Mum was transferred at the beginning of January after being in the hospital for most of November and December. She was very frail and had complex needs, so required a great deal of nursing care, which the staff at The Haven provided to a very high standard, making her as comfortable as they could for
the last few months of her life.

By and large, the staff do a good job. I do however have some concerns about staffing levels on occasions, especially at weekends. The apparent level of "agency" staff is equally concerning. Likewise, what appears to be the absence of management personnel on Saturday and Sunday.
I would like to see
a photo gallery of who's who, showing organisation chart, job roles, etc. on display.
Reply from Paul O'Grady, Development and Delivery Manager at The Haven Nursing HomeThank you for your review. I am pleased that you feel the staff do a good job and that the residents are treated with dignity and respect to an excellent standard. We ensure that the 7 days of the week are covered by our own staff and we use a very low level of agency cover.
We agree that a photo gallery would be good and the company is currently preparing a suitable board for display in the reception area. This will help identify who is in charge at weekends as well as during the week.

My father had been in this care home for only 10 weeks before, unfortunately, he passed away due to vascular dementia. My mother and I cannot fault this home from the minute he went in, all the staff, including admin team, were so caring and supportive, not just to my father but to my mother and I.
The home is going through a full refurbishment at the moment but in the short time he was there, the progress was so quick. Not only that, the care towards my father was never impacted by all the work that was happening. The meals were fantastic, couldn't ask for better selection and quality. Staff were brilliant, so patient, nothing was too much trouble even in his bad moody days. We are so happy that his final weeks were spent being comfortable, cared for as if he was one of the family. Would recommend this home 100%. Thank you to everyone at the home.

My wife came into The Haven Nursing Home on the 16th December 2019. She was met by a very welcoming management team and staff. It's a comfort to know that she is being cared for by a very caring staff who cannot do enough for the residents to make sure that they are kept clean and well-fed at mealtimes
and what they did at Christmas was very special.

Carers are very helpful, nurses and staff are very helpful. The building needs upgrading.
Reply from Paul O'Grady, Development and Delivery Manager at The Haven Nursing HomeThank you very much for your review, I am delighted that you are happy with the care we give. As you may know, we are in the process of refurbishing the home which we bought in April and we are all very excited about how it will look once completed.

My mother has been in this care home for the past 6 months.
There have been teething problems with both her care and my mum settling in and settling down, but I think she is ok now.
The carers are really lovely with my mum and the meals provided are very good.
The only area I am not 100% satisfied
with is the cleanliness of mum's room.
The night staff do not always finish off cleaning her room.
This has been highlighted a few times and hopefully, the new owners will address this problem.

My Nan had 2 periods of excellent care here as part of the hospital Discharge to Assess scheme after she fell and fractured her hip. If you visit this home please don't let first appearances be deceiving - When you arrive you may notice that the building is tired. I would even go as far as to say that
at times it felt unclean. I am confident the staff are regularly cleaning as best they can but some carpets and furniture are in need of updating, which the new owners are now in the process of doing. That said, the care my Nana received at The Haven was fantastic. She was treated with kindness and respect from all members of staff and the physio/OT staff did a wonderful job of encouraging her to walk again (made more difficult by her dementia). The staff listened and helped every time we raised a concern or asked questions and it made a world of difference to us as family members to know that she was being looked after during her stay. Thank you very much to all the staff team!
Reply from Kulbir Kandola, MD at The Haven Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words Fawn. I’m the new proud owner of The Haven. Staff are indeed excellent. It is now my mission to ensure the accommodation matches the high standard of care that the staff provide. Thank you.

I was admitted to The Haven after 3 months in hospital. The hospital physio had done nothing to aid mobility so when I arrived I had done no walking for nearly 3 months. After 1 week I am walking with a frame. Staff and food are excellent. I now am on the road to independence and home.

My father was admitted to this nursing home from hospital in July 2018, the staff were fabulous, he was looked after with dignity and patience, whenever we went to visit they couldn't have been more helpful, they looked after him until he died in early October, then they looked after us. Nothing was
too much trouble when they were looking after my father, I can't praise them highly enough.

Prior to going into The Haven Nursing Home, my aunt had frequent stays in hospital as she was no longer able to adequately care for herself. Now a permanent resident at The Haven Nursing Home, she is cared for and has a much better quality of life.

My Grandmother was admitted having fallen and fractured her wrist. She was there for approx. 5 weeks. She was often left in bed until lunch and sometimes until 4 pm. She was rarely dressed at all during the day. She was showered only once in 3 1/2 weeks and was put into incontinence pads, although
she did not go into the home incontinent. The food was lukewarm at best and on one occasion, she and those around her were completely forgotten about and received no food from lunch until 10 pm when another resident complained. The visits to this home were depressing. It was dark and gloomy, as were the bathrooms. I complained on 3 separate occasions about a piece of carpet on the main walkway to the dining area, it was raised and a trip hazard to clients and staff. It was taped down with black tape which did not hold and continued to be a hazard for the 5 weeks I visited.
I would not recommend this home and will send a full list of concerns directly to the manager.

We are very pleased with this care home. From the one our father came from we noticed major differences in a good way. After 2 years of being bed bound in another care home, he is now able to be out in the day room mixing with other residents and carers. Absolutely brilliant people. We cannot believe
the difference in our father. We can’t thank the staff enough for how good they are with our father.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.628)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.628) out of 10 for The Haven Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.971 for The Haven Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (132 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 136 Ratings = 4.971
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.657 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Haven Nursing Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14. 12 Positive Reviews ÷ 14 = 0.857
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
