mum has settled into Portland House really well after a prolonged hospital stay. The staff are always friendly and I couldn't ask for a better team to look after her, all of the residents always look comfortable and well cared for, the food looks lovely and the home has a lovely relaxed family atmosphere. we can visit whenever we want to and are always made to feel welcome. Very kind and caring team. Thankyou.
Thank you for your kind words, it is a pleasure to care for mum
Outstanding care from the professional, dedicated and compassionate team at Portland House. Mum was cared for and respected as a unique lady at Portland, where her individual needs and wishes were met with kindness. Throughout the four and a half years the consideration and professionalism of all members of the Portland team helped so much to reassure Mum herself, Dad (who is now a resident himself) and myself and brother. Thank you to Portland, the wonderful manager, nurses, carers, housekeepers, chefs, maintenance team and wider community including the responsive medical practice next door. May I especially mention the sensitive care and support we all appreciated at the time of Mum' s passing.
Thank you very much for your kind words, mum will be sadly missed at Portland House, for her singing down the corridor.
Brilliant care - thoughtful caring staff. Very efficient and kind.My mum and dad have had excellent care at Portland and I am happy to recommend the home. The staff are always responsive to any concerns that I have an alert me to any issues very quickly
Thank you for your kind review, it is a pleasure to care for both mum and dad
The staff are always friendly and not too busy to have a chat about my mother. We've been notified if she has been taken ill and updated about her condition. Nice friendly atmosphere with the home not being too big or impersonal.
Thank you very much for your kind words, it is a pleasure to care for mum
My mother was on the end of life pathway, and the care and support provided to both my mother and the family was excellent. We only ever experienced kindness and compassion from all staff in every department - the manager and administrator were also incredibly helpful in guiding us through the continuing health care process, which I was very appreciative of, including the liaison with members of mums disciplinary professions.
Thank you very much for your kind words, these are very much appreciated. Mum is truly missed
My mother was in Portland House from April 2019 until her death in December 2025 (aged 104). She received excellent nursing care, especially in the last 2 years, in which the necrotic condition of her foot required constant monitoring and skilful dressing to prevent it from spreading. She was bedridden for about 5 and a half years and needed frequent repositioning. The care staff treated her with dignity, kindness and affection. The cleaning staff also did what they could to help her. I have nothing but praise and gratitude for all that the staff did to make my mother comfortable and content in her difficult final years.
Thank you very much for such kind words, it was a pleasure to care for mum and she is very much missed at Portland
All the staff are polite and friendly, they always smile and nothing is too much trouble. There appears to be a high ratio of staff to residents. I am impressed with the quality of entertainment offered. The planned events usually happen! There is always something going on plus the outside entertainers have been excellent. There are always 2 choices for lunch and portions are good sized plus a glass of wine if wanted!
The building is welcoming, warm and clean. The manager is delightful, kind and supportive to the whole family.
Thank you all for your commitment and care.
Thank you for such kind words. It is a pleasure to care for her.
An absolutely fantastic all-round experience. All staff, housekeeping through to management, always professional and very welcoming. Mum's clothes, bedding and room always spotless. Plenty of activires going on and great visits from local nursery children, animals and musicians. End of life care was phenomenal, no requests were ever too much for the staff, and the care they delivered right up to the end of Mum's life was fantastic.
Thank you for your very kind words. It was pleasure to care for mum and she is highly missed
Any concerns have been listened to and taken seriously.
The home itself is warm, welcoming, spotlessly clean and well maintained.
Nursing staff are very professional as one would expect and carers and support staff very attentive and friendly.
I find it reassuring to know that the home mostly employs its own team of staff rather than relying on agency staff thereby ensuring there are always familiar faces around.
It is also reassuring to know that there is an open door policy for visitors. There is a regular and varied programme of weekly activities.
The Manager is very approachable and instils confidence.
Thank you very much for your kind words, it is very much appreaciated
The facilities are clean and well-maintained, and his room is kept tidy. Nurses treat him with dignity and respect, regularly engaging with him as he has full capacity. This means a lot to us, as he is a proud and private gentleman who has never experienced serious illness before.
When we visit, the staff are friendly and take time to update us on how he is doing. While none of us-including him-would choose for him to be in a nursing home, we feel reassured knowing Portland House provides excellent long-term care.
Thank you very much, your words are very much appreciated, it is a pleasure to care for dad
My sister was in the home for some years. The manager was always very kind, helpful and professional. Always there if needed. My sister was looked after by the staff with kindness, dignity and friendliness. This is a lovely home and the staff are amazing - hard working and caring. We were very grateful to them for the care.
Thank you for your very kind words, it was to care for her and she is very much missed
A heartfelt thank you to all at Portland House the their patience and commitment.
Thank you very much for your kind words, it was a pleasure to care for dad
As a family we could not be happier with the way our mum was cared for. Would highly recommend Portland House.
Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to care for mum
My mother let Portland due to her becoming increasingly ill with Alzheimer's. However, even though she was becoming extremely difficult to manage, the staff at Portland were superb. They really stepped up and took care of all her needs in the most difficult of circumstances. At the same time the management team were increasingly supportive in helping find a new nursing home for Mum that cared for her complex needs. They went well beyond what I expected, and I really can't thank them enough, they have been superb.
This is a lovely care home I would recommend for anyone , my mother had respite and is now full time here It is clean and staff are friendly it is beautifully furnished and food is very good my mother is happy here
Thank you very much for your kind words, it is a pleasure to care for mum
My grandad was put in portland for rest bite he got a bed very quickly, staff were friendly and welcoming. He had never been anywere before very independent man who didn't like change. The staff made him feel comfortable and was like a little family unit. Anything my grandad needed or wanted was no trouble. Cares, nurses, manager were also easy to speek too and got to know my granddad as a person not just a number. He sadly passed away 2 weeks later, but was made comfortable for his last days. Would definitely recommend short or long term stays here
Thank you for your kind words, it was a pleasure to care for grand dad
My father was on end of life palliative care and he was treated with empathy and respect at all times. Not only did the staff show compassion to him but also to my mother who continues to be a resident at Portland. They also supported myself and family during his care and passing and continue to do so.
Thank you for your kind words. We are always here for care and support
The home is spotlessly clean and always smelled fresh. Mum had her own spacious ensuite room, with a view onto the side garden with access through a patio door, ideal as she was mainly bedbound she was regularly taken to the tv/dayrooms to join in activities /entertainer. There is ample furniture for clothes and belongings which are washed regularly and put away The cleaning ladies do an excellent job of keeping it spotless, the care staff are attentive and interactive with the residents, The home has a variety of entertainment, which residents can go and see/join in if they want. The entertainment team are great at what they do ensuring that no one is left out. Highly trained nursing staff have a wonderful caring side and are at hand anytime day/night. The admin/ management make you feel part of the family the minute you walk in. Mum passed away at the end of January. I can honestly say we couldn't have wished for a more caring group of people to have around us at that time.
Thank you very much for the fabulous review and kind words. Mum and the whole family will be missed.
Caring open door to manager, staff are professional and caring to patients and family. Communication excellent, any problems picked up with patient's needs and dealt with quickly and efficiently ie doctor visits and family kept informed.
Thank you very much for your kind words, this is very much appreciated.
I had a wonderful two-week holiday. All the staff were very kind and caring.
Thank you very much for your kind review. It was a pleasure and we hope to have you back again soon.
