In my experience, the care, love, and treatment with dignity that my mom has received during her stay has been outstanding. The support given to both myself and mom has been wonderful, especially during the more trying of times. It’s very much appreciated. The staff and management are all so lovely
and an extension of our family. Mom has blossomed during being there and all of her needs are met. She is the very best she can be now. As a daughter, I can feel sure that mom is in the best place for all of her needs and it gives me the peace of mind and reassurance that she is in the safest of hands. My mam was admitted in September 2020 following a stroke I have nothing but praise for the staff. Especially the way they have cared for patients throughout this pandemic. I have found them to be kind, caring and considerate in the way they take care of my mam. They are very friendly and always have

My mom is taken care of very well. The staff are friendly and caring. I know mom can be difficult at times, but she receives the same high standard of care at all times and I can feel that she is safe. Although it has been hard for me to choose to put Mom into care, and the isolation from Mom during

Dad has only been in Ash Lodge since September so with everything that's been going on I haven't had much dealings with the home until recently. I'm pleased with how Dad is being looked after and he seems happy and settled. I'm also getting to know the staff (putting faces to names) which is great.

My wife went into Ash Lodge due to me not being able to look after her as I needed respite. The staff were great and looked after her so well that she no longer needed enemas daily. Her cognition was dramatically increased and so did her reading and writing. Although she did not have any dementia or
other type of illness she had suffered from a bad hip replacement and a liver problem of which the staff were aware of. The only thing she and I noticed was that some of the other residents were extremely noisy due to Dementia and she did complain of lack of sleep.

I'm generally very satisfied. I've had some problems with the TV/radio set (resolved now). I enjoy a particularly good relationship with one carer (though it may be one-way, as I can be very annoying). The food could be better, at least for my tastes. It's a pity the carers seem almost always to be

Dad was cared for in Ash Lodge for a few weeks before he passed away. Because of the COVID restrictions I was only able to visit him once but was impressed with the care given to dad and the measures taken to keep the residents safe. He seemed very happy and contented. The staff were very friendly and
kept us informed of any issues relating to his care. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the home to others.

Wonderful place. I couldn't wish for my Mom to be in a nicer home. Nothing is too much trouble for the excellent staff. The room is excellent and clean. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home. My mom was end of life and was only in the home for two weeks, but we were made so welcome and looked after. The home is spotlessly clean and nothing is too much trouble. If you are looking for a nursing home for a loved one, please go and visit Ash

I cannot put into words how grateful we all are to Ash Lodge. The care, attention and, above all else, the love that was shown to my aunt anyone would find nigh on impossible to be better never mind equal. The sensitivity and dignity that all members of staff delivered to my aunt was superb. My aunt
was given 4 weeks to live on her discharge from Hospital in July 2019. Due to the care she received she was able to live comfortably until the 3rd of Feb when she passed away painlessly. My aunt had no home to start her final journey from and we are so grateful that she can start that journey from Ash Lodge. Finally to you all a heartfelt thanks.

From the moment we walked into Ash Lodge we knew it was the provider we wanted to Mom. Staff were courteous, friendly and very professional. This wasn't an act for our initial visit, it continued for the time Mom spent in care. All I really wanted for Mom was care, dignity and some TLC. Mom received
that and more. Ash Lodge staff had the knack of being part of the extended family but knew when to step back. We can't thank them enough for what they did for Mom in the last year of her life.

My mom has been a resident here for two years.
Although she, at first, wanted to go home, she soon began to like it, realising she needed the special care they supplied. The carers and nursing staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough and Mom's needs always put first. I visited mom all week but having
weekends off, knowing she was in good care. Lovely, clean home. I would recommend it for anyone's parent/loved one.

My father in law was very well looked after. The staff were very kind. Couldn't do enough for him. The rooms were kept spotless and the nursing home were lovely and very kind. I would also like to see a very big thank you to the manager and the reception staff.

My mother spent 18 months at Ash Lodge until her death and did not regret one minute of it. Having realised that she could no longer cope herself, moving into a care home was going to be a big adjustment - well about one week - before she felt safe and cared for and began to accept that this was to
be home. What a home it became. All the carers gave their best care and attention and always managed to find time to talk to Mom and make her feel part of their lives.


The management care about patient welfare, not just medically but socially and mentally. Nothing is too much trouble at Ash Lodge, the clients are seen as their principal reason for its existence. She was very confident about the care she received and so was I, which was a great comfort being abroad for much of the time. 'We Care' is a motto that is upheld at Ash Lodge in every way. Mom was respected as an elderly unwell lady and not just a patient, even to the day of her funeral when most staff came to say goodbye.

As soon as my father became a resident in Ash Lodge it felt he was finally being treated like a person instead of a number. My confidence in Ash Lodge grew and grew and I don't lie awake worrying about him. They really care for all of their residents. I can't praise them enough.

My husband spent his last 4 weeks at Ash Lodge receiving palliative care.
The staff showed great kindness and compassion in nursing him.
The home itself was always clean and welcoming, and my family and I were always made welcome, being offered a room if we wished to stay overnight - nothing was too
much trouble for them.
We only wanted my husband's last weeks to be dignified, and you exceeded all our expectations with love, care and patience, and for that, we will always be grateful.

My husband and I visited an old friend who was being cared for at Ash Lodge at what was to be the end of his life.
The staff were friendly and treated our friend, who was not in our eyes 'elderly', with the dignity and respect he deserved.
The home was always clean and welcoming, we were offered
drinks whilst we were there and the staff had a lovely rapport with our friend and the other residents in the lounge.

Helen Wilcox

Helen started her career in care over 40 years ago when she joined her mom in delivering home help to the local community before moving on to caring for the elderly in residential care homes.


Helen worked night shifts for many years whilst raising her own family. During this time, Helen gained her qualifications, which enabled her to obtain a position of deputy Care manager. Helen always wanted to make a difference in care and remained determined to gain the qualification to become a care home manager. Helen has managed residential and nursing homes for the last 23 years. Helen has worked in care all of her working life and remains as passionate about care now as she was when she started her career.

David

David Carpenter

Job Title: Deputy Nurse Manager

David began his care journey in 2007, working as a care assistant in Solihull. Wanting to make more of a difference to his residents' lives, he blossomed into a senior care assistant and then went on to qualify as a registered nurse in 2014. Having a passion for palliative care, he then joined the Birmingham Hospice in Selly Oak. He achieved a Bachelor's degree in Adult Cancer Care, earning him the title of Palliative Nurse Specialist. Whilst he loved the hospice setting, he missed the homely ambience of a nursing home.


In August 2017, he joined Ash Lodge as palliative care lead; it was then that he was able to put his knowledge into practice. David is now Deputy nurse manager at Ash Lodge and enjoys the challenges and rewards that come with it.
