All the staff have been excellent. I was worried when Mum moved in but every effort was made to help her settle. She now seems happy and relaxed. If she is well then it takes a lot of pressure off me and my sister knowing she is safe and well looked after.

Staff are always friendly.
So pleasant to enter the building with smiley faces.
Atmosphere lovely.
Rooms could be cleaned a bit better/more skirting boards and around ceiling.
So pleased getting Mum back in the lounge - it does her so good seeing others and listening to the music and doing activities
(when in a good mood). We appreciate it's not always that easy.
Reply from Kay Forster, Registered Manager at Ashfield HouseThank you for your review, our friendly team of staff appreciate your kind words. The home has just taken on extra members of cleaning staff to strengthen this department.

I don't have any complaints. When I asked questions, they answered positively. All the staff have been polite and helpful. I have asked Mom about here and she responds positively. She likes the food and enjoys getting around in her chair. She likes the company but doesn't mind being on her own. I think
she looks much healthier now than when she first came in. So all's well.

My mother moved into Ashfield House in January 2023, this was a very hard decision for the family. I can honestly say I have never been happier with the care my mum receives, she is always clean and tidy. Her clothes are clean and she is always smiling, there is a variety of activities within the home.
The food is always fresh and the staff are polite friendly and willing t help.

Following a fall our mother was transferred to Ashfield House for respite care. The carers and staff in the home are lovely, they took good care of our mother and attended to her daily needs. We felt at ease that our mother was being looked after and cared for during her time there. Our mother too seemed
comfortable there and had a good relationship with the carers. The home has good facilities, a nice open lounge, a dining area and garden for residents to sit in and is in a great location, easy to get to and visit. Thank you Ashfield House for taking care of our mother during her stay, would definitely recommend this care home.

Walking into Ashfield House it feels like a ray of sunshine has hit you. Greeted with a smile from management staff. I would like to see more done for the people that can't walk, daily exercise in a group making sure everyone joins in.

Staff are always welcoming, very happy and nothing is too much trouble. My friend is well cared for and the staff deal with personal issues with dignity. We can visit any time of day and we are always welcomed in and greeted with a smile. My friend is happy here, she would like to return home at some
point but she is too unwell to do so.

This home has a very homely environment. Staff are caring and friendly. They have an open door policy, therefore we can come and go as we please. The home is trying to make improvements for their residents and the staff or the building where necessary so that the residents are happy and comfortable.

My brother has been a resident here for nearly 12 months. I have witnessed kindness to him and care. He has found some peace and contentment here, which I have wished for him for a long time. Thank you for all that you do for him. I have also noticed that the atmosphere has improved in recent weeks.
Lovely news that hairdresser and chiropodist can now visit again.

My relative has been at Ashfield House for a few months and has settled in so well. I have nothing but praise for the home. The staff are very helpful and caring, they are easy to talk to and nothing seems too much trouble. I'm very happy with the new management, the door is always open for a chat,
and I can see many improvements already. I have informed the social worker of how happy I am also, so I hope this message has been passed on. Keep up the great work.

The care home is good though one or two improvements would help. Small activities have started to take place but more needed to keep residents motivated, perhaps some gentle exercises too. DVD player would be useful instead of TV programmes all the time so residents can watch old films that they like,
they also seem to enjoy a particular radio station which could be put on more frequently. Residents do not appear to do for themselves. Garden umbrellas would be good to keep residents safe from sun in summer (bright ones), maybe some more colourful plants/shrubs for them to enjoy around borders/walls (ones which do not require much maintenance). Encourage residents to use the lounge more, could they bring in some singing groups? Difficult times with covid/shortage of staff but have only found caring, accomodating and pleasant staff. Perhaps some bins to be provided in rooms for dirty washing.

The team here looked after my old mum exceptionally well. Very homely and welcoming environment. The whole team were there right from the start, showing a genuine interest in my mum as an individual. Every time I visited I was greeted with a smile and always had confidence that the staff were doing
what they could to give my mum the best care.

Mum is very content here and is looked after very well. The carers are very kind and thoughtful. There are activities for her to join in with when she wishes.
Like all care homes, they have to balance income and services. This one does better than most in this respect.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.551)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.551) out of 10 for Ashfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.551 for Ashfield House is calculated as follows: ( (164 Excellents x 5) + (117 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 287 Ratings = 4.551
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashfield House is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
