fully deserve its reputation. I am whole heartedly recommend Mavern House as a wonderful care home.

An outstanding home. I visit a friend in the home and I am absolutely amazed at how wonderful all the staff are. They are supportive, kind and caring at all times. Nothing is too much trouble and they still remain kind, gentle and patient even in difficult situations. My friend stays in a beautiful
room which overlooks a small patio with squirrels and birds and can watch wildlife daily. This is one of the nicest nursing homes I've been in.
Such a lovely home with incredible staff.

The care at Mavern House is ideal for my father's needs. They have excellent experience of dealing with dementia and as a result, my father is calmer and much more himself than in his previous environment. The staff are professional, calm, compassionate and humane and, in my limited experience, the
care feels like the gold standard.

My mum has been staying at Mavern for four weeks so far as her bungalow is having work carried out due to potential subsidence.
She will now be staying for a lot longer and I am grateful that Mavern can continue to accommodate her. The management team have been very understanding and efficient, the
care team professional and the housekeeping team incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is varied, very tasty and cooked on-site. Mavern House feels very homely and a happy place to be. They allow us to bring the family dog in to see her which pleases mum immensely. A big, big thank you to everyone.

My mother resided at Mavern for her end-of-life care and the last 7 weeks of her life. As soon as we visited the home before she moved in I felt a sense of peace, serenity and calm. This matched the experience we had as a family once Mum moved into the home. The staff are all very caring, supportive
and warm; not only to residents but also to their families. My father also lived at the home for the last 3 years of his life 5 years ago. I would highly recommend Mavern as a home-from-home where preserving the dignity of residents and care is at the heart of everything the home does.

Always get such a lovely feeling when we visit the resident. It’s clear how much the staff care about the elders. Mavern House Nursing Home is an amazing home from home, cannot recommend it enough. Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.786)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.786) out of 10 for Mavern House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.861 for Mavern House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (170 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 194 Ratings = 4.861
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mavern House Nursing Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
