My mom was 0nly there for 2 weeks. But I felt she was looked after the staff were friendly and caring. When she passed they made it easy for me and left her things untouched until I could collect them and left a lovely card. Thank you to everyone who looked after her.

After a difficult few months with my aunts health and welfare, we have found the perfect place for her to be! A very caring, supportive home, with brilliant staff. Always someone to speak to if I'm at all concerned but to be honest, that's not happening very much. I feel at ease now that my aunt is in a safe place, being cared for 24 hours of a day. Thank you for the peace of mind.

I am so happy that Dad was able to spend his final few years at Ash Lodge. From the moment Dad arrived at Ash Lodge he was treated with care, dignity and love. My brother and I were also immediately advised what processes we should both initiate ourselves on Dad's arrival. In hindsight this was invaluable advise which was really important as well.
Whenever I visited Dad I had a warm and friendly welcome from everyone at Ash Lodge. Over time I got to know everyone involved in caring and looking after Dad as well. Everyone working there, in whatever capacity, were kind and considerate. Each person felt like a friend too. So as well as caring and supporting all of Dad's needs mine were also fully met too. Like, since I was travelling from afar to visit Dad, I was allowed to make myself a hot drink on arriving at Ash Lodge. This meant though that Dad and I could then both have a cup of tea together while initially catching up on different things.
For myself, especially when I could no longer stay overnight in my parents' house, Ash Lodge felt like my second home.
Therefore Ash Lodge Care Home is a very special place and I will treasure forever the special memories I have of Dad while he was living at Ash Lodge.

So many thanks to the whole Team at Ash Lodge for providing the opportunity to make all of this happen including everyone's help and support given to both Dad and myself.

My brother was admitted to Ash Lodge due to a life limiting illness and although he was resident for a brief amount of time, I found the staff to be kind and considerate. I was always able to speak to a member of the nursing team, who knew my brother's needs very well. They clearly care a great deal about the people that they care for. Nothing is too much trouble and he was well looked after in his short stay. My thanks go to the whole team.

The minute you walk through the doors the caring, wonderful atmosphere is obvious. My partner received excellent care throughout his short stay - as did I. Nothing was too much trouble and every member of staff went out of their way to help support and care. I can't thank Ash Lodge and their amazing team enough for making our nightmare a little easier.

My brother received nursing care at Ash Lodge for 3 months. High praise for the care my brother received in every respect. Nothing was ever too much trouble, staff always cheerful and smiling and cared about the relatives too. My brother passed away at Ash Lodge but it was in a well cared for and dignified way. My late brother was a resident in Ash Lodge Nursing Home last October. Although he was only there for a very short time, I cannot praise the staff enough for all the care they gave him in this final chapter of his life. They showed him such kindness and respected his dignity at all times ensuring all his needs were met. We were able to visit at any time and I cannot thank the staff enough for all the support and advice they gave us at a very distressing time.

My beloved friend was at Ash Lodge for 10 months . He sadly passed away in February . He came into care after being very poorly in hospital and not being well enough to go back home . I had one wish that he could be placed in a nursing home where he would receive good care and Ash Lodge fulfilled this wish . Leaving your beloved home is difficult for anyone but Ash Lodge made this easier for him. He was welcomed warmlyI. visited him regularly and observed the staff to be kind and caring to him . They treated him with dignity and respect. They were welcoming to visitors as well as approachable if we had any concerns . It's the little touches like the receptionist fetching his paper everyday that made such a difference to him . They made a difficult situation easier . His room and the other areas of the home were always spotless and smelt clean. I shall always be grateful that we picked this home for our dear friend and would definitely recommend it to others .

My cousin was transferred from hospital to A.L in June 2024. This was done very quickly & I was apprehensive that it may not be appropriate but my husband & I did an impromptu visit - no appointment, no notice but the staff on duty were welcoming & answered all of our questions. Cleanliness is outstanding. To date the care has been excellent, the staff are always on hand & professional. There has been an ongoing issue with food as my cousin is coeliac but word with the manager & within 20 minutes problem solved. As a visitor I am always made welcome.

Overall the home and staff are very caring and obliging to needs and are always helpful where possible. Daytime staff are exceptional. Nighttime staff are poor & only do the bare minimum. Food is poor & random and we choose to buy our own. It would be ideal if staff wore name badges.

Reply from David Carpenter, Deputy Nurse Manager at Ash Lodge Care Home with Nursing

Thank you for your review Sharon. We are pleased to hear that the care team in the day are exceptional, however we are very concerned in the care your friend is recieving from the night team. I have spoken to your friend that lives here and we have agreed on an action plan going forward. Thank you...

I visit my friend every Tuesday afternoon. She is very well cared for. The whole place is very clean & always smells lovely. All of my friends physical needs are met. There is often a social event that my friend can join in. All the staff are very friendly, professional and a credit to their profession, taking care of all residents and going the extra mile to make sure the residents are cared for and happy. There are plenty of staff on duty & my friend & I can always speak to someone if we need to.

My father was 94 when he moved to Ash lodge and had a whole array of medical problems, that would have presented a challenge to anyone looking after him, but he was always shown great care and treated with respect and dignity and I observed this first hand as I was a frequent visitor. The hygiene standards are excellent and all the staff were always so kind, and helpful if I had a query or problem concerning my dad. I am so grateful he spent his final year in the care of the staff at Ash Lodge and have no hesitation in recommending the Home to anyone who is looking to place their loved one in a home where they will be looked after and well cared for.

Helen Wilcox
Helen WilcoxJob Title:Manager

Helen started her career in care over 40 years ago when she joined her mom in delivering home help to the local community before moving on to caring for the elderly in residential care homes.

Helen worked night shifts for many years whilst raising her own family. During this time, Helen gained her qualifications, which enabled her to obtain a position of deputy Care manager. Helen always wanted to make a difference in care and remained determined to gain the qualification to become a care home manager. Helen has managed residential and nursing homes for the last 23 years. Helen has worked in care all of her working life and remains as passionate about care now as she was when she started her career.

David Carpenter
David CarpenterJob Title:Deputy Nurse Manager

David began his care journey in 2007, working as a care assistant in Solihull. Wanting to make more of a difference to his residents' lives, he blossomed into a senior care assistant and then went on to qualify as a registered nurse in 2014. Having a passion for palliative care, he then joined the Birmingham Hospice in Selly Oak. He achieved a Bachelor's degree in Adult Cancer Care, earning him the title of Palliative Nurse Specialist. Whilst he loved the hospice setting, he missed the homely ambience of a nursing home.

In August 2017, he joined Ash Lodge as palliative care lead; it was then that he was able to put his knowledge into practice. David is now Deputy nurse manager at Ash Lodge and enjoys the challenges and rewards that come with it.
