My daughter moved into The Cedars and Larches Care Home over 5 years ago and during this time she has been cared for and treated with much kindness and dignity. The staff have been excellent giving me peace of mind knowing she is being cared for by such nice people.

The majority of staff are caring and patient with residents. There is a concern, however, that these are insufficient staff during some shifts which lead to some residents having to wait to be attended.
It also leads to residents being late getting up and on occasion, my mother has not had breakfast until 11:00 am and since she is diabetic, this is not good.

There is also a concern that items of clothing and personal items have gone missing. These are usually found after a lengthy search but since all her clothing has name tags, it shouldn't happen.

Firstly I would like to say how nice the carers are, always friendly, but not enough of them for the amount of needy and mostly elderly residents. They do not have the time to give the necessary care needed. The general standard is poor, rooms need updating, carpets are dirty and it smells awful.

I cannot thank the staff of Larches enough for how they have looked after my cousin. I don't think she has been this happy in her life. She has thrived in your care. She is always clean and smartly dressed, she loves having her hair done and her baths. At home, she wasn't eating properly or looking after herself. When I mentioned care homes she said she would take all her pills, when I mention this to her now she says, I didn't think it would be this lovely. I think that says it all.

My Mum has lived at The Larches for 9 years. Staff friendly. Mum's room is nice and decorated to a very high standard. Mum is safe and well looked after, has her hair done regularly. I am very happy with the standard of care at The Larches.

My Mother moved to this home straight from hospital for 'end of life' care. Luckily she seems quite well at the moment. I am amazed how much happier my Mother is since moving here. The staff are more receptive to her needs and have a lot of patience. The food is really good as are the portions. They have recently moved Mum into a bigger and better room which is situated along the main corridor so that she can be watched at more regular intervals. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Mum was originally in another residential home before being admitted to hospital.

I find the personal care given is excellent, all reasonable requests are met in as short a time as possible. Cleanliness and meals are of a very high standard, staff always find the time for anyone who is feeling down/lonely and confused a listening ear is always good therapy.

There is always a very warm welcome for all visitors greeted by name and encouraged to join in.

Review from Andrew F (Friend of Resident) published on 16 May 2018 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I visited a number of care homes in the area prior to selecting Cedars and Larches; this is far and away the best in the area in my view, covering all aspects from staffing to facilities. The staff are friendly, dedicated and demonstrate care in their treatment of residents across all types of illness and disability. This is qualified by the overall CQC assessment.

The staff have succeeded in establishing a regime in which my stepmother - a dementia sufferer - has responded to and which has resulted in an improved personal appearance, a more calm and relaxed attitude and one where she is largely untroubled by the day to day aspects of living. I think the size of the home is also a significant factor as staff have the time to get to know people, their likes and dislikes, and react accordingly.

My mother-in-law has just come to live at The Cedars and Larches Care Home two days ago. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Her room is very pleasant and she has brought her own television to watch. She is enjoying the food and we feel sure that after being here a while longer she will settle in just fine. Something to look forward to one of the carers is taking on a little trip soon to the local shops. She hasn't tried the activities yet!

I have stayed in The Cedars in Ilkeston for nearly a year. My wife lives locally so it is good for her to visit. I have enjoyed games and dominoes today in the lounge. The food is excellent, as I was a chef myself years ago. Activity staff helped me complete this, however, I can sign my name.

It's hard to know whether you've chosen a good home for a loved one that needs the care that you can't provide. Living away I chose remotely. My Father settled in, was contented and liked his room. What struck me was how caring all the staff were. My Father had health issues and I was very impressed at how on the ball the nursing staff were liaising with Health Professionals straight away, always keeping us informed. We all lived in different parts of the Country.
In my dear Fathers last week we visited him every day. The staff were so attentive to his needs. Showed respect and always spoke to him, told him they either needed to turn him or give him medication. Looking after us too, bringing teas and coffee.

I can't thank this caring home enough for all they did and going that extra mile. The staff make the home a "home" for our parents, Aunties, Uncles and Grandparents. Peace of mind that you've chosen the right place is what matters and carries you forward.

My husband moved to The Larches on 7/7/16 after escaping from another home in which he was extremely unhappy and unsettled. Since his move, he has "turned the corner" and looks happier and healthier. The carers are very kind, experienced, pleasant and hard-working.

The nurses are extremely good and communicate with each other. I like the facility of a nurse practitioner. My husband has not yet engaged in many activities but there are many opportunities here for the future.

My friend has been in The Cedars and Larches Care Home for about 6 years, we have been school friends and known each other for 75 years. I visit about 4 times per week. My friend is vegetarian and her choice of meals are good. She enjoys the garden in the summer, she is comfortable, clean and well cared for in my opinion.

My friend likes to see the activities in the lounge even though she may not be able to join in always, she likes sensory activities - her needs are met.

Overall facilities, food, staff etc are satisfactory. With an increase of 10% in my costs is extravagant and not called for!
