The manager makes himself known to residents and this is well received by them. Information about my mother's well-being is always communicated as soon as I arrive. This shows that they are observant and they care. Rooms/communal areas are kept clean. Personal clothing and bedding are also kept clean
and fresh. The dining arrangements are flexible to suit residents needs which can vary. Unfortunately The Vale has had difficulty recruiting an Events Co-ordinator over several months so I cannot review this element. Perhaps this reflects the fact that the post is part time and has a requirement to drive the mini bus limiting the number of candidates.

I love the care and attention my mother receives from the staff and carers here. The best home I viewed for my mum any problems the manager sorts out quickly. There are some exceptional carers (day and night) that will do anything for you without any moaning. I would recommend this home to anyone looking
for a family member. The home is clean and the food is fantastic.

Always find the staff helpful, will listen to any concerns, nothing is too much trouble for them. Very kind to residents. The home is very clean, and stayed to have meals with our cousin and find them very delicious.

An excellent facility as noted below. No complaints at all.
Suggestion: get rid of the electronic servey machine. The software is not user friendly, out of date technology and complete waste of time. People must become very frustrated with it and give up (as I did). Scrap this system.
Reply from Richard Spalding, Home Manager at The Vale Care Home

Thank you for your review - we’re pleased to read how happy you are with the service at The Vale and are delighted to see you would recommend the home. We are sorry to see your comments about our new feedback system. We are keen to provide people who use our services with as many different ways as possible to give their feedback, comments and suggestions - many people have welcomed this service as a new method to do this, but we accept that this is not necessarily for everyone. We’ve received over 30,000 pieces of feedback from residents, relatives and visiting professionals across all Four Seasons Health Care homes over the past 10 months so it is a programme we intend to continue using. It helps us to continually improve the services our residents want. We are always looking at ways to improve how the system works so I’d be keen to understand your frustrations in more detail. I will be in touch to discuss further.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.379)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.379) out of 10 for The Vale Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.254 for The Vale Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.254
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Vale Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.625
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
