I needed to move my elderly sister, who suffers from dementia, up from a nursing home in London to a nursing home near myself in Derby.
Finding a nursing home that is registered and properly caters for dementia is not an easy process.
I, therefore, contacted 57 homes in a 20-mile radius of Derby and
visited 15.
Subsequently, I drew up a list from the best to the worst [ and believe me some were not good ] and Maple Leaf House came out as the best.
Because their standards are so high there was obviously a waiting list, but I was prepared to wait.
Some weeks later they contacted me and my sister is now a resident.
Thankfully I waited - the staff are wonderful and caring, the food is great and the accommodation is new build and fantastic, and my sister now feels very much at home.
She has never been the easiest person to please but she now never really complains at all - it's taking some getting used to!
I would seriously recommend Maple Leaf House to anyone - and already have.

Maple Leaf is a truly excellent home (and I have looked at lots). The manager is friendly, approachable, visible, highly professional and extremely pro-active at looking after and inspiring her team to look after my fathers challenging needs. The staff are all friendly, caring and interested in knowing
my father and his likes and dislikes. The layout of the home is perfect with the gardens always accessible to the residents and visitors. Visitors are made to feel welcome and valued. The food is all home cooked and beautifully presented. If dad doesn't fancy what is on the menu, they will make him his favourite sandwich. A range of snacks are always available throughout the day and night, if required. The rooms are all light and bright, all en-suite, of 4* hotel standard and kept spotlessly clean, with views of the courtyard or lawned garden. With the cafe area, 3 lounges, reminiscence room and sensory room there is always somewhere to sit. We are truly lucky to have found this home.

Maple Leaf House is a very special place, where my mum receives excellent care from a dedicated and caring team of staff. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they do their utmost to meet her individual and changing needs. I always feel welcome at Maple Leaf House and feel that I am a partner in
the care of my mum. I am kept well informed of her well-being and health care.
The environment is calm and relaxing. Staff go about their work in a quietly confident manner. The rooms are all clean and well maintained. Every effort is made to keep Mum safe and comfortable.
There is a good choice of food at meal times and if Mum doesn’t fancy a meal then snacks and light meals are available.
There are a range of activities for Mum to join in or to watch. Mum is able to have her hair done each week by a visiting hairdresser.
My family and I feel that we are lucky to have found such a good placement for Mum, where she is treated with respect and care.

Maple Leaf House is, without doubt, an exceptional home. Every aspect of patient care is catered for. The patient centred care approach is reviewed regularly and relatives have active engagement in the decision-making process. I have been delighted with the home design, the nursing team, it's caring
staff and the varied and often unsung support staff. The range of entertainment and therapy services provided for residents is unrivalled.
I would not hesitate to recommend the home to anyone; especially those requiring EMI specialist nursing care. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do and have done over the last two years for mammy. Your compassion, kindness and professionalism are appreciated at all times. God bless you all.

I looked at lots of homes in the area and this was the only home I would have allowed my mum to go into.
The home is clean, has beautiful en-suite rooms, and staff who are friendly and will do anything for residents. This I believe is down to excellent management and the manager is excellent at her
job and on the ball with her staff, who treat residents as their family.


Mum has the freedom to walk anywhere and they have a lovely garden.
Lots of activities are organised and they have Christmas and summer fairs.
Also a fantastic monthly newsletter and family meetings to obtain feedback on how they are doing or what may need addressing to improve things.


The food is excellent and the staff are always friendly and smiling as you walk around the place.
I know she is completely safe and well looked after do not ever worry once she is there.
Mum goes for day care and respite at the moment but would not hesitate for her to be there full time. I know the care is superb.


I would live here!

From the moment you step into Maple Leaf House, you are made to feel very welcome. In time it feels like another part of your family as you get to know all the staff, patients and their families. The staff are very friendly and approachable if you have any questions or concerns. Any issues raised with
management are dealt with quickly and efficiently. The nursing staff keep you well informed of changes in your family members health. No one wants to put their loved ones in a home but the warm friendly welcome we received and the support we had settling dad in at a very stressful and emotional time really helped to put our minds at ease that we had made the right decision. I would recommend getting involved in some of the activities that take place at Maple Leaf to see the benefit it has on some of the residents. There is always something happening at Maple Leaf to engage the residents with if they wish to. A lovely home that I happily recommend to others. Thank you for all you do.

