My mum was admitted to hospital with severe dehydration and was very poorly. Also, she has dementia. She went to Thurlaston on a discharge to assess for five weeks. The care she received was outstanding and turned Mum's life around. She was walking better, sleeping better - a totally different person and able to take part in activities during the day ie Bingo, quizzes and dominoes. All the staff made Mum feel very welcome and cared for and gave her a meaningful hug on departure. Thank you to everyone who helped Mum onto a better future.

When the time came for Mum to need full-time care, I felt happy leaving her in this home, with its lovely setting in the village.
The staff were very caring and kept me informed about her welfare.
Night staff were very patient with her, she was warm and comfortable.

The home is not too big and the lounge has a very homely feel to it.

I am a volunteer driver and such am unable to fill in all the boxes below but the resident I pick up says they should all be marked excellent!

The staff are all very pleasant and helpful. As my passenger is now in a wheelchair, there is always someone waiting to get the chair in and out of my car cheerfully! Considering putting my name down when my time comes!

I am writing this review as I feel that the staff and service providers at Thurlaston Meadows deserve recognition for the wonderful service that they provide. My brother and I were both sceptical about our father going into a care home and we had our reservations as to whether it was a good idea or not however when our father went into Thurlaston Meadows he was welcomed by all and treated with kindness and dignity in a warm clean friendly environment. The care staff should be recognised for their constant support they always tried to encourage our father to join in the many activities on offer many of which he enjoyed. Our father passed away in December and the staff continued to be helpful and support to us at a difficult time. I do not write reviews as a rule but in this instance, I am happy to do so.

My mother stayed at Thurlaston Meadows Care Home for 1 1/2 months after being hospitalised by a series of falls. We found the home to be clean, inviting and homely. I thought it seemed like a home rather than an institution, for example: friendly and welcoming. The staff are superb and could not help us enough. If I had to be critical I would have to mention the lift which is old and needs updating otherwise in our view Thurlaston Meadows is very good indeed.

Reply from Karla Embry, Home Manager at Thurlaston Meadows Care Home

Thank you for your review of our lovely home. We are pleased that your mother enjoyed her respite stay here with us. We will pass on your lovely comments to our staff team. We appreciate your feedback about the lift and whilst it is an older lift it is maintained and inspected on a regular basis. We do also have plans to improve the home and a replacement lift is included in these plans.

My father-in-law was at Thurlaston Meadows for Rehabilitation Care from September to December 2023. During his time there he made many friends amongst the kind and caring staff, and enjoyed the variety of activities laid on, from crafts to musical entertainment. He was particularly complimentary about the quality and variety of the food. He was an exacting man with full cognitive awareness and strong views so he would have quickly raised any issues, of which there were none. I must especially thank the home manager and all the staff for their generous and loving support to both him and the rest of the family on the sudden death of his son during his stay there. We could not have asked for better care during his final days.

My dad spent three months in Thurlaston Meadows and was very comfortable and happy there. Unfortunately, he was quite poorly towards the end of his stay so did not join in with many activities. He was looking forward to returning after his last hospital stay but was unable to do so as he passed away.

Visiting the home weekly to see an elderly lady who was reluctant to leave her own home. It was easy for her to adjust to the care package and support she received at Thurlaston Meadows. An amazing home from home. The staff are all dedicated professionals that give excellent care to the residents and families of loved ones who stay at Thurlaston. We as a family always felt welcomed, respected and at ease, knowing that our loved one was having amazing care when we left them. From the carers, catering team, cleaners, receptionists, maintenance and management all staff knew each person individually. It is one big happy family.

The care staff are excellent with my aunt who after a hospital visit was unable to live independently at home. At 94, she is well looked after and the care home provides lots of activities to keep the residents occupied and their brains stimulated. Whilst my aunt would prefer to be at home, she comments on how good the food is and how she enjoys having her chats with the carers.

Thank you, Yvonne, for your lovely review, here at Thurlaston we thrive to provide a wide range of activities which your aunt thoroughly enjoys. My mum has been a resident at Thurlaston Meadows Care Home for nearly two years. She has been extremely happy there - she does believe she works there, due to her dementia! She is treated with extreme respect, made to feel safe, she is well fed and very well looked after. We feel her care goes beyond just caring and we are always made to feel welcome and informed of any changes with the home or indeed with Mum.

Only my second opportunity to visit a dear friend at your excellent care home. The resident moved to a quiet area giving us privacy and the opportunity to chat away from other residents and activities going on. Staff popped over several times to make sure we were alright and an excellent welcome - cup of tea and biscuits for us all. Not able to rate all boxes on a short visit, but those I can will all be excellent.

I have been to the care home on some of the themed nights where they provide a three-course meal with entertainment. It's a wonderful experience and a great way to enjoy time with your loved ones. This place is amazing. Really cares for its residents. Goes over and above to make their experience a pleasurable one. Staff are very respectful, helpful and kind. Food is delicious and homemade. Any issues or worries are swiftly looked at and dealt with. Really feel like I am listened to, if there are any concerns which are rare. Residents have lots of interaction and entertainment laid on. They are comfortable and we now find it hard to get my mum out and about for the day as she is worried about missing out on things at the home. I would recommend and give 5 stars. Overall, top-notch. Look no further if you are looking for a quality home for your loved one. We cannot thank Thurlaston Meadows enough for the care our father enjoyed for nearly 18 months, all while enjoying the tranquil country setting. So many remarkable staff. The food is second to none and the most important was that Dad found friends and happiness. Dad went from not wanting to move there as he wanted to stay at home, to a 2-week stay after a fall and then one night back at his own home to ask if he could go back to Thurlaston - the next day he moved in and never looked back! Gave us such peace of mind, knowing he was being cared for by people with a genuine love for what they do. Thank you to everyone at Thurlaston Meadow, you are amazing.

Kathryn JohnsonJob Title:Team LeaderJoined: 2025

Kathryn began her journey in care at a young age as a Young Carer for her mum, supporting her with day-to-day tasks around the home. During secondary school, she completed her NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, which confirmed that a career in care was truly her calling.

At 16, Kathryn gained her first professional experience working weekends in a cattery. After three years, she felt ready to pursue her passion for care full time, bringing with her the empathy and understanding shaped by her own personal experiences. She started in domiciliary care as a Care Assistant and progressed to Senior Care Assistant shortly afterwards. Following the Covid pandemic, she transitioned into care home work, where she discovered a deep sense of fulfilment.

In 2025, Kathryn took the exciting step into becoming a Team Leader at Thurlaston Meadows. She is currently working towards her NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care to further develop her leadership skills and ensure she continues providing the highest standard of care to residents.
