My review is as a regular visitor to Town Thorns. I have never been disappointed in the attention that the staff give to me and my sister. They are never too busy to help you in any query you have if I have one.
The staff are always pleasant and my sister gets on with them very well which puts my
mind at ease knowing that the care is always there day or night.
Things are always special to everybody.

Since Dad came into Town Thorns it has changed his life, he is so much happier and enjoys the company. The rooms we find a little small but Dad seems happy with it.

My review is tow fold because I was a sheltered housing resident for many years.
However, following a stroke, I made the decision to move to our residential unit for 24/7 care which I have had for the past 5 years an excellent decision on my part.
Leaving one's home is quite traumatic but as a sheltered
housing resident, the years were quite fruitful making new friends also working for the matron/manager as a volunteer leading to a lay inspector with social services.

The staff on the nursing unit take great care of my mother-in-law. They are kind, friendly and supportive. Occasionally there is not enough staff but the team work hard to fill the gap and the care quality is still high but the residents have a long wait to be seen.
The unit is a bit tired however
there is work currently going on to give the building a facelift.
I feel the staff are respectful of the residents and their families and take the time to listen even when they are busy. Most importantly, my mother-in-law is very settled there.

My father has been in Town Thorns for 6 weeks. The improvement in his physical and mental wellbeing is amazing thanks to the support, kindness and care of the staff and management. I cannot speak or recommend this facility more highly. This is a difficult change of circumstances for anyone, but it
has been achieved more satisfactorily than he or the family could have hoped for. A heartfelt thank you.

I am 97 years old and have been a resident here for 25 years and have found the establishment to be very satisfactory. It is located in beautiful countryside and very well run. Bus service is provided but it is helpful to have personal transport if available. Prepared to enlarge on this if necessary.

I have known "Town Thorns" as a visitor since 1990 and have lived here as a resident since 2006. It has always had a happy atmosphere with delightful and helpful staff and is always welcoming. We residents are inclined to comment and criticise but are happy here and feel privileged to live here.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.732) out of 10 for Town Thorns Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.782 for Town Thorns Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (203 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 229 Ratings = 4.782
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Town Thorns Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
