My dad has been here for over a year, and it is one of the best homes - we are so happy he is here. The staff on house group three are amazing and happy to help no matter what. They're like a big family. Management is amazing - any concerns they're happy to help. Overall, amazing.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for your lovely, kind and encouraging comments. It is an absolute pleasure to look after your dad. He is definitely a character that all the staff love and keeps us all on our toes with his witty comments. I will ensure your kind words are passed on to the staff.

My husband has been here over a year now and we can't find any faults in the home or the staff. My husband is being really looked after and it puts out minds at rest, the staff are very friendly and caring not only to my husband but to us as a family.
I wouldn't want my husband anywhere else.

I can not fault the love and care my beautiful father receives. I see how the staff are with him and the genuine care they have is amazing. Staff are always going above and beyond for my dad and I couldn’t ask for a better place for my dads end of life care. Your staff make it easier to walk away knowing
he’s looked after the way he is. Dad's main carers are a huge support to myself and they always keep me updated on his condition good or bad. I personally can not thank them enough because this current situation is by far the hardest I’ve ever found myself in. Keep up the good work guys.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you for such a lovely review, especially after all we have been through together in the last two years. The support we have received from yourself and your family has been overwhelming. It has been a pleasure looking after your dad and we are blessed to have him in our care home.

All I can say about Herondale/Kingfisher staff and carers is absolutely impeccable. They go beyond belief to show that much love and care for my brother. I have just come off the phone to the manager and I don't do crying but the care and love is unreal. I broke down with the love they all offer. The
most kindest love and regards.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for your beautiful comments. We are the lucky ones having your brother stay with us and all the fun and laughter he brings to our home. He is such a character. It is always lovely to hear families are happy with the care we provide and gives all of us a boost to keep doing what we love to do. Thank you again for your kind words and I will ensure all the staff are made aware.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our wonderful mother spent her last months as a resident at the Care Home. As a very close family and with the added stress and restrictions of the pandemic, this was a very worrying time for us. Mum was unable to leave her room because of her declining health but the staff made sure that she was comfortable
and well looked after. They were very understanding of her condition and very empathetic in their behaviour to her and us as her family. They listened carefully to all of our worries and understood our frustrations with the nationally imposed visiting restrictions. At the end of her life, Mum was surrounded by her family and we were impressed with the way we and mum were treated at such a personal and sad time. We would wholeheartedly recommend the home, the staff are wonderful and we are extremely grateful for the care mum had at such a vulnerable time of her life.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for this lovely feedback and for trusting us with the care of your mum in what was a very difficult time for you all. It was a pleasure to look after such a wonderful lady. It's lovely to know that family members can see and experience the care and dedication our staff have for our lovely residents. I will ensure to pass on your kind words to all the staff.

My brother was moved to Herondale without any consultation from the hospital or Social Services, we were appalled that he was 12 miles away from our home. We went to visit him in Herondale and if I am being honest we wanted him back closer to home. How things change, he was so settled and my emotions
ran away with overjoy. The manager and her team have won my brother's heart and my family's. They make you so welcome and in my brother's words "it's like being on holiday". I could have cried seeing him so relaxed and loved by a new family. Bless you all, you amazing people. You need recognition.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for your kind words. It is so nice to receive such positive feedback, from what for yourselves did not start out as the best experience. Your brother has been an absolute joy to look after and, if we are honest, we are the lucky ones to have had such a character join us. He has put a smile on everyone's face with his bubbly personality and witty comments.
I will ensure your lovely feedback is passed onto all the staff.

MHA Herondale & Kingfisher Yardley Green Rd Birmingham - a big thank you to all the staff for looking after my mom and dad during their recent stay.
We would like to single out a lovely staff member for excelling and going the extra mile, she was the first person we met when we moved Mom and she left
a lasting impression on us.
Sadly we lost Mom to pneumonia in February and this staff member kindly attended her funeral and helped to comfort and look after Dad.
We recently moved Dad to be closer to our home in Rugby and this staff member has been to visit Dad to see how he was doing.
This staff member is an absolute credit to MHA as she presents MHA very well indeed.
We would recommend.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for your lovely kind words. It was an absolute pleasure to look after both your parents, truly wonderful people. Your dad is a gentleman and was a very popular character with all the staff who were very sad to see him leave us but delighted he is doing well in his new home. I will ensure all staff are aware of your lovely comments.

Dad seems very happy. Staff are always kind and helpful. Through all of the pandemic, we have felt a little less worried because we know he is well looked after. Visits always go smoothly and staff are wonderful.

Dad's always well kept, clean-shaven etc. when we see him, we are pleased with his overall care. Every time we ring, the carers/nurses take time to give us an update on how Dad is doing which we appreciate as a family.

The care provided is very good. However, there is no communication about how my mom is and when we call to check on her are told she is comfortable - if we are unable to visit on days when no slots are available we would like more detailed feedback than this. My mom is unable to use her mobile so we
have no other way to contact her directly.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherWe’re sorry you’re not satisfied with the communication you are receiving regarding your mother on days you are unable to visit her in person, we know this is very important to know to put you and your family’s minds at ease. We will forward this to the nurse and care team to be more informative and detailed when calling for updates on your mother and hopefully this can resolve the problem you have been experiencing.

Although my sister would prefer to be in her own home, she has no complaints about staff, room or food, in fact, she is very complimentary about all three. This gives some comfort to her family to know she is being looked after.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherWe understand that everyone’s ideal situation would be to remain in their own homes but we are pleased that your sister is happy here with us and enjoys all aspects of life at Kingfisher & Herondale. We are happy that you and your family have comfort and peace knowing that she is receiving the best possible care.

Due to Covid-19, I have not been able to access the home, however, Zoom and telephone calls to staff and my mum has built my confidence that this is a good home. Trust has been given to third parties to ensure Mum is in the best place for her. Mum tells me her room and the food and lovely, and the staff
cannot do enough for her. I am pleased overall.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you, we are so pleased that you are confident and happy with your mum’s care and that she is settled and content. It’s brilliant that you have been in great contact with her through telephone and Skype as this is so important especially when getting into the home has been difficult due to the pandemic. Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.401)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.401) out of 10 for Herondale/Kingfisher is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.577 for Herondale/Kingfisher is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 175 Ratings = 4.577
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.824 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Herondale/Kingfisher is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 registered maximum number of service users is 15.8. 15 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.8 = 0.949
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