Our Mum has been a resident in Maple Leaf House since March 2013.
I cannot praise the Manager and Staff highly enough; these ladies and gentlemen are living angels, who provide exceptional care to all the residents.
Working with dementia patients is an extremely challenging vocation however ALL
the staff greet the residents, family and friends with a cheerful smile and a kind word
I have experienced a variety of care homes and I know that Maple Leaf is absolutely exceptional. From the design of the building, to the memory boxes outside each bedroom, the sensory room, the varied entertainment programme, home cooked food, beautiful safe garden and amazing staff, this home is a safe haven.
Methodist Homes have clearly listened to feedback to ensure their homes offer the best support to the resident and their families.
Losing a family member to dementia is heart-breaking, you are mourning the living; Maple Leaf House provides kind compassion and devoted care to all during this difficult time.

This care home is a true home for my mother, She been there 2 years can't praise the staff enough for looking after all her wellbeing needs. She is always clean and tidy having hair and nails done wearing necklaces and bracelets. Staff always address any issues sensitively. We feel welcome at my mother's
home anytime of the day/evening which helps with work and young family. Staff always talk to our son as it's important grandchildren feel comfortable visiting. Staff phone me regarding mother seeing a doctor and keep me updated. When I have visited staff have told me when mum has joined in activities and thanks to the many photos they take put up around the home and monthly newsletter sent out you can see yourself what your loved one has been taking part in when you are unable to be there and that this is a well run caring home. It's nice to go look for mum as she can be sat in any area of the home, The layout of the home is well done, there are areas where doors to outside gardens can be left open.

The highest praise to the team at Maple Leaf House, Ripley. All the staff are very caring, helpful and respectful. The team has a very good leader in the Manager. It is a happy home with a big happy family. Nothing is too much trouble and staff are friendly, welcoming and approachable.
Our Dad
is a Dementia and Parkinson's sufferer and moved into MLH in May 15. It was not his choice to leave his house and go into care, but despite that he settled in well and is clearly loved and cared for. He is kept clean and tidy and is very well fed, while most importantly, being kept safe.
Our Dad is Indiana Jones with Dementia, full of adventure and keen to have fun and live life to the full and beyond, but sadly with failing body and mind that became full of mishaps and many accidents.
Dad does not just sit and vegetate, but is helped and encouraged to participates in the many regular activities at MLH.
Other homes could learn a lot from this home.

Maple Leaf House is nothing short of an amazing care home. Having visited over 20 different care homes with my sister in an effort to find a new care home for our mother, finding Maple Leaf House was the answer to all our prayers. The standard of every aspect of this care home is of the highest level,
and is the standard by which all care homes should be measured. The manager leads by example and ensures that every member of staff performs their duties to the highest level. The staff themselves are all loving, caring people who look after the residents as if they were their own relatives, and go out of their way to provide care that is a joy to behold. The home itself is extremely well designed for people with dementia. It is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The rooms are all spacious, light, airy and en-suite. The secure central garden is safe, well maintained and well stocked with flowers and shrubs. Everything about Maple Leaf House from A to Z is beyond belief.

My mother has been living in Maple Leaf House for nearly five years, in that time she has received the best care I could have wished for. The home is designed to make life with dementia the most comfortable it can possible be and tailor made activities are accessible daily. The home is well run, clean
and tidy, meals are varied and special diets catered for. When choosing my mum's new home I visited the premises, unannounced, at various time of the day and was very impressed, especially with the morning visit when the only fragrance present was that of bubble bath and perfume! Nearly five years on and the home still is run to the same top class standards and I have never had cause to complain. It is never an easy decision choosing a new home for your loved one, but finding Maple Leaf made things a lot easier.

Maple Leaf provided outstanding care for mum. Staff at all levels were professional and dedicated.


The design of the building is superb with an indoor walkway/corridor surrounding a well maintained garden. Three lounges, quiet sensory and reminiscence rooms together with an excellent activities

programme means all resident's needs are catered for.


My brother and I are so grateful to all staff for their care of our mum

My mother has just passed away after being a resident at Maple Leaf House for over 2 years. She was really happy and comfortable there.The holistic care is excellent and the staff are very loving and always demonstrate a high standard of respect and dignity towards the residents. The ambiance is very
pleasant and there is always a welcoming, happy atmosphere. It was a great comfort to us to know that Mum was being cared for in such a well managed, caring Nursing Home.

Since the 1st day of entering Maple Leaf Mum has been happy and very well looked after, her care cannot be faulted. The staff are very kind and well trained and are continually updated, they are really good with mum and 'her' Alzheimer's. The home is clean, spacious, light and welcoming, the rooms are
comfortable, with on suit facilities and personal touches can be added to the rooms and there are enclosed gardens for the residents to sit or wander in. Plenty of food is always available and entertainment well organised. This home is a credit to it's manager and every one of her staff.
