Overall Experience
My mom has been a resident here for two years.

Although she, at first, wanted to go home, she soon began to like it, realising she needed the special care they supplied. The carers and nursing staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough and Mom's needs always put first. I visited mom all week but having weekends off, knowing she was in good care. Lovely, clean home. I would recommend it for anyone's parent/loved one.

My father in law was very well looked after. The staff were very kind. Couldn't do enough for him. The rooms were kept spotless and the nursing home were lovely and very kind. I would also like to see a very big thank you to the manager and the reception staff.

Thank you for the comments above. Mr Nocton was a pleasure to look after and we are grateful that we had the opportunity to care for him. We hope he is well and still his cheerful self as he would always smile and banter with the staff. We welcome you all anytime to come and visit. Hope to see you soon.

Overall Experience

My mother spent 18 months at Ash Lodge until her death and did not regret one minute of it. Having realised that she could no longer cope herself, moving into a care home was going to be a big adjustment - well about one week - before she felt safe and cared for and began to accept that this was to be home. What a home it became. All the carers gave their best care and attention and always managed to find time to talk to Mom and make her feel part of their lives.

The management care about patient welfare, not just medically but socially and mentally. Nothing is too much trouble at Ash Lodge, the clients are seen as their principal reason for its existence. She was very confident about the care she received and so was I, which was a great comfort being abroad for much of the time. 'We Care' is a motto that is upheld at Ash Lodge in every way. Mom was respected as an elderly unwell lady and not just a patient, even to the day of her funeral when most staff came to say goodbye.

As soon as my father became a resident in Ash Lodge it felt he was finally being treated like a person instead of a number. My confidence in Ash Lodge grew and grew and I don't lie awake worrying about him. They really care for all of their residents. I can't praise them enough.

Overall Experience
My husband spent his last 4 weeks at Ash Lodge receiving palliative care.
The staff showed great kindness and compassion in nursing him.
The home itself was always clean and welcoming, and my family and I were always made welcome, being offered a room if we wished to stay overnight - nothing was too much trouble for them.

We only wanted my husband's last weeks to be dignified, and you exceeded all our expectations with love, care and patience, and for that, we will always be grateful.

Overall Experience
My husband and I visited an old friend who was being cared for at Ash Lodge at what was to be the end of his life.
The staff were friendly and treated our friend, who was not in our eyes 'elderly', with the dignity and respect he deserved.

The home was always clean and welcoming, we were offered drinks whilst we were there and the staff had a lovely rapport with our friend and the other residents in the lounge.

Reply from H Wilcox, Manager at Ash Lodge Care Home with Nursing

Helen WilcoxJob Title:Manager

Helen started her career in care over 40 years ago when she joined her mom in delivering home help to the local community before moving on to caring for the elderly in residential care homes.

Helen worked night shifts for many years whilst raising her own family. During this time, Helen gained her qualifications, which enabled her to obtain a position of deputy Care manager. Helen always wanted to make a difference in care and remained determined to gain the qualification to become a care home manager. Helen has managed residential and nursing homes for the last 23 years. Helen has worked in care all of her working life and remains as passionate about care now as she was when she started her career.

David Carpenter
David CarpenterJob Title:Deputy Nurse Manager

David began his care journey in 2007, working as a care assistant in Solihull. Wanting to make more of a difference to his residents' lives, he blossomed into a senior care assistant and then went on to qualify as a registered nurse in 2014. Having a passion for palliative care, he then joined the Birmingham Hospice in Selly Oak. He achieved a Bachelor's degree in Adult Cancer Care, earning him the title of Palliative Nurse Specialist. Whilst he loved the hospice setting, he missed the homely ambience of a nursing home.

In August 2017, he joined Ash Lodge as palliative care lead; it was then that he was able to put his knowledge into practice. David is now Deputy nurse manager at Ash Lodge and enjoys the challenges and rewards that come with it.
