Review of Weston Park Care Home from Lynn M (Wife of Resident) published on 4 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
This is an appalling carehome, my husband spent 90% of his 5 months here suffering, no communication, extremely poor hygiene, incompetent care staff, broken personal items and stolen, ignorant manager (John). Serious incidents not documented so go ignored, Missed meals or inedible. Safeguarding involved not just with our complaints but own staff complained too.
If you complain of poor care staffing your classes as a nuisance, wouldn't need to complain if your loved one was being cared for and treated like a human not a number.
Even staff left due to being treated appallingly, Says it all doesn't it. They show fun days on fb, there was no fun in my husbands building, 80% left to rot in their own beds and in their own excrement.
Please do not leave your loved ones here if you want to feel relaxed they are being taken care of because they simply won't be.

I'm limited to what I need to say but what is more important is safeguarding know everything my poor husband suffered.

Reply from John Craig, Home Manager at Weston Park Care Home
This review is not unexpected as the resident wasn't happy from the moment he arrived. Everything was done to meet his needs however, in the end I had to serve notice as it was not fair on my staff.

The residents wife said that he would be just the same wherever he moved to. I think it worth noting that he asked could he stay at Weston Park.

The staff are always friendly and I couldn't ask for a better team to look after her, all of the residents always look comfortable and well cared for, the food looks lovely and the home has a lovely relaxed family atmosphere. we can visit whenever we want to and are always made to feel welcome. Very kind and caring team. Thankyou.

Outstanding care from the professional, dedicated and compassionate team at Portland House. Mum was cared for and respected as a unique lady at Portland, where her individual needs and wishes were met with kindness. Throughout the four and a half years the consideration and professionalism of all members of the Portland team helped so much to reassure Mum herself, Dad (who is now a resident himself) and myself and brother. Thank you to Portland, the wonderful manager, nurses, carers, housekeepers, chefs, maintenance team and wider community including the responsive medical practice next door. May I especially mention the sensitive care and support we all appreciated at the time of Mum' s passing.

My wife went into Weston Park 5.5.2026. I met the manager, two months before, he showed me round, spent an hour answering my questions, which I was very impressed with. I am pleased with every aspect of her care the food, her room with a lovely view. The carers are very attentive, and don't mind me pointing out things about my wife. Im very happy with her care and go back home with peace of mind.

Can't praise this care home enough. Caring staff, kitchen staff catered to my dads gluten free dietary needs, cooking special food he requested. All staff and nurses so very special. Would recommend this care home to everyone. The actual home is spotlessly clean and decorated like a hotel, so residents feel special in their final years/months.

Overall Experience
My mum passed away recently with care and dignity surrounded by her family/ friends and given the top quality care and support from all staff at Townthorns.
My mum has lived at Townthorns for nearly 4 years. She had dementia and falls .
All her time there she received top quality care and support.
The food was excellent and if they asked for anything special they did their best to cater for there individual needs.
They had a wonderful therapy and well being group 7 days a week which enabled them to keep active and social.
The communication with families was top class always keeping us in the loop.
In her final days we where all looked after and mums wishes followed perfectly.
I have nothing but respect and positive comments for all staff and the home it's self.

Thank you Townthorns for everything you did for mum and us.

We have recently had two family celebrations. The first was my mum's birthday, and today we brought the wedding of my niece to Anville Court. On both occasions, the staff have gone over and beyond our expectations and provided us with two fantastic events.

We feel the care, compassion and friendliness of all the staff is worth 10/10. Anville Court always makes you feel welcome, and we feel our dear mum is well cared for.

My mum was admitted to hospital. When she was discharged she returned to Town Thorns in a far worse condition than when she left. Review of Chesford Grange Care Home from Pat N (Brother of Resident) published on 4 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My brother had been a resident for almost two years, in that time he was well looked after.
But since new management had taken over, that care rocketed. How I know this is I've visited my brother three times a week for the two years. So I definitely think I'm a good judge at knowing how much things had changed for the better.
Sadly this month my brother was end of life, but that care & compassion was second to none. They not only took care of my brother, they looked after me, being there sometimes for up to 10hrs that care never changed. My brother sadly passed away an hour after I left him this week, but that care didn't stop there I was picked up from home so I could see him one last time. Now that's dedication.
So I want to say a massive thank you from the bottom of my heart to Management.Nursing Staff.Carers Activities.

Receptionists Administrator .Domestics. Kitchen Staff & anyone I may have missed out, a massive heartfelt thank you for looking after my brother so well.

My father had to take up residence at very late notice after a period in a home that had been traumatic. Every single member of staff here: management; nursing, carer, cleaner, catering, have been warm, welcoming and patient. My father has now been here 4 months and is so much more settled and happier in spirits. He loves the food and the activities. I cannot praise Town Thorns enough!

Review of Chesford Grange Care Home from C P (Daughter of Resident) published on 26 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mum has only recently gone into the home but I can honestly say, after looking at 2 other care homes, Chesford Grange in my opinion outshines them on so many levels.
There are lots of staff around, in many different roles all making sure the residents needs are met and they are as comfortable as possible.
There are activities staff who are so bubbly and creative with their ideas for entertaining the residents.
The nurses have let me know how she's settling in and how to deal with some of the challenging behaviour she has.
The manager reassured me that they can deal with her condition, they've seen it before and have no doubt she'll settle in. That was massive load off my mind.
Housekeeping and reception have also been so welcoming and helpful.

I genuinely feel so lucky we got the chance to have a place at Chesford Grange for my mum.

When showing mum round for the first time all staff made a point to talk to her and say hello. Other places we visited all but ignored her.

Staff to patient ratio is high than others we visited. Every time I visit staff are very present and available to help and discuss what is going on.

John was admitted to Weston Park Care Home on 27th March 2026. At that time, I was suffering from severe stress. I was greeted by Sabina, a sensible, knowledgeable lady who was extremely kind and compassionate. We were introduced to some of the carers who all had a friendly smile and were helpful. I also spoke to John, the manager, who put my mind at rest. The nurses in charge have constantly been communicative and kind when I phoned to enquire about my husband. I cannot comment on the food/facilities/activities as I have not experienced them. I am very happy with the care my husband receives, I feel he is safe and very well looked after.

Review of Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home from Nicolette B (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 May 2026 Submitted via Postal Card

Having looked at other nursing homes for suitability for my mother's care, Hillcrest Manor stood out as clean, friendly and well run. I decided, after a visit to look at the facilities offered, to move my mother to Hillcrest Manor. The staff have always been extremely friendly but professional. Any queries were dealt with immediately. My daughter works in the NHS and visits nursing/care homes as part of her work as a nurse. She visited with me, and her comments were that she has never been in a cleaner nursing/care home. She was impressed. Well done! The activities for the residents are wonderful too.
