Our friend has been at Ash Lodge for three years. He's happy there, well looked after. It's an impressive place.
Every time we visit we are moved by the kindness and friendliness of the staff and the thoroughly competent way issues are dealt with.
Usually, all the doors of the rooms are open and we can see and smile at the other residents as walk down the corridor. Our friend told us that one of his carers wanted him to write her a poem. This is what he wrote -
'Oh carer, our caring angel,
Here in Ash Lodge, our home,

Your grateful charges thank you for all the love you've shown'.

They are always cleaning and making the whole place homely.
Mom's room is lovely and full of her memories.

My mom was admitted to Ash Lodge Care Home in April 2023 following a fall at home, suffering a head injury. After months in the hospital no improvement in her mobility and showing no signs in her capacity to self-care (whereas she was always independent) the decision was made for her to be referred to Ash Lodge Care Home. To mine and my brother's surprise, our mom was in the best care environment for her needs. The staff and management are the best team, caring, friendly, compassionate, helpful and kind bunch of people I have ever met. Knowing I can sleep at night, knowing my mom is in safe hands and being cared for by this amazing team is beyond compassion for human life and their caring dedicated nature. I will be forever grateful to Ash Lodge team for making my mom's stay with them feeling loved and cared for in her final years.

Dad was transferred to Ash Lodge from hospital. The care and understanding of Dad’s needs are amazing. All the staff do their best to make him comfortable and his needs catered for. We weren’t prepared for this step for Dad, however more than happy so far with Dad's care, he has now been with them for four weeks.

Although my mom was only in Ash Lodge Care Home with Nursing for a very short time before she passed away, the staff treated her with the care and respect she deserved. The staff went above and beyond looking after my mom. I just wish they got to know Mom as they would have loved her and I know she would have loved them. After my mom passed away they treated her with the upmost dignity also advising me of exactly what to do and how to go about it. I would recommend Ash Lodge in a heartbeat if anyone was looking for a safe, caring and loving home for their loved one.

From the warm welcome to the medical care, we find it hard to fault. We are kept informed by phone if necessary to her needs. Able to visit at any time, instils confidence in us to the daily runnings of the home. More important is that she is happy and settled. We have been visiting for two years and have seen little changes in staff who always speak, smile and are courteous and caring

I, like most people never wanted to reach a situation where a relation I loved and cared for had to be moved into a care home facility but unfortunately in 2022 that time came. I’ll never forget the reassurances those at Ash Lodge provided me whilst an end-of-life care package was set up, alongside the care and attention they showed my relation whilst in their physical care. Although the time there was brief, my relation was content and well cared for in facilities that were clean and well-maintained. Carers greeted me by name and acknowledged me as their main contact I had a clear knowledge of their conditions and took any comments made on board and were contactable 24/7. I will be forever grateful to those who helped make my aunt's last weeks, days and hours as comfortable and as dignified as possible and I truly believe they cared for them as if they were one of their own.

I chose Ash Lodge Care Home because it was near to my father's home. May I say how good the staff were in helping my father what turned out to be his last few years. Professional and caring on a personal level. Unfortunately, when he passed away at ninety-one and we had the funeral the hearse stopped outside Ash Lodge and as a mark of respect, the staff were all outside in a line which moved both me and my husband to tears. I wish them the best for the future.

Our lovely mom has been in Ash Lodge Care Home for the last 12 weeks for rehab for her fractured shoulder. We have never had to worry about mom, as the staff are so caring and nothing is too much trouble. Even when passing mom's room they always stop and make conversation. Such a wonderful little place. Our mom's coming home soon, so we as a family would like to say a very big thank you to the manager and all her staff for looking after our mom. Keep up the excellent work.

I know my wife is in the best possible place for her care needs, being looked after by the most caring of staff. My wife hasn't got a clue what is going on about her due to dementia but I am confident that all of her care needs are met and staff still treat her with dignity and respect. Thank you.

I would like to thank all the staff at Ash Lodge for the wonderful care they have taken of my mother. She was with them for 7 months on end-of-life care. They could not have looked after her any better if she had been their own mother. The family cannot express our gratitude enough for your care and support through this sad time. You are all angels.

We have found the care at this home excellent. The staff have always been very helpful, especially during such a difficult time with the pandemic.
My mum has received care and attention throughout her time there.

She hasn't experienced any activities etc. as she has been bedbound. However, the staff have been in her room to spend time with her in other ways which I appreciate.

Since being in Ash Lodge, my mother has thrived. The staff have good interaction with the residents and encourages them in areas where needed. (Example, earing, taking medication). I have always found the staff to be polite and willing to help with any queries I may have. The level of care is very high, and I enjoy visiting the home. I would certainly recommend Ash Lodge to anyone who needed to go into care.

My mother was transferred to this care home in late August and sadly passed away on 02/09/21. Her stay was short but during that time she and myself and my daughter were treated with respect and care for the three of us. Nothing was too much trouble. We were kept informed all through Mom's stay. I know she would have been happy if her stay wasn't cut short. The staff gave my mother the dignity she deserved when she passed and we cannot thank them enough for the kindness and care they gave us.

As a family, the last thing we wanted was to have to have mom put into care, however being lucky enough to have found mom a place at Ash Lodge has removed all the pressure and guilt of not being able to care for her in her own home with dad. The quality of care and service coupled with amazing staff at all levels means that we know mom is safe, well cared for, and wants for nothing, most importantly giving my dad peace of mind. Thank you.

Helen Wilcox
Helen WilcoxJob Title:Manager

Helen started her career in care over 40 years ago when she joined her mom in delivering home help to the local community before moving on to caring for the elderly in residential care homes.

Helen worked night shifts for many years whilst raising her own family. During this time, Helen gained her qualifications, which enabled her to obtain a position of deputy Care manager. Helen always wanted to make a difference in care and remained determined to gain the qualification to become a care home manager. Helen has managed residential and nursing homes for the last 23 years. Helen has worked in care all of her working life and remains as passionate about care now as she was when she started her career.

David Carpenter
David CarpenterJob Title:Deputy Nurse Manager

David began his care journey in 2007, working as a care assistant in Solihull. Wanting to make more of a difference to his residents' lives, he blossomed into a senior care assistant and then went on to qualify as a registered nurse in 2014. Having a passion for palliative care, he then joined the Birmingham Hospice in Selly Oak. He achieved a Bachelor's degree in Adult Cancer Care, earning him the title of Palliative Nurse Specialist. Whilst he loved the hospice setting, he missed the homely ambience of a nursing home.

In August 2017, he joined Ash Lodge as palliative care lead; it was then that he was able to put his knowledge into practice. David is now Deputy nurse manager at Ash Lodge and enjoys the challenges and rewards that come with it.
