Overall Experience
My husband who has dementia has resided at The Uplands since September 2024.
Everything about it is wonderful
He has an en-suite room
The care and carers are both outstanding
His room is always tidy and clean
Whatever time I visit I have never been concerned about anything.
The food is good
There is a lovely atmosphere in the home and amongst all the staff
The entertainment team go above and beyond to do interesting things with the residents and they know all the residents names and make an effort to find out as much about the residents as possible in order to provide appropriate activities.
The home encourages family members to get involved and makes an effort to know the family and the family background
Everyone is approachable.

I am grateful and happy with the home and would recommend it to anyone.

The Uplands is a lovely caring home. All staff are very dedicated to all the residents and they will do anything to help them and their family.
All the Staff here are very caring and helpful even the domestic and other staff as well.
The management are pleased to help me with all matters of my husband like repairing things in his room and helping all staff.
All residents are catered on different levels which is really good.

They do some activities and they have singing and music played for residents and they all are very happy and enjoy what ever is arranged for them. Well done The Uplands.

The Uplands generously agreed to take my father at very short notice when he had been stuck in hospital with a broken hip and dementia, and no one else would take him. We fell on our feet. He was accepted into a ward for residents with particularly severe dementia but the manager very quickly saw that it was not the most appropriate place for him and moved him to a more suitable ward where he has been ever since.
He has lived at Uplands for three and a half years now, and staff clearly know him very well. He is treated with respect and dignity, and unfailing kindness even when he is difficult. There are frequent activities offered which are imaginative and dementia friendly and which my father obviously enjoys.
We're always kept informed whenever issues arise and always receive a warm welcome when we visit.

As the home deliberately tries to avoid employing temporary staff, the carers know the residents very well, which makes a very positive difference to the excellent care given.

My husband was as resident on Meole ward for a short time with dementia, the care given by the Nurses and carers was excellent. During the later stages they provide us with food and coffee.

The family cannot thank them enough for what they did for us.

My mum was a resident at The Uplands for 15 months, during which time she received excellent care, always delivered with great compassion and efficiency. It was a very difficult time for mum and all of the family. We experienced some very emotional times but through all of this we felt upheld and supported by all of the staff group, including reception, domestics, maintenance, kitchen, activities, carers, nurses and management. We will always remember The Uplands staff with great fondness and appreciation.

The carers are caring, empathetic and respect patients' dignity. One issue is newly trained staff not fully up to date with systems before being left in charge. Maintenance staff are unfriendly and not approachable. Meals are not always hot when given to patients due to staff being called to do other duties, so meals are not served in good time. The unit could benefit from kitchen staff serving meals.

For a younger person in a nursing home, this is still a good place to be. I would have loved it if this was closer to the town center, so it would have been easier to go anywhere. The management is trying their best to keep the service improving and is very approachable.
The staff are all very friendly and caring, but you have got the odd language barrier. The food at this home is okay, although I would like to see more variety.

The rooms are a reasonable size but might be a bit cramped for younger physically disabled people. There are activities for all, with a lot of artists/entertainers coming into the home.

Reply from Marie Anne Ballestero, Home Manager at The Uplands

It’s heartening to know that you have found the staff at the nursing home to be friendly and caring. We acknowledge your mention of occasional language barriers and will take steps to address this issue to ensure effective communication with all residents. Your feedback helps us in our continuous efforts to provide a supportive and enriching environment for all residents at the nursing home.

My gran came in a short stay as she wasn't well enough to go home from hospital.
We found the care and whole service to be excellent. She enjoys doing activities that are on most days.

We also like the fact that she can have her hair and nails done. I would definitely look at here again if we ever need to.

Since my husband has gone into The Uplands, as a dementia patient, the last six months have been the most settling and reassuring time for us, as a family. To see my husband smile and engage with us and all. The staff allows us to enjoy quality time with him, we have only ever been met with warm, kind and caring help and support from all the management, nurses and all the professional and hardworking carers from day one of my husband's Uplands journey. Finding the right home to meet all different patients' wants and needs is very hard to find, as family. The Uplands treat every resident with dignity and respect. Thank you so much.

My nan has been at The Uplands for a couple of years and has been very happy. During Christmas, she was kept very busy with enjoyable activities which was amazing for her mental health, she had been feeling down but socialising in the activities gave her the boost she needed. At Christmas, as a family, we were so happy the home bought her a personalised Christmas present, it really put a smile on my nan's face. Her room has also been redecorated and it's lovely and homely, her room is kept lovely and clean. My nan is very happy living at The Uplands.

The care and compassion given to my dad was amazing - from the managers to the nurses - the carers - the activities staff - the general maintenance staff and the domestic staff, I could not fault the commitment to giving the best care possible. I can recommend The Uplands Nursing Home to anyone considering nursing residential care for their loved ones. My dad suffered with dementia among other illnesses and was a resident on the Meole Unit - I felt like part of the family and was made to feel very welcome every time I visited - I was kept up to date with every aspect of my dad's care.

Unfortunately, my dad passed away due to his illnesses but I wouldn't have gotten through this very difficult time without the care and support of the wonderful staff at The Uplands.

I live in London and my uncle lives in Shropshire on his own.

I called the home to inquire and they were able to admit my uncle at a short period of time. It was a big relief the management team was able to organise everything. I came to visit him during Christmas and I was amazed to see the improvement in his health. The staff were very friendly and the home was clean. My uncle appeared very happy. He’s now back home and if he needs to go back home again, I will never hesitate for him to go back to The Uplands.
