Very efficient with Covid testing and in all ways of caring due to virus conditions. Very polite and helpful. Activities need to be renewed once Covid is over and more to be added to aid mental health in residents.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you for your review. It has been a difficult year but I am delighted that you have found us very efficient with Covid testing and caring. We will, of course, want to resume all of our activities as soon as we can. I will share your kind words with the staff team.

My uncle came into the home during the pandemic which made it really difficult for us as a family. All the staff have been very good both with my uncle and us, they have been very transparent with his wellbeing. We have been for lots of window visits and more recently internal ones. He seems to have
improved massively since arriving here and I'm sure as more restrictions are lifted he will continue to get better and stronger. They make sure he always looks smart and I know this is important for my uncle as he prides himself and is a real gentleman/war veteran.
Reply from Lisa Donnellan, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you for your kind words and lovely feedback and we will continue to work hard to keep the standards up. I will of course feedback to all staff involved.

Kingfisher has given my family total peace of mind when it comes to the care of our family member. The care and facilities are excellent. The facilities are clean and tidy and well maintained. Our family member is settled and happy with the service and care provided and staff are very caring and helpful.
The interaction between staff and service users is excellent.
The management and care team are very polite friendly and extremely helpful. My family and I would be happy to recommend Kingfisher to others for their excellent service from management to care staff.

My Grandad has been at Kingfisher for a short time but it’s clear how happy he is there. His room is lovely and kept nice and clean at all times. Both the care staff and the management have been fantastic during a time that was difficult for us all, they have made sure he has felt welcome and comfortable.
Reply from Heather Young, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for your kind words, it is always lovely when the hard work and dedication of the staff is recognised by family members. We pride ourselves on our warm welcome and atmosphere in the home. I really appreciate the time you have taken to submit a review.

An extremely welcoming home. We were initially worried about how my dad would settle in but we couldn't be happier. He is so content and settled and always has lovely comments about the staff who he says look after him so well, " they love to feed me up". Even though the situation with covid has made
visiting difficult, the home has made every effort to accommodate visits and it has been great to have been kept up to date with lovely pictures on their Facebook page.
Reply from Heather Young, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you for your lovely comments, it is always heart-warming when relatives see and feel the warmth of the home. I am very happy that dad has settled well and it is a testament to the staff of their caring ways.

This is a lovely home. The staff are welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. Any problems my husband has had have been dealt with kindly and very efficiently. I have found it a pleasure to meet the staff when I visit my husband.
Reply from Heather Young, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for taking the time to put forward your recommendation. My stepdaughter and I visited quite a few care homes before we found Herondale/Kingfisher. We were shown around the care home by a care home worker which pleased me. I didn’t want management showing us around, no disrespect to management but felt more at ease. The care worker answered all our questions
openly and we thought honestly. We made the difficult decision to let Herondale/Kingfisher look after my wife. Three years have passed and I and my family could not be more pleased that we chose this care home. In my words this care home is well managed, care workers so helpful and caring. Nurses are so informative, always there to answer my questions and put an arm around you when you need it. Herondale/Kingfisher is in my eyes a little gem.
Reply from Heather Young, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for taking the time to submit your kind thoughts regarding the care and support Herondale/Kingfisher provide for our ladies, gentlemen and relatives. As a family, we are always touched to receive such praise and recognition, and I will be sure to pass your sentiments onto all the staff and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Although my mother was a resident in the home for a short time, all the staff made her and us feel very welcome and comfortable from the first day. The care my mother received was excellent and of a very high standard. Everyone respected my mother's wishes, dignity and carried out her instructions.
We meet as strangers, and we left as friends.
Reply from Heather Young, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for taking the time to express your sentiments regarding the care your mother received. All the staff are tremendously dedicated to the ladies and gentlemen they look after and for them to be recognised in this way is a wonderful tribute to them.

My mother was at the end of life and the medical staff at the hospital could do no more for her. I was told that she would be moved to Herondale/Kingfisher Nursing Home on Yardley Green Road. I was sceptical and concerned as any sibling would be. I went down to the nursing home and was greeted by a
member of staff who invited me in and got a nurse to answer any questions that I may have. The nurse I spoke to made me feel completely at ease and I knew that I had no worries regarding my mother's welfare. My mom was moved into the home and was only there for less than two days before she finally passed away. I can honestly say that the staff at the nursing home are angels without wings. Even the cleaner took time out on my first visit to have a ten-minute chat with me. The nursing home is immaculate. If somebody was asking me about a decent nursing home for a family relative I would have no hesitation in recommending Herondale/Kingfisher.
Reply from Heather Young, Home Manager at Herondale/KingfisherThank you so much for your kind words. It is always rewarding when all staff are recognised for their dedication to their role. It is very kind of you to take the time to put forward this review given your recent loss.

After having issues at my mum's previous care home, I was worried how she would settle into somewhere new. I needn’t have had any concerns as she has settled into Herondale really well. The staff treat her with respect and dignity and she now joins in with activities. I am not able to visit as often
as I did at the previous home due to the distance, but I know mum is being cared and looked after and when I visit it's lovely to see her relaxed in her new home.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.401)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.401) out of 10 for Herondale/Kingfisher is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.577 for Herondale/Kingfisher is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 175 Ratings = 4.577
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.824 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Herondale/Kingfisher is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 registered maximum number of service users is 15.8. 15 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.8 = 0.949
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
