As a family member of a resident at Mavern I am continually impressed by the high standard of care provided by the team and the services they offer those in their care. In these difficult times, it's such a relief to know that my grandfather is receiving care, entertainment and companionship amongst
the staff and other residents. Despite the necessary restrictions in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the staff at Mavern have been incredibly resourceful and helpful in setting up safe, contactless meetings via video call to allow family members and residents the chance to stay in contact and to see one another without the risk of spreading the virus. I applaud every member of the team and the work they do. I believe they are a shining example of how a nursing home should provide care and I would encourage anyone considering such services to get in touch with them.
Reply from Justine Old, Manager at Mavern House Nursing HomeThank you so much for taking the time to leave this review for us Ryan, we are so pleased that you have been able to feel connected to your grandfather during this difficult time and that you have peace of mind about his care. We look forward to seeing you on video call soon!

On behalf of our family, we want to thank the entire Mavern House team/family for the loving care and attention given to my sister. From the very start, nearly 8 years ago, my sister was cared for in a compassionate and inclusive way throughout. Over these many years, we witnessed so many acts of kindness
from all of the management and team in every capacity. To say they all worked so far beyond the "call of duty" could only be described as an understatement. Sadly my sister passed away on the 4th January 2021. The outpouring of grief expressed by all of the team was, to say at least, heartbreaking. We as a family very much feel part of the Mavern family and will continue to visit covid restrictions permitting. Once again thank you, your care and love will never be forgotten
Love from us all.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Apart from being able to visit my elderly friend (resident since October 2020) either outside, and then twice in the pod, I am in a position to say how accommodating and kind staff have been on my visits. My friend has been highly praiseworthy of her room, the staff and most of the time of the food
she has been given. It has obviously been a very difficult and stressful time for all the staff during the past year but it seems that every effort has been made to make the residents feel comfortable and secure and staff have done their best to alleviate the inevitable frustrations of periods of isolation.
During the four months that my friend has been in residence, I get the impression of excellent management and communications, friendliness and genuine care. Not having been able to visit my friend in the normal way because of Covid, my ratings will mostly be "good" but I have little doubt of extremely high quality in all respects.
Reply from Justine Old, Manager at Mavern House Nursing HomeThank you for your feedback Charles, it is such a shame we have not been able to offer you true Mavern hospitality yet due to Covid restrictions but we look forward to welcoming you into the home 'properly' in the very near future.

As a family, we are so grateful for the kindness, compassion, and exemplary care the manager, her team, and all the staff at Mavern House have shown our lovely dad, and us as a family. It means the world to us to know that in these challenging and difficult times, they are doing everything they can
to keep our loved ones safe, happy and valued. Their ethos, care and compassion have made a huge difference to all our lives. Heartfelt thanks.

As a relative who has been visiting the home for many years, I have been made to feel very much part of the Mavern family and this has enabled me to see first-hand how the home is constantly evolving and always trying to improve the way it operates. Under the current leadership team, this process has
accelerated and has seen it run as efficiently as possible within the confines of what is an old, but lovely building and I always marvel at the care and genuine affection that many staff have for Mum. My opinion as a relative is often sought on ways further improvement can be achieved. The Elders at Mavern lead a good life and are stimulated as much as possible with many social events, activities and entertainment. I could not imagine Mum being anywhere else and as a family, we count our blessings that it was Mavern House that we chose. She has been so well cared for and there is no better place for her to spend her final years.

Mavern House is a truly wonderful, caring and kind community. I cannot fault it. I am continually amazed at the level of care delivered with kind friendship, charm, humour and grace by the exceptionally dedicated staff. They seem to be a host of true angels. My frail 93-year-old mother arrived in a
very fragile and poor state in 2019, after a bad fall and 6 weeks in hospital. She has been nurtured back to good health, surrounded by love and kindness, stimulated by new activities and regular company and she has a new lease of life which she is greatly enjoying. She receives tailored individual care. She is particular about her food and the chef is amazing at catering to her particular wishes.
Covid-19 has been managed brilliantly with no cases to date and I am full of respect and gratitude for what has been done to keep my mother so well and happy in such challenging times. Thank you to everyone at Mavern House.

My father has been at Mavern House for just under 1 year. I have only positive things to say about this outstanding nursing home. They are an extremely well-run team who genuinely care for their service users. The quality of my father's life has improved dramatically since arriving at Mavern House.
All the staff go out of their way to make my father really feel at home. He loves joining in on all the fun and varied activities. He’s made new friends and always seems really happy. My father is a very fussy eater and always comments about the lovely food (that says a lot for him to say that). In these difficult times, the staff have been supportive and have maintained a covid-free home. Their hard work and dedication to keep everyone safe and supported has been outstanding. I am happy to recommend Mavern House to anyone looking to put their loved one into a home. It really feels like a caring loving home.
Reply from Justine Old, Manager at Mavern House Nursing HomeThank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review Lynne, it is so helpful to receive feedback and great to know you are happy with Dad's care. We miss seeing you for visits and look forward to welcoming you back in once it is safe to do so.

My mother has now been a resident of Mavern House since April 2020 and I can only shower praise upon the completely dedicated staff for their wonderful care of her. Not only do they ensure she receives excellent food and first-class care but they also ensure her mental wellbeing is fully cared for.
The Enrichment programmes are wonderful and make life fun-filled and stimulating. The addition of the well thought out and constructed visitors' pod was exceptional and I look forward to when we can return for future visits. There Christmas/New Year programme of events made me very jealous but I was pleased that the residents had such a wonderful festive period. All staff at Mavern House make up an amazing team, regardless of position, but it obviously takes an excellent management team to produce excellence at all levels. I wouldn't want my mum to be anywhere else.
Reply from Justine Old, Registered Manager at Mavern House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your feedback Pauline, it is lovely to hear that you are so pleased with Mum's care. We look forward to being able to welcome you inside the home properly in less restricted times.

I was very impressed with the treatment received by my mother while she was living at Malvern House. She was encouraged to attend/participate in organised activities. All the residents that I saw/met while visiting my mother were relaxed and happy. The meals served were prepared in their kitchen and
were tasty and varied. Many thanks to all the staff.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.796)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.796) out of 10 for Mavern House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.896 for Mavern House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (165 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 183 Ratings = 4.896
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mavern House Nursing Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
